onomej4u1: useless government. What can 600 bags of rice do for most States with over 7m to 10m citizens? 20 trucks carrying 30 bags each per State translate to 600 bags of Rice.
Why is a truck carrying only 30 bags of 50k rice of 60 bags of 25kg bags of Rice. Is that not waste of resources.
Our leaders are clueless and all the palliatives will be use to settle part faithful in each State The best could have been identifying the poorer people in each town, that is if the teams will be truthful and credit some money to them. Politicians will still loot them. If state governors, assembly members both national and state and chairman also support and key into it by also contributing, then it will work because they will be able to monitor. I support that if they contributed too. |

MasterJayJay: They made it 25kg so it would appear that it's big
Let's use the normal size which is 50kg. The 1,200 bags of 25kg will be 600 bags of 50kg rice. 600 bags for 1 state, that's for 600 families. 600 families times 36 states (plus Abuja) = 22,200 families to benefit out of millions of families. 600 bags multiply by 20 trucks is 12000 of 50kg bag rice for each state not 600 bags. Get proper education. That is a primary school calculation. Let state governments, national and state assembly memebers imitate the effort of the federal government. Am not saying they have done best but they need to be greater collaboration between them. |

SmartPolician: The FG shouldn't spend from LG allocations. In states where there are no LGA chairmen, save the money in an account where it yields interests until it is disbursed. Don't use their money to pursue your political agenda. FG should pay monthly salaries of workers whose LGA has caretaker chairmen to the account of the various council and set up a team to monitor the chairmen for prompt payment. It shouldn't be an issue. It is doable. |

A devastating incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice, as a 43-year-old Nigerian citizen, Prince Ebuka, was allegedly shot and killed by South African police in Danielskuil, Northern Cape.
According to reports, Prince Ebuka was extrajudicially killed by the police, with eyewitnesses claiming that he was unarmed and posed no threat to the officers.
The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear, but sources close to the family revealed that Prince Ebuka was a law-abiding citizen who had no criminal record.
The Nigerian Diaspora Forum (NDF) has condemned the killing, describing it as a ‘senseless and avoidable tragedy.’
In a statement, Hon. Chike Amadichi, Country Director of NDF, urged the South African authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.
He said, “The Nigerian Diaspora Forum (NDF) expresses its deep concern over the recent tragic event in Danielskuil, Northern Cape, South Africa on 17th May 2024.
“We urge the public to stay informed as we closely follow developments and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
“Our commitment remains strong towards advocating for justice and upholding human rights for all Nigerians living in the diaspora.”
This incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of Nigerians living in South Africa, many of whom have faced xenophobic attacks and harassment in recent years.
The group also urged the federal government to take decisive action to protect its citizens abroad.
As the investigation continues, the Nigerian community in South Africa and beyond is mourning the loss of Prince Ebuka, a husband, father, and friend who was brutally taken away from his loved ones.
His family and friends are demanding answers and justice, and the world is watching to see how the South African authorities will respond to this tragic incident.
AFP You hardly hear of other Nigeria tribe been killed in South Africa. The igbos are into drug selling. My cousins live there and they confirmed it too. Yorubas, Edo and deltans are mostly into yahoo. South Africa police don't go for yahoo guys but they hate drug dealing cos their school children are now sniffing it.This guys disguises as businessmen. Sultan of Sokoto was a serving military officer when his father died in the ill fated plane crash with some family members and When he was chosen as the emir his appointment as military officer was terminated I Sultan wasn't terminated but he did voluntary retirement. He still recieve his benefits from the military. Honestly he should have just followed the sultan of sokoto pattern or don't take the kingship. According to the his people, they bodly said it hasn't happened before in the town. We now worship money too much in Nigeria. A king whether been first class or not shouldn't descend so low. An ADC is like an errand boy position but you will be rich and connected. Many people who may not or couldn't pass through the chief of staff to the president, uses the ADC to penetrate the president or governors. He just used the military to disguise about retirement cos if Tinubu tenure ends, he will run and continue his kingship and just do voluntary retirement with the military. Mustapha hamza an ADC to Abacha is an example of the position. |
Politics › Re: The LG Autonomy Hype And Why Peter Obi Is Silent On It. by kedeojo(m): 9:55am On Jul 13, 2024 |
Sarcastic101: The only thing the LG autonomy will cause is that local governments would be funded directly from federal government's and not through state government anymore. This is a very good thing for a country that does have corruption in it but there're a few problems with it and that's why Peter obi choose to stay silent and watch, the problems are as follows:
1) IT IS UNNECESSARY: The only reason it was implemented was to curb corruption at the state level of government,if we didn't have much corruption in the country then there wouldn't be need for the LG to be autonomous. Most developed countries don't have autonomous LGs so Nigerians who see it as a step towards progress aren't well informed.
2) IT WILL BREED MORE CORRUPTION: The LG autonomy will make the distribution of funds more complex and create more loopholes for embezzlement. It'll allow for more people to be able to access government funds and each will embezzle to a sum total higher than what one state government used to, for example Lagos state used to receive just an amount of money from the government and the state might embezzle the funds but that will be just once then the rest will be sent to the LGs but now Lagos state with 22 LGs with receive 22 different amounts of money which will be embezzled 22 times by 22 different LG chairmen making the money short more than it will before their autonomy.
3) IT WILL CAUSE CONFLICTS BETWEEN DIFFERENT LGs IN EACH STATE: Not all LGs are of the same size, population or generate the same amount of money for the government,if all LGs in a state are given the same amount of money the bigger LGs will complain that their fund is to small for their size and that of the small LGs are too much for them. Even if the money is shared according to size there'd still be conflicts surrounding equality of funds. State governments have had these problems with each other in the past and it's bound to triple due to this LG autonomy.
4) IT'S A TACTIC FOR THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT TO DISTRACT THE MASSES FROM SERIOUS ISSUES:Now everyone has forgotten about the hunger and inflation ravaging the country and we're now talking about LG autonomy. The government did this out of fear that nigerians might be brewing for protest against bad governance emulating Kenya so they used this to distract the masses and it worked.
Peter obi knows all of these and that's why he didn't congratulate anyone, he'd react to APC dismay when this New policy starts revealing it's dark side.
I'm tired of seeing people blame Peter obi for not congratulating the government when they do something that they should have done since, we're so used to bad governance that we now tell the government thank you when they do what's expected of them. It shows you don't really follow constitution. All LGA in Nigeria will continue to recieve in percentage based on output from LGA to federal. It as all been soon in 1999 before criminals governor start siphoning the money. No LGA will complain. Obia okpor in river is the richest local government and no other local has ever complain about them since 1999, same as Oredo is the richest in Edo state and there are no quarrel about it. What will comes directly to LGA is enough for them to bring development to the grassroot. Edo state government received 55b from federal account for just 2023 and that would not have been share equally, the least LGA in Edo will have close to 2b and it is enough for the chairman to pay salaries and provide projects in 2023. |
