Education / Re: Nigeria Scraps Award Of HND Certificates By Polytechnics by kayusbrown(m): 10:05am On Jun 06, 2018 |
This is fake, old recycled news. Moderators should pull it down please. You don't scrap institutions by fiat in a democracy. An act of parliament established polytechnics and only an act of parliament can drastically change their mandate. It's sad seeing supposedly educated people believing this nonsense. |

Olayinkaji: Yes. No license is required. I'll however advise you visit an accredited registration centre if you are not too sure of how to go about it, except if you are outside Nigeria. The risk of messing up your registration is not worth the token you will pay for professional registration especiallly if your registration is special (special if you are a Medical professional, foreign PCM, maried PCM etc.) If you are close to Ogun State, come to READYHANDS TECHNOLOGIES at Abeokuta (08038312501, 08030755190). |

You must have heard how 2017 Batch B registration exercise was crippled nationally on DAY 1 as a result of malfunctioning NYSC biometric client. It was a stressful process for most PCMs who had expected to get their registration done in less than 30minutes at our centre, like their predecessors. Our technical team engaged the issue immediately with a group focused on determining the actual kind of passport photograph the 'choosy' biometric client wants while the other engaged NYSC's technical partner (Sidmach Technologies) in chats to figure out a lasting solution. At the end of the day, we figured a way to make the 'choosy' client accept the passport photographs and also convinced Sidmach Technologies to include a link for upload of scanned passport photograph in the biometric client. We couldn't meet our registration target as a result and we weren't bothered because for us at READYHANDS TECHNOLOGIES, quality service takes precedence. The online registration process is one of the crucial steps you must take to realise your dream of serving your country. You therefore cannot afford to make any costly mistake in the registration process, that may deny you the opportunity to serve or delay your call-up till another batch. At READYHANDS TECHNOLOGIES (an accredited registration center), we deploy our expertise and resources in the registration process to ensure your dream is realised. Why patronise us? 1. Your registration will be handled by a highly experienced team with adequate resources to interface with the NYSC support team and their technical partner on your behalf, to resolve technical issues. We strive to answer all your questions. 2. We have a customized template we give to PCMs to pre-fill to avoid errors. You can request for your copy before the registration day. 3. Multiple registration points to ensure PCMs stand a good chance of getting their most preferred state of deployment and fall into Stream 1. We registered over 100 PCMs on DAY 1 of 2017 BATCH A registration exercise! (Sadly we couldn't live up to that reputation during 2017 Batch B registration as a result of the biometric issue that crippled registration nationwide. Nonetheless, we were among the first to improvise a local solution to overcome the issue and we exceeded that number the following day). 4. Colour printing of Green Slip. 5. Passport photograph service available at subsidized rate. 6. Available ATM card for processing of online payment (a token will be charged). 7. Excellent support for PCMs requiring special registration e.g. Medical professionals, Foreign PCMs, Married PCMs (female), PCMs with SS genotype etc. 8. Free correction service (Date of birth, Name, Course etc.) 9. Registration on DAY 1 guaranteed! 10. Affordable registration fee and guaranteed value for your money. Our Registration Centre: Readyhands Internet Café, Suite 4, A-ONE Memorial plaza, Opposite OLG primary school, Somorin, Obantoko, Abeokuta. Questions?: 08038312501, 08030755190. |

Travel / Re: Should I Go For NYSC Or Continue My Journey Abroad? by kayusbrown(m): 11:23pm On Mar 16, 2018 |
bonjelow: Go for your masters. You can serve anytime you choose to return to Nigeria even if you are above 30 by then. What the NYSC law states is that you must serve if you graduate from a full-time programme when you were 30years old or younger. If you refuse to serve now and travel out of Nigeria, it will be assumed that you evaded service. Anytime you are ready, you can always go back to your school re-fill the mobilisation form and get called up for service. Those obviously old men you see at NYSC camp are examples. They didn't reduce their age. I met a politician during my service year in same situation. He evaded service and had to come back when he was denied some political appointments. He was 45years old then and it showed clearly on all the credentials he used for verification. Don't let NYSC be an impedance to realization of your dreams. 1 Like 1 Share |

Romance / Re: What Occupation Would Stop You From Dating Or Marrying Someone? by kayusbrown(m): 1:58pm On Feb 21, 2018 |
funmisticqueen: Engineers are the registered and recognised professionals involved in research, design, construction, operation and maintenance of machines, systems and structures. There are cadres in the Engineering profession. On top of the food chain in the family are the professionals that are exclusively allowed to use the title 'Engineer' legally. Following are the Technologists, Technicians, Craftsmen and Artisans, with their exclusive legally recognised titles. All professionals in the cadres are actually practicing engineering in the broad sense of it and can actually call themselves Engineers. To differentiate roles and avoid confusion however, the title 'Engineer' is reserved for the cadre saddled with the highest responsibility in any Engineering project. If there is a need to produce a mobile phone for example, the 'Engineer' is responsible for the design (detail plan, component selection, how components are interconnected, prototype or simulation etc.) usually leading to the production of a blueprint for the production of the mobile phone. He may participate at supervisory level (in coordination with the Technologist) in the actual construction process of the phone but those who carry out the actual construction are the Technicians, Craftsmen and Artisans. The title 'Engineer' sounds noble like 'Doctor', 'Barrister' etc. So just like a paralegal will not mind if addressed as Barrister, an artisan will gladly answer when called an Engineer by someone who doesn't know the difference. Then those in the lower cadre often fondly call themselves 'Engineers' as they aspire to become one ultimately by climbing to the top of the food chain. Engineers often work for longer hours, may travel regularly locally and overseas, attend series of meetings and often work under pressure. 1 Like |

Never say never! Used to brag I can never marry a nurse cos of the promiscuity and callousness stereotype. Same with teachers cos of the general belief they are lazy. I however realised, as I grew in wisdom, that it is the personality you are dealing with that matters. That said. As an Engineer however, I may find it difficult settling down with a fellow Engineer if the nature of her work is as demanding as mine. Can't have a shattered home cos of money. 1 Like 1 Share |
Education / Re: Are Polytechnics On Par With Universities? by kayusbrown(m): 9:38am On Feb 20, 2018 |
Boscolo: We have always reiterate this on this forum. Nigerian HND is unique, though it was ill-conceived. That is why there has been moves to scrap the award 'HND' and replace it with B.Tech. But like the OP rightly observed, this is not a sane society. It is only in Nigeria that a tertiary institution cannot award degrees if it doesn't carry the nomenclature 'University'. If MIT, CALTECH etc. were in Nigeria, you would have heard confused institutions like COREN saying their graduates are not registrable as 'engineers' because they didn't graduate from a 'University'. The hood doesn't make the monk. The same nomenclature nonsense is what is impeding Colleges of Education from awarding degrees. It is the content that matters. For factual analysis, take the course synopsis for say B.Sc. Electrical/Electronics Engineering in Unilag and compare to the synopsis of ND+HND of Yabatech. You will see the folly in the discrimination and realise why Nigeria will never progress technologically as long as the discrimination subsists. In saner climes lilke the USA and Canada, you can proceed directly for your master's degree with the Nigerian HND! Yes. There are living testimonies (https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/notes-from-atlanta/ibrahim-waziri-from-hnd-in-nigeria-to-phd-in-america/161195.html). Those are countries that have institutions like World Education Services, where credentials are evaluated on their merit and not their nomenclature. Let's for a while agree that HND is inferior to bachelor's degree. The reasonable thing any government will do is to provide a path to bridge the gap. What are the paths available? 1. PGD: Isn't it ironic that a qualification adjuded as not equivalent to a bachelor's degree is now being accepted for admission to a postgraduate programme? No education policy in the world is as confusing as Nigeria's. 2. Direct Entry: Apart from the the nomenclature nonsense, we also have the 'not less than 3years' clause in the laws establishing Universities, as the minimum period an undergraduate must spend in a University to be awarded a bachelor's degree. This is even a greater nonsense. In saner climes, credits are transferred freely from one institution to the other, as long as certain requirements are met. That is why it is possible for a British HND holder to spend just one year in a TOP-UP programme and acquire a bachelor's degree. Our 'wise' education policy formulators however believe that it is best for NCE and HND holders to study for at least 3years (it doens't matter whether new knowledge is being gained) in the University before getting a bachelor's degree, after study of 3 and 5years respectively in their previous institutions. Wonder why our education system is a joke? Way forward: 1. Scrap HND. Polytechnics should award ND and bachelor's degree in their areas of expertise. Period. 2 Likes |

Chemike16:This is a serious issue. She however shouldn't panic. It can be resolved by NYSC's technical partner because they are the one with direct access to the registration database. Her finger print record will be wiped and she'll be able to re-capture. She should contact the registration support lines or their chat platform. If they don't respond, she should contact Sidmach Technologies. This is why it is important to patronise reputable registration centres. It is also important for PCMs to observe the registration process closely. The finger print captured during the registration process is the only means of verifying you when you get to camp. If your finger print can't be found on their database at camp, you won't be registered. For PCMs at Abeokuta and surrounding towns, come to READYHANDS TECHNOLOGIES, Opposite OLG primary school, Obantoko, Abeokuta for your registration. (08030755190,08038312501). |

kcy:Yes, but not directly. They will re-enable the passport upload link when they they discover uploaded passports aren't good enough. They did for some passports and Signatures during Batch A 2017 registration exercise. A notice will be placed on the dashboard to that effect. If however another person's passport was uploaded in place of yours during the registration process (hardly happens unless you were not there when the form was filled), you need to contact the registration support lines, email or chat platform to resolve that. 1 Like |

This is the worst registration experience since the commencement of NYSC online registration. Sidmach Technologies only did the right thing this evening by updating their biometric client to allow picture upload. Don't know what they were thinking of earlier. It took several complaints for them to do the right thing. We were only able to register about 30 PCMs yesterday through the online capturing process (against our reputation of registering minimum of 100 PCMs on Day 1). We dumped the earlier update to the biometric app when all the passports it accepted were either too bright or a far cry from the normal appearance of the PCM. I will advise all those who registered through the webcam yesterday and today (before the latest update to the app) to brace up for a possible re-upload of their passports. To all our esteemed customers and prospective customers who are yet to register, you can now come for your registration tomorrow with no stress. You will be done in 15minutes. We appreciate you all for your patience. (Modify ) ( Quote) ( Report) (Share ) |

Stbottle:Please pay. With the exception of few northern institutions, most schools will not bother to travel to Abuja for collection of call-up letter on behalf of any PCM. So it is in your interest to pay. If you however can't afford the money now, that won't stop you from registering. The only disadvantage with late payment is delayed call-up number and consequently falling into Stream 2. |
