Another thing that got me thinking. During the Nigerian civil war, the SE was fighting for secession and millions of people got killed. Why did the UN not use that opportunity to intervene and call a referendum despite the genocide?
PoliticsContrast World Reaction To Recent Events In Nigeria (shiite And Biafra) by kayfra(op): 9:14pm On Jan 01, 2016
Basically analyzing world reaction to two major protests in Nigeria.

A decent amount of Shiite muslims got killed up North after an unruly and violent crowd attacked an army convoy and we had statements from world leaders and riots in a lot of countries, including considerable coverage on cable news abroad and the chatter is still ongoing as we speak. On the other hand, the largely peaceful protests in the SE saw 8-9 people get killed and not any word from any world body or agency.

Why the mixed reaction and what does it betray? After all, these are incidents in the same country. The world completely ignores one and reacts to the other.

People,

what's the big deal if President Buhari implements the recommendations of the last CONFAB as a way to try to pull the rug off the feet of Nnamdi Kanu?

Only Real Politics and Diplomacy were successful in other countries where issues like secessionist groups or dissenters appeared and were resolved for the good of the country. Not courts or imprisonment or shooting of protesters.
Kanu is not important enough. How many people are registered with IPOB? What's their support base? None essential youths.

We all want the confab to be implemented, so rather than focus on a non entity like Kanu. It should be turned to a bigger conversation like more regional control. Something SW, SS and SE wants.

You simply trivialize the conversation by inserting Kanu. Fact.

PoliticsRe: Southwest Myopia: A Case Of The Frog In Water. by kayfra: 11:29am On Jan 01, 2016
BishopMagic:
Any of you who had the privilege of a descent secondary school education will understand the "frog in water" theory.

The Frog in water theory stems from the lab experiments done in biological classes to show how cold blooded reptiles depend on their surroundings for warmth.

It basically involves two stages;

The first stage involves putting the frog in a beaker of hot water. Naturally the frog jumps out of the beaker due to the hot temperatures.

The second stage involves placing the frog in a beaker of cold water and slowly heating it up on a Bunsen burner. Remarkably the frog just sits there oblivious of what is going on. It will continue in this state of oblivion until it dies from the steaming water.

Now, when we apply this frog in water theory in our political landscape I see only parallels with the SW political class and general populace who never see beyond their noses.

It usually takes sweeping and drastic changes for the SW electorate to react just like the frog when placed in hot water but the SW is usually oblivious to slow and latent changes.

For how can we reconcile how the SW will suddenly again root for Buhari after 3 decades? The last time Buhari arrived on the political scene, he was supported heavily in the SW because at that time Shagari's govt was so vilified by the SW press that any "change" no matter how undemocratic or unconstitutional was welcomed.

Fast forward to present day and we can see how a well oiled propaganda machinery steered the SW voting block back to buhari.

They were made to believe that Buhari has since repented (this is the cold water stage) and can not act despotically in a democratic setting.

But since Buhari was sworn in he has never even bothered to tour the SW and show his gratitude for the enormous and crucial support they lent him. It is obvious that the SW press and media consultants were able to re-brand an old duara goat like Buhari to appear as a docile sheep.

Now that Buhari is slowly showing the SW that a despot at 40 is a despot for life they still cling stubbornly to the change rhetoric and Buhari's mythical puritan disposition.

The SW may never know they have entered one chance just like our frog sitting in the beaker of lukewarm water.

PoliticsRe: Kanu's "Apology" Couldn't Have Been True by kayfra:
Anticabal:
Some days ago reputable newsmedia like the punch newspaper came out with kanu's apology stories, it was what anti-Biafrans wanted to hear, but the story was later deflated by other reputable media like Thisday and Vanguard with kanu's lawyer brother and father denying that no such apology was made, much to the chagrin of the anti-Biafrans who were already throwing victory parties over kanu's apology.

Biafrans claim that DSS desperately want to create an apology (where there is none) and by a extention a moral victory to delegitimize and compromise the Biafra movement and also make kanu look like an unprincipled wimp.

Recent development from sahara reporters shows some handwritten letters allegedly written by kanu as an apology to Buhari and Nigeria but skeptics who have followed DSS desperation believe that;

1.) Anybody in the DSS can write a letter with a letterhead paper, sign and send to media houses as a 'proof' of kanu's compromise. Even frivolous confessions and submission can be extracted under duress by DSS.

2.) If they really want skeptics to believe that kanu apologized, they should call a press conference and get Kanu to apologize PUBLICLY as they did in Jonathan's aide (Gordon obua) case to debunk his purported death in dss custody. This will deliver the much needed blow to the morale of IPOB and other pro-Biafrans, it will also make any future agitation for Biafra baseless.

I wish the DSS Godspeed as they call the press conference to get Kanu apologize publicly. Thank you all for reading.
This is called moving the goal post.

Apologies or none. The man will answer for his charges.

for you to be my leader in a war in wish I may be called upon to lay the ultimate sacrifice I must know the following.

1.Your pedigree. overnight crusaders is a no no.
2. You must be temprate. If you are inhuman to your enemies by seeing them as less than humans you will definite abuse power over your own friends and kindred.
3. You must have plans from A-Z.
4. You must have the fear of God.
5. You must be prepared to sacrifice your life and those of your comrades only when it is required to prevent CLEAR and PRESENT DANGER threatening the existence of your country men.

For the number five pls read the American Declaration of independence 1776. something like human beings are disposed to suffering whilst evil is sufferable than to abolish the system to wish they are accustomed for LIGHT and TRANSIENT Causes. Biafrans suffer no peculiar evil in Nigeria. in fact, they are constitutionally empowered more than 96% of Nigerian tribes per capita. some tribes don't even have a single minister!

Yes we can ask for more and fairness in federal character. but to put people in harm's way or jeopardize the peace of a whole region because of Federal Character is the height of criminal irresponsibility. When the music is over, as usual, who will be without chairs?!

Bottomline: we all want fairness in the system but no one should be a 'jumping pad' or 'target practice' for anyone to enjoy fairness. that in itself is primitive wickedness to those who are too ignorant to discern that they are the pawns!

N.B. Kanu first step is to propagate separation and to request money to by arms.

What happens to vital supplies of food and medicine in the event of sudden escalation of hostility. What will be the purchasing power of the average biafrans in sudden outbreak of war? This is not guerrilla warfare where rebels depend on the economy of the hostile state. Even fighting BH within north east is hell for civilians how much more fighting separatists in a compact region.

We call for peace not because of a particular indispensable value any region brings to the table but because the discomfort of separation through exuberant threats is unbearable and yields no advantage to anyone based on the morally bankrupt foundation of the architects thereof.

These are all packaging firms.

Does BAT depend on Nigeria for tobacco leaves?

Does nestle depend on the unstable cocoa supply in Nigeria or is peak milk made from Fulani cows ?

All these firms you mentioned are all packaging firms setup to reduce tariffs paid for importation.

They are in Ogun because of two reason:

1. To service the booming and diverse Lagos market. Population and diversity in Lagos serves as a testing ground for the greater Nigerian market as tastes. Lagos is this a good testing ground to see if your product can be widely distributed across Nigeria .

2. Proximity to Lagos ports.

There is nothing unique that Ogun and Oyo offer .

As I said earlier these are foriegn companies investing in packing and redistribution of their products.

In Aba you have home grown industries manned and operated by the local business men.
A lot of raw materials are locally sourced while the remaining are imported. Doesn't take brain surgery to understand that.

I spoke about our population centers so you are regurgitating or buttressing my point.

Lagos is in the SW, deal with it. Kano and Kaduna also have similar advantages with regional differences.

It's simple. Follow the money, nothing ethnic about that.

And what is Ogun and Oyo known for?

Which specific industry is Ogun known for?

Pls name at least one specific industry Ogun is know for.

Aba is known for their clothing and shoe manufacturing.

Warri is known as an oil city and it has several hundred small dockyards and fabrication work yards owned and operated by local populace serving the oil industry.

Pls tell me what Ogun industrial base is known for.
I am waiting.
You have Google for such information.

But even in terms of processing raw materials into finished goods and not just mere rebadging Chinese goods. Lafarge, British American Tobacco, Nestlé, Procter and Gamble, Assometals, May and Baker, Intercontinental distillers, etc etc. All these are huge multinationals. Again I'll refer you to a search engine.

But let me hint on a little secret why SW seems to attract huge industries. Well we've been organized as city states for centuries so the economic strength of our population centers are huge and massive. Which makes it a no brainer for any investment decision. Even stuff you produce in Aba will get traded in SW and you know the profit center is typically the difference between retail and wholesale.
Essentially what you "manufacture" in Aba only generates little income for SE since the margins will be made in the SW due to trading. So while some people manufacture stuff, the real money is in the service industry shortly followed by trading.
SW advantage of having huge educated population centers will always ensure its economy activities is higher than most areas. We attract investors and traders like flies to shit.

It's not accidental that Financial Times called Ibadan one of the next big african cities to watch. Just hope they get rid of that Adedibu mediocre legacy.

http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2012/03/14/africa-10-cities-to-watch/

You see your life?

I have caught you again.

The same repackaging firms that are mainly operated by multinational companies.

Ogun is where most Lagos packaging firms relocated to in the early 2000's after Tinubu drove them away with over taxing.

There are hardly any indigenous firms there and they are simply repackaging and redistribution outlets.

Ariel will import drums of their detergent from Lagos port and transport it to Ogun where it is repacked to meet the low incoming market.

You can't compare Ogun to Aba because these firms in Ogun invested in Ogun as a location but in Aba a network of small manufacturing firms are thriving on their own investments and skill.

The igbos are mostly likely to enter the middle class regardless of their academic background than any tribe.

The middle class in Nigeria is typified as mostly educated individuals with at least a BSC.

While the southwest relies on paid employment in a multinational firm to enter the middle class which will require a university degree, the igbos irrespective find themselves in this class through self employment and they do this through an independent mindset to succeed. This is the secret of entrepreneurship .

So while the SW will have to get a higher degree and the multinational company to employ him or her after attaining their degree the Ibos are already generating their own wealth.

This is what made America great. Not paid employment but small businesses . McDonalds was formed from one burger stand in suburbia but today it is a global brand.

The small scale you dismiss today can grow to conquer the world and there are so many global brands all over the world which started as a one man venture.
This is the folly of relying on stereotypes. You gang up SE and SW as one homogeneous group with stereotypical behaviors. Within the SW the Ijebus and Ijeshas are as entrepreneurial as Igbos if not more and we have enough igbos in service based industries (multinationals). Let's stop the tribalistic display and hubris. Its why Africa is held back as a continent.

They are the only ones creating employment for themselves through genuine hard work and skill.
I acknowledge the entrepreneurial and resilient zeal of the SE business man/woman. It is really impressive and one of the bedrock of our economy. But let's categorize what is being done accurately so we don't dwell on half truths.

If power gets fixed the entire SE will get revolutionized with great industries etc. But don't now delude yourself that SE are the only ones creating employment without government assistance, it's simply a falsehood. Are the igbos the most entrepreneurial as a group? Oh yeah. But are they the only entrepreneurs? Hell no.

Most of what you consider manufacturing in Aba is disingenuous, it's rather assembly of pre-processed Chinese goods in Aba. There are very few processing plants anywhere in the country that transforms raw materials into finished goods. So what we have are assembly plants that rebadge and resell goods from China.

On a positive note, when we eventually fix power, that region will be ready to process raw materials more than most regions.
