Niseed: maybe they had one before and it died or it got eaten (Christmas tinz), I'm not sure how well emus do in captivity.
it will be good to let them know so others (especially kids) are not misinformed.
this reminds me of a primary school that painted a giraffe on its wall and wrote "mouse" next to it.
I also noticed some of their animal enclosures did not have the animals written on them and were replaced with something else.
p.s the ostrich kept alone may be territorial and was attacking the others or sick Okay. Maybe. |

Niseed: Hi, I believe what they have at the Ibadan zoo are ostriches. I visited that zoo once and spent a couple of hours looking at all their wildlife.
Emu's are native to Australia and are much smaller than the ostrich (roughly about the size of a large dog). the ones in Ibadan zoo are almost as big as horses.
Did you check out their massive odd looking soft shelled turtles? Then why mislead people by labeling them Emus? Yea, I saw the turtles. |
Pets › Are These Emus? by kayo80(op): 11:19am On Feb 10, 2017 |
I went to the Zoo inside University of Ibadan yesterday, and I saw these animals I originally thought were Ostriches till I read on the label (on their cage) that they were Emus...a relation of the Ostrich. Anyway, I took pictures and posted on Instagram, and a fried of mine who is really into wildlife told me they weren't Emus but Ostriches. What do you guys think? Where are the animal lovers.

Good day Agric Nairalanders. I am experimenting with Broilers, and I want to see how much I can start making monthly selling them to market women in my area. So, to start with and reduce risk, I purchased 8 five weeks old from a fellow Nairalander in Ibadan yesterday evening. I am going to feed them as much as possible for the three weeks they would be with me, and when I attain the weight size of between 1.8kg and 2kg with them, I will sell off. I bought for N600 each, and I calculating that I would spend at least 400 naira feeding each for the three weeks they would be with me.
If this is how it works out i the end, and I am able to sell to market women for 1,400, then I will replicate this business model with more broilers. I would be updating pictures and findings as the days go.
Below are some pictures of me at the guy's pen yesterday.

What's up...I am the one that bought 8 birds from you yesterday. Hey Nairalanders, the guy's birds are healthy and clean. Checkout pictures of me at his place yesterday. He even has a few lovely looking ducks.

Turks: LOL. Broilers are very easy to raise. Why you dreading them though? I keep reading about them dying. I never have those kinds of experiences with Cockerels or Noilers. I raised 102 Noilers for the first time, and I lost just 2...and that was due to my own carelessness. |

EMMAACHILE: But I have some female chicken looking very heavy oh like cocks. I still want to see pics of them on a scale . From my own personal experience, average mature female Noiler of about 13+ weighs 1.8-2.2kg and the male weigh between 2.2-2.8kg. Anyone that disputes my claims should post evidence of them weighing otherwise. As much as I love Noilers, they ain't the way to go if you want to go commercial. People will price your female chickens as if they are pricing old layers... 1k3...not knowing how much you have spent raising them. No matter how much you get to sell the males, it can't make up for the shortcomings from the female side. |
Agriculture › Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by kayo80(m): 1:53pm On Feb 07, 2017 |
Turks: LOL. AMO won't do that; that'd be huge loss for them cos folks would abandon the females. Yea, I guess so. And I guess I have to abandon Noilers for now. I will have to go with what I have dreaded all these years... Rearing Broilers. |
