Runcare:You probably still have installed a higher version of java. If that's the case, the browser plug-in for the higher version of java will override that of version 1.6 in your browser. Uninstall the higher version and its plug-in from your browser. Downgrade the version of java 1.6 you have installed to Update 26. I recommend you use Mozilla Firefox browser. In the Add-on settings of your Mozilla Firefox browser, set your Java 1.6 plug-in to 'Always Activate'. Then you are good to go. |

I often wonder what goes on in the mind of rapists. I think it is more of a mental problem than sexual urge. |
This argument is common especially among those who don't know the difference between pure and applied mathematics. I am an Engineer and will never brag that I am better than a Mathematician in his field. Engineers are only exposed to applied mathematics. All mathematics courses in engineering curriculum have their applications in engineering analysis, otherwise they will be irrelevant. Mathematicians on the other hand study both pure and applied maths. Pure maths is best defined as mathematics for the sake of mathematics; no aplication in focus (though outcomes may be applied later, some findings may be purely theoretical and exist only for aesthetics ). Examples of these pure mathematics topics are Groups and Rings, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis, Calculus of variation, Lesbeque measure and theory of integration etc. Honestly I was sleeping uncontrollably when I picked one of those Advanced Mathematics textbook to read some of these topics. Most Engineers will also sleep or end up with migraine trying to figure out the essence of the concepts in those topics as an Engineering mind is trained to do. The argument now boils down to which is more difficult? Pure or applied maths? Pure mathematics (mathematics in itself) is more difficult. In fact, all mathematics are pure until their useful application is found. Another thing is when you compare same topics in Engineering mathematics textbooks of K. Stroud and Glyn James with that of textbooks written by pure mathematicians like H.D. Kass and Kreyzig, you'll have a better perspective of why an Engineer should never claim to be a Mathematician. |
The positions are more suitable for secondary school leavers living at Abeokuta, preferably around Obantoko. |

kalunomics:The first step is to apply to World Education Services (www.wes.org) for credential evaluation. You'll need to forward your ND and HND transcript to the agency (WES) and pay the prescribed fees. The result of the evaluation will determine your next steps. I don't know the course you studied and the institution you graduated from however, most ND and HND evaluation turns out to be equivalent to US Bachelor's degree (provided the total number of courses you took and passed meets the minimum US standard in terms of credit hours). You can later apply to any US, Canada or Australian University with the result of your credential evaluation. |
We mindlessly import our basic needs and still complain of unemployment. |
Shell joined the train of discrimination in 2011 when it excluded HND holders from its SITP (Shell Intensive Training Programme). Then, they allowed HND holders to go through the application process successfully without any hint of discrimination and even shortlisted some for aptitude test. It was at the venue of the aptitude test at Portharcourt that they took a u-turn and announced that HND holders are excluded from taking the test. My brother, who was among those affected, led a protest against the injustice. They stood their grounds and only compensated the HND invitees for their transportation to the venue of the test. They are not the first multinational oil company to discriminate HND holders. Even government controlled NNPC and NLNG are culprits. |
B. Two people. |
Absolutely possible to earn even higher than that. With OND in engineering and a Technician or Operator job role in the Oil and Gas industry, 80K is chicken change. |
noblemails:That was my set. The experience then wasn't pleasant. Extremely hot weather and scarcity of water. We had to depend on water fetched by villagers from streams. Poor sanitary facilities; you have to do 'shot put'. In fact my first week was like hell but I later readjusted to cope with the conditions. The death of that corps member was a disaster. He was attacked by the snake same day he arrived camp. I believe they've been fumigating the environment regularly since that incidence. Like you said, prospective corps members should ensure they go around with their jungle boots on at nights and when they want to enter the bush for 'shot put'. Yikpata snakes are deadly. |
hisabimbola:You're probably using Google Chrome. Switch to Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. |
engrbamz:Downgrade your installed Java to version 1.6 (uninstall the one you have, search and download java version 1.6 and install). Java versions higher than 1.6 do not support "Liveconect". |
Someone established where you dream to work with your degree/diploma. Start something today and create jobs for yourself and others. It's common to hear complains about unavailability of capital. Capital is not the first thing you need to start a successful business. The first thing you need is the right skill and determination. With that, you will find people that will be ready to invest in you. |
Teempakguy:I agree there is a mindset problem but the system/structure as it is and its philosophy encourage the lazy mindset. The best way to change people's mindset is to create a system that leaves them with no choice if they must fit in. My proposition aims at shifting our educational philosophy from 'Knowing' to 'Doing'. You raised a very important issue about the proposed 6 conventional universities. The idea is to make them mainly postgraduate universities with few undergraduate courses just to allow the tutelage of young aspiring professors. Yes there will be a mad rush for these universities but measures will be put in place to admit only the best. Almost every American High School graduate aspire to study at MIT, Havard and Stanford but only a fraction gets there. There are hurdles to be crossed; finance, academic grades, skills etc. There will be limited merit-based scholarship award for the best students. Tuition fee and other charges will be reintroduced. Quality Education is not cheap. While the conventional universities offer courses like Mechanical Engineering, the specialised universities will offer its area of specialisation like Automobile Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering etc. There are so many details of the plan I can't possibly explain here. On the issue of physics, chemistry etc., they'll still be offered in our secondary schools but instead of having just Science, Commercial and Arts departments at the senior secondary level, there will be modifications/additions to produce departments like Technology, Creative Arts etc. that will teach vocational subjects so that secondary school leavers will have a sense of direction or career path after graduation. |
The problem is not 'certificate' but what I term 'Education without a purpose'. Generally, the purpose of education is not to fill the mind of individuals with fact, but to teach them how to think! Solutions to problems are discovered through creative thinking and not memorization of fact. Knowledge for the sake of knowledge is pointless and that's what our educational system seems to encourage. What should be encouraged instead is acquisition of knowledge with its application in extreme focus. That is the only way education can be purposeful. Let us examine Tertiary Education. In saner climes, every Tertiary Institution is established with a clear objective and such objective is usually geared towards solving a particular problem. That way, the institution will exist for a purpose and its continued existence will depend solely on fulfilling that purpose. But what do we have in Nigeria? Tertiary institutions existing for mudane reasons like Increasing Access, Federal Character etc. or how else do we explain the establishment of 12 more Federal Universities when existing ones are suffering from acute shortage of funds? What purpose will those 12 new ones serve? Perhaps adding to the number of teeming unemployable graduates churned out annually by old ones. We don't need more than 6 Universities (One in each geopolitical zone) if our attention is on quality and purpose as against quantity. As it is today, it is no secret that the combined useful research output of of MIT, Havard and Stanford (just 3 universities) in a year for instance, will be more than that of all our Federal Universities put together for same period. Isn't it therefore obvious that it is quality and sincerity of purpose that matters and not quantity? We need a radical change and this is what I propose: 1. A state of emergency should be declared on Education. 2. At the tertiary level, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics should be scrapped and their structures merged with proximate Universities. We should only have one Conventional University in each geopolitical zone while the remaining Universities should be converted to Specialized Universities offering courses at two levels; associate degree (2years of undergraduate study) and bachelor's degree (4years of undergraduate study). Technical and Vocational programmes should be the focus at associate degree level. 3. The mandate of the six Conventional Universities should be purely Research and Development. The Specialized Universities should focus on training of highly skilled manpower while also carrying out research focused mainly on solving problems in their respective constituencies. 4. The Federal government should stop subsidizing tuition fees for bachelor's degree programmes. Such funds should be diverted to funding of Technical and Vocational Education at associate degree level in the new specialized Universities. 5. Vocational Centres, under the mentorship of the Specialized Universities, should be established in each Local Government area to absorb Secondary School Leavers who may not be interested in pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree. 6. Broad subjects such as Physics, Commerce, Government etc. should be de-emphasized in Secondary Schools and substituted with narrow subjects such as Basic Technology, Book Keeping, Civic Education etc. 7. Primary Education should be fully funded, made free and compulsory. |
Asa... the definition of good music! |
JAkpayen:Holding of breathe doesn't prevent electric shock. Don't try it. |
Rashdimuh:It is not compulsory. There is no instruction on their website specifying colour printing. We only do that at our Cafe so that customers will get more value for their money. |
For those with SS Genotype or Poor state of Health, be prepared to pay extra because additional information will be filled and evidence of ailment will be scanned and uploaded. We charge 900 naira for such registration. Similarly, foreign trained graduate registration is 1,500 naira because all credentials including International Passport and other documents will be scanned and uploaded. In summary, normal registration shouldn't be more than 700 naira, with at most 200 naira extra charges if you're burrowing the Cafe's ATM card. The bank payment option is there if you don't want to borrow ATM card. |
Rashdimuh:No. One of the printouts should be your Green slip and the other your Payment Receipt. Colour Printing is not compulsory. |
I operate an approved registration centre. We charge 700 naira and print the Green Slip in colour. No approved registration centre should charge you more than 700 except of course if the extra charges is for the use of their ATM card. |
IYANGBALI: You are on your own o |
I've not been there either for the past 5 years. Many still go only to keep up appearances... ![]() My decision is personal anyway. Church is good, when you find the right one. |
Not surprised. Universities should be centres of Research and Development. Ours are mere degree mills. Isn't their failure evident in our level of development? Why is anyone surprised? |
It should be 180 across all tertiary institutions. Why create unnecessary dichotomy? Colleges of Education should have the highest cut-off if there will be any form of disparity. Only the best brains should be trained as teachers. With this arrangement, colleges of education will be left with the residual candidates, who may not even be interested in teaching at all. Don't know what's wrong with our policy makers. |
omonnakoda:Would have inserted a link but I'm replying with a phone. Check this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/370346/what-hnd-equivalent-usa The credential evaluation agency is World Educational Services (WES) www.wes.org . Besides, I know personally two seniors from my alma mater who gained master's degree admission in the USA with their HND after the evaluation. |
omonnakoda:Is the Nigerian HND the same as other HNDs obtainable in Europe? This is the question most Bsc supremacists shy away from. The BTEC-HND in the UK for example is just a 2-year programme not requiring another 2-year diploma (ND for example in Nigeria) as part of entry requirements. In other words, it takes 2years of full-time study to obtain HND in Europe while it takes 5years of full-time study to obtain the Nigerian HND. Though the two bear the same nomenclature it is obvious they are not equal in terms of academic worth. This is why the Nigerian HND, when evaluated alongside its prerequisite (ND), is usually found to be equivalent to bachelor's degree. There are attestations to that on this forum by HND holders who have done such evaluation for postgraduate studies. |
Jakara:It's all politics and has nothing to do with professional or academic competence. You won't find such discrimination in the Military and Police because the Defense and Police Academies were awarding HND to their graduates before they were converted to degree awarding institutions. So most of those in the top echelons of the Military and Police are HND holders and will therefore not allow such evil dichotomy to polarize their institutions. The agitations about the dichotomy have been endless. Last year, a bill seeking to abolish the discrimination scaled through second reading in the Senate. I believe the end is near. We are waiting for PMB to appoint the Minister for Education and hoping it will be Obiageli Ezekwesili. She understands the problem and has a viable solution. My advice to those who know their worth and can't endure the nonsense going on in the ministry of interior is to quit their jobs. Killing your colleagues to express your anger is totally wrong and an act of treason. You know what you were going into because the discrimination is always evident in their job adverts. This is why most HND holders, who know their worth, didn't apply for the position they were relegated to in the recent Nigeria Immigration Service recruitment. So quit now before it is too late. Entrepreneurship offers a level playing ground and those of us who embraced it now have CVs from B.Sc. holders on our desks with absolute prerogative to employ them or not. You can view my profile to read more about the issue for a better perspective. We will continue to be a consuming economy until we abolish this dichotomy and give technical education its deserved priority. |
14DUI:Legalizing bigamy will solve lots of social problems unlike this gay nonsense that will end up destroying the family structure as we know it. |
