They are the productive regions.

O dear me! so it is the responsibility of igbo importers to tell vessel were to Beth .free education and quota system is more dangerous than Boko Haram FGN directly incapacitated Onne Port by investing $300 million dollars on the port. Lolz Please tell me you have a functioning brain or your batteries are just low. |

And
2. A man approaches you walking on the street a calls you a hypocrite. You have anything to share at all? |

If u r talking about Igbo importers patronising Onne.
Dats the point of this thread. government need to probe Onne port..and other ports in d south south. Government has played their part by providing a port. Tell the importers to use the port. Kapish |

This thread is above Nairaland discussions because of recent invasion of the forum by idle and non-scholarly minded people.
There are scholarly and intensive research works already concluded that can give you insight on this subject.
Search for them, there are many uncovered facts you will learn and some, you can't bear depending on your orientation. This is like belching hot air. If you have any meaningful contribution to the subject then table it. |

beats me. back to back. When it comes to business profitability, sentiments are not involved. Money and market talks, bullshit walks. Anybody that goes against the grain is just charitable at best. Government has built and invested in the ports and it's time for the market to create a demand for it's use. All the tribal sentiments is just unnecessary cry |

RealityShot: They can't manufacture fast boats can they(militants)? So who gave them the boats?
So these militants can not be stopped to cut costs and improve general public life in the country? The same way it is done at lagos? And you expect a serious response? Really? You can go asks the militants about their procurement contracts and practices. When the last government kept enabling them and spoon feeding them even to the point of giving them security contracts. What did you think they were doing? You give people easy money and easy access to money and do you think they'll sit still when you shut it down? |
Politics › Re: Onne Sea Port by kayfra: 4:58pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
RealityShot: Like the FBI forensic accountants always say... "follow the money"
So the question is: who will benefit the most if the onne port stays shut/non fully functional?
Lol... So who is really causing the "insecurity"? It's the cost of militancy and general unruly behavior. Those same people have made the cost of producing oil as high as $28 a barrel when actual cost should be like $12-15 a barrel. Nigeria now has to start shutting down oil fields in the interlands since it's no longer worth lifting and selling at a loss. If the oil was located in the SW in that quantity and we maintained our relative peaceful nature, it would have been a different story. The militants also ruin the viability of Calabar as a seaport. It's just unfortunate for the peaceful Ibibios, Afangs and other tribes in Akwa Ibom and Cross River area. |
Politics › Re: Onne Sea Port by kayfra: 4:43pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
Super1Star: Yes, that is while Govt created Onne, Warri, Calabar and Koko.
Govt cannot force importers to use a particular port. The onus lies on the importers themselves. If the Igbos are truly the power house in importation as they used to claim, they can muster their strength to direct ships to Onne, except their level of importation is worthless.
Perhaps, this has shown that their importation is inconsequential to the economy of Nigeria, except proven otherwise. Their imports are consequential but the economic power is in the SW. Why would a ship berth in Onne when it will only have a few containers destined for that area and then add the insecurity to the mix which Jacks up insurance cost for both the vessel owners and the shippers. |

asha80: I wonder if you are trying to be funny or tribal with some of your comments..onne is rivers state ss and not se...where are the more profitable regions? Don't have your panties in a bunch, I am using cardinal directions here. A viable PH port is closer to the commercial centers in that area of the country. |
Politics › Re: Onne Sea Port by kayfra: 4:23pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
Government has really tried to make this a viable port in the south east region but the commerce just isn't there. It's useful for the oil and gas industry and maybe it will pickup if investors build refineries in that region. How much more can they waste before investing in more profitable regions... "Nigeria has invested heavily in the development of Onne Port, upgrading both the Federal Lighter Terminal and the Federal Ocean Terminal and continues to improve quayside facilities, communication links and other services. At the same time the Private Sector has been heavily investing in the Free Zone. Over $300 million has been invested to-date." http://www.onnefreezone.com |

Yorubas have a complex problem. I remember when GEJ was asked to probe OBJ on the Halliburton issue... Most Yorubas said that GEJ should not try it as he GEJ should not bit the finger that fed him, as ObJ picked him from nowhere and made him VP and president. I don't know why our SW brothers are so treacherous... That's false. Yorubas that didn't support OBJ and were kept off important positions would now fight for OBJ! Ridiculous assertions |

warripekin: One thing I love about igbos is there determining spirit to excel. My grand father once marvelled att there abilities. For instance, after the civil war, a lot of came to warri with nothing. Usually they will come in twos or three to one room apart and survive mostly through minial Jobs like night soil men, obioma, and so on. Gradually they raised money and went into trade. Time was in warri, when ever u want to buy anything cloths, u go to Igbo market apart from kingsway . they have a knack for controlling any kind of business from spare parts to building materials, to electrical etc. If u come to macdemott road in the time past, theirs no kind of oil and gas equipments u don't see them selling. From having nothing after the war, a lot of them prospered and became millionaires. The likes of bonsue, popular, chumatec, donasulu, charlesco etc all came with nothing but all ended up as multimillionaires.many from living in room apart started buying lands and moving into their own apartments. In most places I have met Igbos, its almost the same story. From, kano,Kaduna, jos, Lagos, abuja, angola, south Africa to China its the same story. I met an Igbo man in lekki Lagos who told me the drug business is over 30 billion USD a year business and the their cartel controls over 5 billion USD of it. The info I got from him is not the kind of stuff one presents here. I was in china in 2010 for business and I was shocked to discover Igbo are building factories in China. From electronics to apparels. I met one ifeanyi guy that owns a candle factory in China and he supplies candle world over. His workers run shift night and day. In angola , apart from Nigerian expertrate that work for the oil majors, I met the Igbo man on ground and they are already occupying business space there. They have spread all over Africa and they are doing great. I believe other Nigerians have a lot to learn from these guys that's if pride will let us. The can smell opportunities a million miles away. "I met an Igbo man in lekki Lagos who told me the drug business is over 30 billion USD a year business and the their cartel controls over 5 billion USD of it. " The country has failed us all. |
