The lockdown period has given me the opportunity to read books. I have read books on Nigeria history, politics, world, economy and motivational books I read most of these books at my leisure time and enjoyed it. I fell in love with books because of my father. My father had many books, sometimes I wonder if he has read all of them. I naturally developed an appetite for reading, so those days I will read and ask questions. I read fiction books like : Things fall apart Half of a yellow sun Without a silver spoon Chike and the river One good turn deserves another Born to win One week one trouble The potter's wheel Expo “77” Purple hibiscus Women of owu. The arrow of God and many more made my childhood an interesting experience Books give insights to other people's knowledge, experiences and wisdom. Books are life Without books, the world would never have advanced as rapidly as it has done in the last 500 years. My vocabulary has also improved got better because I made reading books a habit. I also like discussing ideas and sharing opinions and asking questions based on issues raised in books I read. Books have changed my life so much that I will never stop read them. If you don't, make a habit of reading, a book a week, or at least a month. Your vocabulary will not only get better but your mindset and knowledge and behaviours will vastly improve. Books have influenced and changed my mindset. So much that I will never stop reading them. What books have influenced you? Share with me in the comment section

February 2017, I was at FC Ifeanyi Uba Nnewi to watch the CAF confederations Cup match between FC Ifeanyi Uba and AL Masry of Egypt. The regular tickets for the match sold for ₦1000. I made a mental note of the fact that people stood outside the stadium waiting for the gate to be thrown up. The reason is not because they don't have the money, the reason is because they feel it is not worth it. They feel that since Sen. Ifeanyi Uba is a billionaire, allowing fans to watch matches for free is what he can afford. The Godswill Akpabio international stadium has a 30,000 capacity seater. The only time you will ever get to see football fans in their numbers in that stadium is when the Super Eagles are playing. Akwa United and Dakkada FC barely manage to have 1000 fans in that same stadium for NPFL games The point is this, most Nigerians including me, are averse to the culture of paying for premium contents they consume. To watch Arsenal play a game in the premier league as an adult will cost you £97 that's the equivalent of ₦47000. Many of us watch these games for ₦100 or ₦200 but anytime DSTV increases it subscription rate, they are heckled and call them all sorts of names. We would rather download songs from blogs than stream it online. We complain that Nigeria league clubs don't play players very well, yet the only time we watch games is when the gates are thrown open. We would rather download movies online or buy it at upper Iweka for ₦100 instead of paying for it through the right medium. We don't want to pay for all these things, yet we place high expectations on the producers of these arts. Till we change our mindset and begin to pay the price for these contents we should come off the high horse of huge expectations and entitlement. |
