Enugu State. My state. My home. Igboland. My fatherland. It was Peter Obi who buried APC in Igboland when he claimed that Fashola deported Igbos. He went on air, sensationalized it. Good job. Igbo youths lapped on it. Jonathan and PDP were all smiles and Obi was hailed for a job well done. He quickly joined the party on leaving office as was planned out. APGA, the alleged Igbo party was dumped and left to crumble. Ojukwu had died. The new Igbo party was PDP. The plan was going well. Jonathan would win election and our brothers would continue chopping on our behalf.

The Grand plan was for 2017. Oil blocks allocations would expire in 2017 and there would be fresh allocations. Boys were positioning themselves for the greatest cake. Dasuki released 500M to Jim for igbo elders. They did a perfect job. In churches Buhari was branded antichrist and antichristians whose ambitions were to islamize the east and persecute Christians. Prayer points were raised and brethren fasted against his emergence . Jonathan was sent by God and only his emergence would save the church. Brethren spoke in tongue and prophesied. Anyone who ever prophesied anything contrary to Jonathan winning was branded antichrist and anti Igbo. Jonathan was igbo, our brother. Ndi Hausa hate us so much. Buhari wrote Ohaneze severally to pay them a visit. No one as much as acknowledged his letter not to talk of inviting him. What's the point? Our son is running and he's gonna win anyways. APC was outcast and taboo in the land. At the election the elders dutifully allocated 500,000 votes to Jonathan, maybe at 1000naira per vote. And 15,000 votes to Buhari. This was igbo project remember. By 2017 igbo sons would own oil blocks on our behalf.

All seemed to be going well. Except that men without ears didn't think that God had the final say. Suddenly, like the great titanic, everything went wrong! Our brother didn't win after all! Wow. What next? They started shouting persecution. Ana emegbu ndi igbo. Can't y'all see his appointment? I told you! We need Biafra! We never really wanted Nigeria. We only managed to take part in the election. We want Biafra! Our brothers in the niger delter will join us and we will get Biafra. Let's just own all the oil blocks at once. Again things didn't go as expected. Wike first threw the first stone. He warned against any Biafra rubbish. One after the other, our so called brothers, denied us again. They ain't part of any Biafra business. Wow. I thought we fought for this people? We gave Jonathan our all. We actually threw away igbo ambitions for these people? Wow. This is happening again. They did it in old Biafra. Now again. Na wao. What next? And buhari is arresting people up and down. Nwobodo has been named. Who next? Uche Ekwunife has been sacked at the court. Na wao. Wahala de o. Uche, with the endorsement of Peter Obi, that same Peter has finally joined that same APC, the anti Igbo Islamic party. She has to go back to Senate. Tony Nwoye is set to join. But that's not the main gist. Our father, Senator Jim Nwobo, first executive governor of old Anambra state, the godfather of enugu state, founding member and the biggest chieftain of PDP, a member of the yam eating Dasuki committee of eminent Nigerians, yesterday, in company of another former enugu Senator, walked into stakeholders meeting of the APC in Enugu and declared loyalty. He has joined the "Islamic" party.

Finally. Who's the fool here? Igbo youths! Y'all put your businesses on the line. You were ready to go to war in lagos. You risked your families and livelihood for these men. They lied to you and you believed them. They now use you the way northern elders use their youths. They call you out at will and endanger your lives. They tell you it's because of the igbo. Did they do our roads? Nope. Did they provide infrastructure? Did they create more jobs to employ our teeming qualified graduates? Did they improve our schools? They did nothing. They don't have our interests at heart. It's always all about their pockets. As old as elder Jim is, he still decamps up and down. Men without ears, men without shame. Yet we defend them. We protect them with our lives. Why brothers, why. See the western youths calling out almighty Olu Falae. See the northern youths calling out the princely Dasuki. But we? No way! These men are eating on our behalf, we must attack anyone who calls their name. In fact, we shall adopt any other accused person as ours and defend him no matter how he insulted the igbo in the past. FFK is now our son. Who done this to us? Are we cursed or are we the cause?

I repeat, the real enemies of Igboland are our political leaders at present. Let us sack the enemies at home. We igbos are blessed with intellectuals, why do we let charlatans lead us? 2019 is around the corner. Now is the time to start. My name is mcginger ibeneme, I just wanna bare my mind.-Mcginger Ibeneme

PoliticsRe: Buhari's Economic Policies disproportionately affecting Igbos? - Cramjones by kayfra:
cramjones:
Many people have been saying that Buhari means well with his economic policies including my humble self, however, haven discussed with many people and studying who are affected the most, I am convinced to say that whilst Buhari's economic policies affect all Nigerians, the group it affects the most in a disportionate manner are the Igbos. When you examine most of these policies you would think that Igbos are specifically being targeted on all fronts. Let us examine the facts one after the other.

1. According to Vanguard news today, it was stated that Buhari's government have moved Lagos clearing house for imports to Kano. We all know that almost half of Lagos are occupied by Igbos. Igbo business men around the country have their networks in Lagos, and all they have known for many years is clearing their goods in Lagos. Moving it to Kano only adds to their cost without a concomitant value. Does it affect all business men, including hausas? Yes of course, but we all know that at least 70% of imports in Nigeria are carried out by Igbo business men all over Nigeria. This is NOT a good policy in my opinion it creates bad blood for the average Igbo business man, and make life even tougher for them.

(Link here http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/igbo-traders-bemoan-buharis-economic-policies-harsh-business-environment/)

2. The dollar policy has also disproportionately affected Igbos. Most Igbos have had to close business, because they cannot even find the dollar to pay for their imported goods. Worse still businessess that have millions of USD turn over, are prevented by the banks to collect their money, with the bank claiming they do not have dollar. This essentially grinds businesses and further makes the economy slip into oblivion. Does this policy affect other non-Igbo importers? Ofcourse yes, but given that Igbos are the engine of all of our imports in Nigeria, we can safely say that they are disproportionately affected.

3. Two days ago the APC government of Ambode, who in my opinion has been a confused governor, unable to just keep up with what Fashola has done, ordered that Oshodi market be destroyed. This is one of the largest market places in Nigeria and West Africa. Is it a bad policy to destroy Oshodi market for developmental reasons? Absolutely not, depending on its intent. However, what is bad policy, is when you do not give any notice, no alternatives, and then destroy peoples business that took many years to build, throwing thousands off their employment, and making many more people jobless. This is barbaric to say the least. Which group of people dominate Oshodi market? Igbos ofcourse. By many accounts, Igbos make up 85 - 90% of the traders in Oshodi. Was it a way of telling the Igbos that they are not needed in Lagos? Who inspired Ambode to take such actions?

I won't go further than this, but one thing is clear, PMB would have to thread carefully, or else what he thinks he is trying to make better, would only make the country worse. We do not need another civil war, policies like this only make Nigeria more polarized and ungovernable.

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

You are trying to whip up unnecessary ethnic sentiments or your knowledge of macroeconomics and government is weak.

The forex policy which is set by a constitutionally autonomous CBN, led by an Igbo man, is meant to address our short supply of dollars which has dwindled with the crash of oil, the pulling out of forex by investors and pulling out of forex by corrupt PDP government that dollarized the economy and syphoned what they could. Unless the naira is devalued, we can't continue to import frivolous goods from China that can be manufactured at home. Everybody importing such goods are affected and they should block our borders to prevent illegal imports. If we don't fix our manufacturin then we are doomed as a country.
There is something called balance of trade and we don't want to be at deficit and end up wasting our limited dollar reserves defending importation of chicken and toothpick!

Please show me a policy document that says you have to clear your goods in Kano. Just one policy document.

About the market issue, it's simple. They were warned and they made alternative provision for them. If you won't accept it then relocate elsewhere.

Stoking ethnic sentiments is a huge sign of a complex. It's rather unbecoming aND an insult to educated igbo people.

Thank goodness we still have folks with sound macroeconomic understanding.

The president needs to steer clear of directly interfering with monetary policies. He should focus on getting his cabinet to come up with appropriate fiscal policies that covers Agriculture, Solid Minerals, Industries, Trade, etc.
---
This government communication strategy is so out of sync. The government should leverage the goodwill it enjoys by effectively engaging with citizens about the direction of the government and the whole country.

This is 2016 not 1980. This days, Capital move with the speed of light. Once there is uncertainty, investors immediately move to the next best destination.
I accused Buhari as a visionless leader on facebook 4 months ago and I was attacked. We have no clear fiscal policy and above all, we don't have an economic messenger and crusader that will lift consumer confidence which in turn, will encourage spending and investments.

All these things are interconnected. You just can't shout corruption and corruption every single day. Did we elect the IG of Police or an attorney general? We elected a president and part of his job is to articulate and communicate a fiscal policy that can be dumbed down into an elevator speech!

People always bring up this 'tribalism' issue whenever Igbos talk about investing at home.

So investing in one's region to improve the place economically and infrastructurally as well as to provide employment is being tribalistic?

Last I checked, I wasn't able to find non-easterners who invested heavily in Igboland the way Igbos have done everywhere.
If the market is conducive, indigenes and foreigners alike would invest. Business isn't an altruistic venture, that's called charity.

You are guilty of what you blame your business people of doing if you take employment in Lagos, Abuja, Kano etc. Why don't you look for a job at home and contribute in igboland? Works both ways. You are looking after yourself and so is the business man!
PoliticsRe: CBN FX Policy Counterproductive To The Larger Economy by kayfra: 2:59pm On Jan 04, 2016
Hopefully, Keynesian economics will work when the government borrows forex and starts spending on capital projects. With that and the measures enunciated in this thread, we'll have some hope. But if we only rely on government spending while stifling commerce, then all we have is a widening deficit gap with no growth in real GDP. Deficit is not a big deal if real GDP grows.

God help us.
PoliticsRe: CBN FX Policy Counterproductive To The Larger Economy by kayfra: 2:15pm On Jan 04, 2016
This is a great thread.

I don't agree with running parallel exchange rates, all that it will do is encourage bankers to connive with FX dealers and it will defeat the purpose.I believe it's time we acknowledge the realities of diminshed revenues in our mono product economy. This is how I'll propose to change the existing monetary policy:

1. Devalue the naira to something more realistic and closer to the parallel market. Let it float with given limits maybe plus or minus 20 naira
2. Lower interest rates to reinflate the economy so more money is available and cheap to lend. Yes. Inflation will increase but consumers will have more money to spend.
3. Place outright bans on any product that can be sourced locally and review the policy on a product by product basis if it's becoming scarce. A tiered approach to enforce the bans should be considered, so stuff like toothpick, tomato puree, chicken etc can be Class A. Products that deserve total bans and Class C may just be tariffs
4. Place transaction limits on cards for personal use and be more liberal with business cards. Banks should come out with cards for Business vs. Personal cards. Improves tracking and taxable income
5. They know the politicians and contractors that benefitted from the dollarization of our economy. So a blanket ban is shortsighted. Remove the draconian policy of limiting inflows and outflows of dollars into domiciled accounts and track the aforementioned people.
6. Any import of farm or processing equipment that encourages exports should be subsidised and the proof of receipt of such should be at the custom. This should be done using rebates to avoid people getting subsidies and channeling the money for alternative use.
7. Redesign the monies collected via Remita, so that it spends more time at the banks which fRees up cash for lending and trade. CBN can track those using some clearing mechanism.

Without doing something to our monetary policies, the economy will crash before the end of second quarter. They are killing the economy the more this ill-advised policy continues.

And outside of monetary policy, Buhari and his goons needs to communicate an economic vision that brings about everything. Give it targets, goals and milestones. Without a vision and an enabling environment, Nigeria is doomed to fail.

Since the political journey of Nigeria began it's a well known fact that Yorubas and Hausa/Fulani have always voted along tribal lines but not so with the Igbos. # Fact

At those times Igbos built ties, formed alliances and voted for Northerners (Shagari - 1979, Yaradua - 2007), Yorubas (Abiola - 1993, Obj 2x - 1999 & 2003) and Ijaw (GEJ - 2007) to enable them get the presidency even at the expense of Igbo men. That's an indisputable fact!

Yorubas had the presidency for over 11years with Obj ruling in the democratic dispensation 1999 to 2007 (8 years without breakage)
Except Yorubas barely voted OBJ the second time and had no choice but to vote a yoruba in 1999.
