Jobs/VacanciesRe: Shell Discrimination Of HND Holders, Equating Them With Bsc Third Class. by kayusely: 4:29pm On Nov 10, 2015
fratermathy:
This is getting too old and stale.

While I do not support totally embarrassing HND graduates and denying them of promotions, appointments and a chance to make a successful career, it should be noted that HND and B.Sc/B.A/B.Agric/B.Tech/LL.B/B.Fisheries/MBBS/DVM are different and the dichotomy must be emphasised.
HND is a technical diploma. It is technically not even a Degree but a National Diploma. B.Sc and its other appellations are the recognised standard for academic, theoretical and career based jobs and appointments. That is not to say HND cannot be used. It is just that HND is better off for handy middle-levelled and technical jobs/careers. The whole essence of HND is to make sure that there are middle-levelled skilled people in the society that can be called upon and relied on for their technical expertise. University graduates are seen as having done a theoretical study with much intellectual rigour and are, thus, deemed to have a high intellectual acuity for certain professions and careers. This must be known and not relegated. No matter how much sentiments come in and no matter how much we try to equate these certifications, the sacrosanct fact is that they are not the same. As long as one is a "Diploma" and another is a "Degree", they can NEVER be treated equal and same.

On the issue of Shell equating HND with Third Class, I have iterated in the previous paragraph that HND is not seen as an intellectually inclined degree but rather as a technically inclined diploma. Having a Distinction in HND only proves that you have an excellent technical expertise, perhaps even beyond that of University Degree holders. However, this does not translate into the fact that you are intellectually buoyant enough to stand a University First Class product. It doesn't add up. For one, our Nigerian Polytechnics operate a 4 points GPA system as opposed to the 5 Points used in our Nigerian varsities. Secondly, the units of courses taken in HND programmes are far lower, both individually and cumulatively, when compared with a University. Thirdly, the course contents in Polytechnics are peripheral and elementary as opposed to that of a University! Fourthly, the calibre of academic staff and their standing is much lower than that of a University. For one, a Polytechnic cannot have a Professorial Cadre! Polytechnics usually have substandard facilities and make-shift labs and instruments. All these come together to haunt the graduates of Nigerian Polytechnics!

The solution to all these bifurcations is easy. Polytechnics should be made to award a B.Tech rather than an "Ordinary" or "Higher" diploma. Polytechnic facilities should be overhauled and made to standards. The Professorial Cadre, alongside its competitive and cumbersome "floating" process, should be introduced to the Polytechnics. Polytechnics should employ the 5 or more Points GPA system and courses should be well developed, standard and carry higher units! In fact, the term "Polytechnic" should be hijacked from parlance and replaced with University of Technology or any other soothing appellation. We should always strive to follow the UK pattern in our technological pedagogical system.

Finally, on the issue of ostracization and stigmatization, I believe it is only Nigerian Legislative Bodies that can end this once and for all. As long as they are comfortable with it, nothing will change! Let's just stop flogging this issue and look forward to better things! This issue has been discussed, ignited and quenched severally since Nigerian employers' decisions to employ preferential treatments! It is time we either take drastic measures or simply let it go as we have always done.

#MyTake
Mr. Baminasri, I am sorry about your plight! Your best is yet to come. I'd advise you to get a PGD and possibly a Masters though.

CC:
Freemanan, Freeemann, Goodboiy, Scholes0, LordAdam; What do you think? wink
In addition to your submission, the issue of entry qualification is also a major factor. Universities demand for five credit passes in WASSCE (others even six) while polytechnics take four credits.

PoliticsRe: DSS After Dasuki To Recover Tape Of Jega's Pre-election Secret Meeting With Nort by kayusely: 3:12am On Nov 10, 2015
flyingsnail:
The Department of State Services, DSS, continued siege to the residence of former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) is as a result of the agency wanting to lay their hands on the tape of the secret meeting former INEC chairman Professor Attahiru Jega held with Northern leaders in Dubai which is in Dasuki’s possession.

The DSS had on July 9, 2015, on a Thursday, raided Dasuki’s Abuja and Sokoto homes which the agency claimed to be based on credible intelligence linking the immediate past NSA, Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (Col rtd) with alleged plans to commit treasonable felony against the Nigerian State.

However, it has been learnt that the tape of the secret meeting Jega had with Northern elders in Dubai in Dasuki’s possession is the reason why the DSS invaded his house.

On the 5th of November, three months after raiding his Abuja residence, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) again returned to Sambo’s house.

Investigations revealed that the DSS operatives besieged the residence of Dasuki with the intent to prevent him from embarking on a supposed planned trip to the UK for medical treatment.

On Tuesday, a court had ruled that Dasuki’s international passport, which was seized by the DSS, should be released to enable him travel abroad for medical treatment which led to the DSS operatives besieging his residence with the intent to prevent him from embarking on a planned trip to the UK for medical treatment.

Reports indicate that the DSS is trying to stop Dasuki from taking abroad the tape of Jega’s pre-election secret meeting with Northern elders in Dubai abroad – as the content of the tape is rumored to be whistle-blower on the 2015 Presidential election.

Professor Jega Dubai meeting with Northern elders in Dubai had been the basis that calls for Jega’s resignation was tagged on, with some reports before the election indicating that he had submitted his resignation which was rejected by Goodluck Jonathan – based on public outcry which would have followed suit.

morereb10:
Came across an old video on Youtube, were Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, founder of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu shared his thoughts on Biafra to his congregation. In the video below, he acknowledged Nigeria as one of the richest oil producing country, and also emphasized that if Nigeria can not unite as one then it should divide.

In his own words;

“In some countries, Nigerians are treated as monkeys. One of the richest oil-producing countries in the whole universe. That chain that is holding Nigeria will break this night in Jesus name.”

“If we must be one Nigeria, let it be one Nigeria, but if it can’t be one Nigeria, let us divide. I repeat it, so that when they begin to misquote me, catch me right. Those who are coming to arrest, get ready to be arrested too by the heavenly powers. If we have to be one Nigeria, let it be one Nigeria. But if we can’t be one Nigeria, let us divide.”

“If Nigeria is divided, some Igbo people will like to be Hausa. Off course you know that. So, everybody should be allowed to go to where they want. There are some Igbo people who have no hut in their father’s house here (in the South East), but they have ten-storey building in the North and Lagos. Have you ever seen any storey-building built by a Hausa man in Igboland? Yet we say we are one Nigeria. Not even a hut. What is happening? Let us tell ourselves the truth.”

Recently the cleric was captured with the First Lady of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari in Enugu for another edition of the Women Health Initiative.

Reediano:
Am sure most of you might have been in that kind of situation where you have little or no airtime on your line but you are so stranded that you can't buy a recharge card and you also have no internet access to perform an online topup. This can be really frustrating.

This method saves you the energy and time wasted when searching for where to purchase airtime or queuing at an ATM just to recharge your line. But unfortunately not all banks currently supports this for now.

Below are the list of supported banks and their respective ussd code.

BREAKING NEWS| How Buhari Smuggled Fugitive Omar al-Bashir Out of India to Sudan

http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/breaking-news-how-buhari-smuggled-fugitive-omar-al-bashir-out-of-india-to-sudan/

President of Sudan Omar al-Bashir who has been declared a war criminal by the ICC for alleged genocide and war crimes during the Darfur war was smuggled from India to Sudan aboard the Nigerian Presidential Jet.

It will be recalled that Omar al-Bashir attended the India-Africa Summit held in New Delhi India. India is not party to the Rome Statute that created the ICC, which is an independent international court, and New Delhi is not expected to oblige it by arresting Omar al-Bashir.

After the summit, Omar al-Bashir was left with the dilemma of returning to Sudan and like a good brother, President Muhammadu Buhari offered to take him to Sudan aboard the Nigerian Presidential Jet.

As reported by Vanguard , President Muhammadu Buhari made a “technical stop-over” in Sudan on October 31st on his way from New Delhi.  Our source reliably informed us that the “technical stop-over” was to drop the Fugitive President Omar al-Bashir in Sudan.

Nigeria deposited its instrument of ratification to the Rome Statute on 27 September 2001. The ICC therefore has jurisdiction over Rome Statute crimes committed on the territory of Nigeria or by its nationals from 1 July 2002 onwards. As it stands, Nigeria is party to the Rome Statute that created the ICC.

The question now is : Why will President Muhammadu Buhari smuggle an International fugitive aboard the Nigerian presidential Jet knowing fully well that his actions contravenes the International Statutes that Nigeria is signatory to.

PoliticsRe: Disillusioned Lagosians Express Growing Disappointment In Ambode’s Leadership by kayusely: 3:32am On Oct 30, 2015
OmoEniafelamo:
By Samuel Ogundipe

Akinwunmi Ambode has been a student of progressive politics throughout his adult life. Long before he considered running for governor earlier this year, he served under successive progressive administrations in Lagos State for 27 years.

His stump speeches throughout the campaign included a promise to “consolidate” the progressive policies of his two firebrand predecessors. And shortly after his inauguration on May 29, he set about making the state as sustainable and as financially solvent as his predecessor, Tunde Fashola –eliminating wastes within his own office and streamlining state agencies and parastatals.

“We must establish a system that is both accountable and responsive to all Lagosians and I don’t think we can achieve this if we don’t put prudent policies in place to consolidate progressive efforts of past governments,” the governor said while meeting with permanent secretaries and heads of parastatals upon assumption of office.

Lagos’ progressive experiment has attracted the attention of all Nigerians across political spectrum, as they continue to see the Centre of Excellence as the model state whose direction the remaining 35 must emulate. This is hardly a surprise considering the fact that the state has the busiest local and international airports, three congested seaports and a massive revenue base. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the state recorded over N1T in internally-generated revenue between 2010 and 2014.

Ambode’s background as a highly-educated civil servant with primary skill in taxation and auditing shatters any doubt about his intellectual wherewithal. But as he continues the struggle to improve the atmosphere in Lagos or maintain the pace of his predecessor –amidst rising criminal activities–Ambode risks facing the ire of Lagosians who say they’re growing disillusioned with him.

Dupe Killa, a lifelong progressive, campaigned vigorously for Ambode’s victory, because, she said, she had “too much at stake to leave the affairs of Lagos to PDP.”

Six months later, Killa has joined a growing chorus of despondent Lagosians who say they’re beginning to decipher a stark disconnect between their new governor’s priorities and those of his predecessors on the back of whose benevolence Ambode cruised to victory.

Governor Ambode “is not doing as well as is required for Lagos,” added Killa. “This position draws on the salient contrasting points of Lagos’ needs versus his current pace.”

Kenneth Haastrup, an insurance broker who commutes daily from Ilupeju to Marina, said he was amongst those trapped in a traffic gridlock that gripped the state on September 21, after a disagreement between the state government and transport union culminated in truckers parking on Ikorodu Road, the busiest in the state.

“I was uncontrollably furious when I learnt that the governor was partially to blame for the traffic,” said Haastrup, 46. “I began to regret my donation to his campaign and also the vote I gave him, because he can’t tell us he didn’t know about these problems before he became governor.”

Another demoralised Lagosian is Madam Faith Afegbua, a Festac grocer who witnessed the fatal robbery of banks along the busy 4th Avenue–the fourth of such armed robbery operations since Ambode assumed office. She said she never lived under a more frightening administration in Lagos than the current one.

“Before, we used to have petty-petty thieves, but now we have big robbers using heavy shooting machines to rob banks in our neighbourhood,” said Afegbua. “I moved to Lagos in 1973 and I have never been this fearful–tell him to get to work,” a visibly angry Afegbua added.

One of the topmost requirements expected of anyone seeking elective office in Nigeria is the ability to understand Nigerians’ impatience and move quickly to preempt it upon assumption of office.

Many in the Class of 2015 Nigerian governors, like Kaduna’s El-Rufai and Wike in Rivers, recognised this and acted in a timely manner to display their mettle. But Governor Ambode has not been able to justify the trust Lagosians placed in him when they gave him their mandate on April 11.

According to CIAPS Governors Performance Index, CGPI, an advanced mathematical tool that grades the performance capability of each of the 36 governors, Ambode has consistently performed below par every month since he assumed office.

CGPI, which is an initiative of the Centre for International, Advanced and Professional Studies, CIAPS, a non-partisan public policy think-tank, ranked Ambode below the 60% performance average in July, August and September and the centre’s director, Professor Anthony Kila, warned that, as a result of the growing cases of armed robbery and increase in threat level to peace of Lagos residents, Ambode’s showing is unlikely to improve when the index for the month of October comes out early next month.

“Although he’d just announced his cabinet,” said Kila, “the cases of armed robbery and other criminal activities that continue to threaten the peace of Lagosians will be weighted.”

Commenting in its September report, CGPI wrote of criminal activities in Lagos: “Security however is becoming an issue again as we are now seeing some marginal increase in crimes around the state.”

Kila, a Jean Monnet professor of Strategy and Development at Cambridge University, said Ambode failed to understand that an elected public officer has just a three-month window to get to work, no matter how naturally lethargic the individual may be.

“No matter how sluggish you are at doing things, you must understand that you have only a three-month window to start taking measures that display the leadership quality in you.”

While Mr. Ambode may be slow in making sweeping policy decisions compared to his predecessors, his ability to run a state as massive as Lagos without commissioners for several months shows that he has a good grasp of his new job. The governor has met every crisis with decisive gusto. He abandoned all tasks to witness a fire outbreak at the suburban community of Iyana-Ipaja on June 2, barely 3 days into his administration.

Less than a month later, the governor had started paying victims of the inferno. Also compensated were survivors of another fire outbreak at Idimu, which occurred on June 6, in an apparent attempt to avoid the elitist label that impugned the empathy posture of his predecessor, Mr. Fashola.

The governor also approved release of about 2,500 pending Certificates of Occupancy as a great relief to many downtrodden landowners across the state.

Ambode’s Chief Press Secretary, Habib Haruna, told Happenings some mischievous elements are only out to tarnish the image of the administration because his principal has done what is humanly possible for him to do and will continue to do more.

“People will complain about one thing or the other, but most of the complaints are coming from those who have sinister motives of tarnishing the image of the administration.”

“Within few months,” said Haruna, “our government has been able to start capital projects, compensate all victims of Idimu and Iyana-Ipaja fire disasters and paid N11B to pensioners.”

Apart from the foregoing measures, Haruna averred that Ambode is the only governor in the Class of 2015 that has begun capital projects.

“Lagos State is the only state that is currently embarking on capital projects; others are either trying to pay salaries or barely paying salaries.”

On traffic gridlock and intense criminal activities across the state, the CPS said Mr. Ambode has already contained the gridlock and placed orders for new choppers to properly improve policing.

“The traffic has now reduced,” he said, “administration officials are not sleeping over these matters because they mean a lot to the governor.” “We’ve also concluded plans to purchase police helicopters for rapid response to crimes such as armed robbery.”

The jury is still out on whether Lagosians will face higher tax prices for the governor to be able to implement most of his progressive agenda. He recently lamented that the plummeting oil prices are beginning to affect the state’s tax receipts, N276B in 2014 (Credit: NBS), urging residents to brace themselves as his administration makes tough choices in the coming months.

Ambode is no stranger to financial distress in public service. As the state’s Auditor-General and later Accountant-General (2001-2012), Ambode is widely acclaimed as the brain behind the state’s deep revenue base and he helped to prudently manage the state’s inchoate financial resources after President Olusegun Obasanjo illegally withheld the state’s statutory monthly allocations during the last decade. But his real test will probably be how he augments the state’s dwindling revenues against a rising demand from the ever-growing Lagos population.

Ambode’s political opponents see no bright spots. Dr. Adegbola Dominic, a Lagos PDP chieftain, told Happenings he still finds it difficult to understand Ambode’s policy thrusts several months after he assumed office. “It doesn’t look to me like this is a serious man,” he said. “We don’t even know what his policy fundamentals are; maybe it’s because he rode into office by being someone’s political errand boy.” Dominic added that he is hardly upbeat about “any meaningful change” anchored by Ambode because “the governor has been dithering on almost everything that is important to Lagosians.”

Killa, who uses her Twitter presence to champion progressives’ causes, concluded of Ambode’s exploit in office so far: “It is a sad, shocking fail.”

Ambode’s commissioners were inaugurated last week, consequently eliminating one of the administration’s oft-repeated alibis. They will now have to work under a more demanding atmosphere at a shorter time frame.

Notwithstanding, how the governor and the ruling APC manage the growing concerns of Lagosians will have broad implications for the viability of the progressive experiment —whether it would eventually be adopted by states in other regions of the country or crash under the political weight of its foremost crusader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The man is grossly incompetent. He is busy pulling down his predecessor and rubbishing his achievements instead of building on it.

ALISMILE:
An Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo,
has backed the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade
Aladetoyinbo, for banning the Eze Ndigbo title
within the state capital.
Specifically, the group said the title was not
recognised by traditional rulers in the South-East
and added that it was wrong of any Igbo man to
parade himself as the Eze Ndigbo in the South-
West.
Aladetoyinbo banned the title in the town
following the face-off he had with the leader of
the Igbo community in Akure, Gregory Iloehike,
over the crisis at Mojere market.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo called for the
implementation of a February 20, 2008
resolution by the South-South traditional rulers,
who condemned and banned the use of the Eze
Ndigbo title outside the South-East.
A statement issued by the leaders of the group,
Joseph Okeke, and Lemmy-Kingsley Chukwuma,
said, “It is the hitherto refusal of the relevant
authorities to stop Iloehika from parading
himself as Eze Ndigbo of Akure as directed by
the South-East traditional rulers and the
Ohanaeze Ndigbo since 2008, that gave him the
courage to desecrate the stool of the Deji, an act
which the Igbo in the state were not satisfied
with.”
The group commended the monarch for
employing maturity in resolving the face-off
between Igbo people and the indigenes of
Akure.

PoliticsRe: Appeal Court President Arrests Judgement In Saraki's Case. by kayusely: 6:34pm On Oct 19, 2015
onile0500:
Appeal Court President arrests judgement in Saraki's case.

Judicial sources has confirmed that forces from Bourdillon, a Governor from one of the North west states and some elements in the Presidency had compelled the President of the Court of appeal, Hon. Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to arrest the judgement in the case filed by Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki challenging his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal due to non compliance with the provision of the law, 30 minutes before the panel resumed sitting to deliver its judgement.

It will be recalled that two hours before the time slated for the commencement of the delivery of the judgement by the Court of Appeal, an online platform, Sahara Reporters, had started a game of blackmail on the judges as it reported in their story that "the Court of Appeal Abuja, have concluded plans to order a stop to the trial of Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal ordering immediate discontinuation of Mr Saraki's trial".

Nigerian public home and abroad have been wondering whether the online platform got the hint of the content of the supposed judgement and therefore decided to preempt the outcome of the case.

It is curious and unusual that a panel of Judges of the Court of Appeal will fix a date for giving judgement and less than 30 minutes to the period, the Judges did not even show up to brief either the counsel in chamber or the court but only a court clerk sauntered into the court room to announce that the judgement has been postponed and the court will communicate a new date to the parties at a later day.

The court clerk then immediately drove Saraki's lawyer and other people out of the court room and locked the doors and windows.

Strangely, Mr. Rotimi Jacob SAN and other government lawyers did not turn up at all, leaving many to assume that they had foreknowledge of the way the events eventually turned out.

Highly placed sources in the judiciary confirmed that Justice Bulkachuwa is under extreme pressure not to allow any development that will jeopardize the plan to convict Saraki by all means at the CCT.

The source added that the President of the Court of Appeal may attempt to reassign the case to a more malleable panel of judges.

Many senior members of the bench described what happened in the Court of Appeal today as an aberration and a flagrant attempt to bring the judiciary to disrepute.

Some of them are of the opinion that Justice Bulkachuwa herself is under pressure from external forces whose brother bidding she would be inclined to do because of her on-going investigations for some past misdeeds.

"With what happened today, The President of the court of appeal may make desperate moves that we cannot immediately contemplate. Only God knows where this will end", a top retired judge said.
You are just making sweeping allegations which you cannot prove.

The Abuja Appeal courthas indefinitely postponedruling on the case between the Senate president Bukola Saraki and the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The court gave no reason for adjournment and to communicate a new date to all parties at a later date.In September, Saraki had approached the appeal court seeking to stop his trial for supposed false declaration of assets at the CCT.
The Senate president was arraigned on September22, after he tried ineffectively to use the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal to thwart his arraignment .
Saraki was scheduled to return to the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday to face federal prosecutors who maintain that they have overwhelming evidence against him.The CCT has slammed a 13-count charge of corruption on Bukola Saraki.

Igbos and Yorubas won't burn this country for us!
I'm posting this photo to correct this rumour going up and down about people in diaspora leaders can't wear their crown to visit the state king. That is the Eze Ndigbo of kano with Sanusi.

Whenever my owan people want to visit the Emir in kano, our Enogie goes with his full regalia, and nothing has happened.
Even in universities, when a tribe in the school want to visit a traditional leader, they go along with their appointed or voted king/queen.
culture and tradition differ from one tribe to the other, what is acceptable in one community can be a taboo in another. We should respect the culture and tradition of our hosts.

Over 48 hours after the 50-man armed robbery gang
stormed FESTAC and robbed two banks in gestapo
style, the police in Lagos Thursday said their appeal
for help to the Nigerian Navy (NN) and Nigerian Air
Force (NAF) did not yield results.
Speaking on anonymity, senior police officers told
THISDAY that they had radioed first for help from the Navy in Lagos, when the armed robbers struck that morning, but got no favourable response.
According to the sources, the navy had told them (the police), that even their smallest vessel cannot access the canal since it's too shallow, adding that they should seek help from the Air Force.
Similarly, the police had allegedly sought for the air
power of the Airforce to assist in pursuing the
suspects as they made their getaway through the
canal.
The senior police officers also claimed that the Air
Force had not outrightly rejected to help, rather they
were told to contact NAF headquarters for clearance.
When contacted, the Director Navy Information
(DINFO), Commodore Aliyu Kabiru, said "The NN is
constitutionally responsible in defending the nation's territorial intergrity by sea. Thus, the Navy operates in the open seas.
