Nwabu007:
Hi, unfortunately the 30 days rule is sacrosanct as long as your I-20 explicitly captures the resumption date. You can be turned back at POE if you enter earlier or later than the date stated on your I-20. Perhaps you can discuss with the International Student Office to capture the Summer resumption date on your I-20, don't know if it's possible though.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Good morning wonderful people...
I must say that this thread is a blessing to many.

Please I would like to ask a question:
I have been given an offer to a school in the US and from my understanding, you should resume about 30 days (or less) before the date issued on your I-20.
My I-20 has already been prepared by the school. Please I would like to ask if it is possible to resume before the 30 days window, as I would like to work with a professor over the summer (June/July) before my school resumes in the last week of August.

Thank you very much.

Good day house.
Please I would appreciate your take on this.
I have started my application for student visa. However the resumption date stated on my application letter has elapsed (it was early January).
Now I got a message from the visa office saying I should submit my passport..
Biko is there any need to tell them that I have been given an extension with respect to my resumption date? Should I submit the email from my school stating my extension or I should keep quiet

Thank you

Some schools take in 2.2...
you just need to package your application well to convince them

Abiodunne:

Sir how sure are you? What lies the fate of sum1 who has a 2.2 and cannot get into masters directly because admission into most Canadian universities are very competitive then goes thru the PGD route with the intention of finally going for a masters?

Hello people.
You all are doing a good jobn on this thread!!! Una welldone oo
Biko I need your advice on a situation, my apologies if this issue has been addressed in a previous thread.

I got accepted into a graduate program in Canda and I have applied for my student visa online. My mistake was that I applied for the visa late. I did my biometric last month and I'm still waiting for CIC's reply.
My dilema is that the deadline for me to report to my school is the end of January (next week to be precise).

I don't know if I could ask the school to communicate with CIC on my behalf, or if another option is available.

Please I would appreciate your advice.
Thank you

Hello
First of all I'd advise to ask if you can apply foe your visa within the US. You could contact the Canadian embassy in the US to clarify this.
If you can, just do it in the US.... You may have to move your return date tho, but my guess is that the processing time should be faster in the US. And if possible, you could move to Canada from the US
Hope this helps....

Lovelywings:
Hi all - first apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I am currently in the US, but will be returning to Nigeria in about a month. I want to start the application for the Canada study visa (got admission to a masters program). But I am not clear on what happens after I submit my application online. How soon can I expect either a request for passport or request for interview from the embassy in Nigeria? This will affect when I submit app (eg. if the request comes 2 months after, I can submit now. If it normally comes within a week of submission, I should wait until I'm about to move to Nigeria). I notice the CIC website states processing time of 18 weeks. Just not clear on where in the process does interaction with the Abuja embassy starts.
Thanks all.

I have. a question for the ogas here. I'm applying to UofOttawa and Mcgill to study a thesis-based course. I've read that one needs to get a supervisor before one can be considered for admission. My question is, is it necessary to have a research topic/proposal before contacting a potential supervisor?. We all know the way education is in Nigeria that is why I want to leave to go and study abroad. No indepth practical knowledge, as a immunologist, I have never viewed a malaria parasite under a microscope. I'm currently confused as I don't know what to do. I just need someone to give a hint on what to do regarding the aforementioned question I asked. Your little input/advice may go a long way helping me out. Thanks in advance

Hello,
Please what schools are you looking at?

Well, I'm only just an admission seeker but have followed this thread for a while. When u get to d visa application stage a PhD will sell better than another msc but that doesn't mean u can't get your TRV with a well packaged application for masters, good sop where u clearly explain to the visa officer why u r going for another masters and not a PhD.
For mine, I started out by googling schools in Canada that offer masters with funding (thesis) in biochemistry (which is my undergraduate course). I came up with McGill, UBC and Toronto. Applied to all three in December and I've started getting feedback from the grad coordinators except Toronto. It's been so difficult securing a positive feedback from supervisors. I dunno if they have prejudice against we Africans. Don't want to dwell on that anyway. I'm still shooting out mails. It's tough work because I have to tailor each mail to suit each faculty member based on their research area. I'm interested in oncology, gene expression and cell biology in that order.

So my advice is just take Ur time and do research online. The schools I applied to I later got to know from guys in this forum that my chances r slim as the competition there is very stiff. So u may want to look for schools at the middle of the ranking cos they might be easier. Write the faculty members of these schools first as you r a PhD applicant. Write a compelling mail to them and share your past works, papers that are related to their field and wait for their feedback. You can always apply when you have secured a supervisor.

All the best fellow eminent!

PS.... UBC doesn't offer biochemistry alone but combine it with Molecular biology. Some schools too are like that. So don't let it put u off its still very much d same as both field are quite interrelated.

Hello freeradical..
I have the same research interest to, with a background in Biochemistry and I've also tried those schools.
Mehn, the challenge is real !!!
Please can I communicate with you via email?

Guys how do I apply for transcript grade to WES economically.

Should I tell WES to send to each of the schools I chose or they should send to me directly.

After which, I send to the school directly.

Is it compulsory I even use WES to convert my GP. Cant I just use my original transcript from Nigeria and UK.

Thanks

Try communicating with the admissions office of the schools you are interested in. Some schools do not require WES.
Just make sure it is compulsory before you use WES.

Hey.
You could also mention any IT experience or job experience you have and skill you might have acquired that are related to the course you are applying to.
It would also help to send a draft to someone else to proof read before you submit it...
