The President of the Federal Republic headed back to his constituency to vote, likewise the Vice President, the Senate President and all members of the Senate, the Speaker of House of Representatives and his colleagues; all of them went back to their various homes to vote and all that were left in the FCT were some federal civil servants, personnel on special duties who cannot leave their duty posts and other residents whose number is not up to that of the smallest state in the Federation.
So, let's be sincere for once what makes the votes of these set of people in Abuja to have weight more than their masters' that returned to their respective constituencies?
As I have said in another thread earlier, the 36 states are the real entities that made up the Federation and in order not to disfranchise those on special duties and the residents of the FCT, the constitution made a provision for them by considering FCT as the 37th state, no more no less.
People should desist from deliberate turning the constitution upside down. Enough is enough.

Let me educate you and your likes this morning The constitution says a presidential candidate has to win the highest number of votes[b/] and also has to [b]win 25% of the votes in not less than 24 states of the federation and the FCT before he/she can be declared the winner. Right?
If you put the second conditional statement up there in another way it will be: the candidate has to win 25% of the votes in not less than 24 states of the federation including/excluding the FCT.
The above statement can only lead to another argument because it can be misinterpreted. How? It simply can mean 1) Election may not hold in the FCT because result there is inconsequential. 2) The people of the FCT have no say on who becomes the president of the country.
So the best that can be adopted of the conditional statements regarding the 25% of the FCT is the one that's being adopted presently by the constitution. If I have 25% in 23 states and the FCT, the two summed together is 24 states which gives me winning. In the other way, if I have my 25% in 24 states already and I don't have 25% in the FCT, I still win.

The eight years most of this present Governors spend, was the same with Pa Awolowo, covering what comprises 8 states nowadays, yet he achieved so much. Most of our present day Governors could not mention one world class company, corporate institution or industry set up to create jobs for teaming youths being turned out year in, year out, by our ivory towers.
Today leaders should at least emulate our late sage foot steps instead of all the temporary empowerment programs (Motor cycle, Keke Napep, Pepper grinding machine, Cassava grinding machine, Deep freezer, Fridge, Clipper etc) being used to cajole the electorates at the turn of election every four years. A time will come in this nation that people aspiring for position must show a well laid out plan before the electorate. The cash and carry politics will fail as it's the practise in developed nation. Let us always look forward to lasting legacies.

Brendaniel: If FCT is treated as a state during elections then Nigeria has short changed the people of FCT, I have explained this already on a thread I created, Abuja does not have the structure of other states politically, remove special privilege and it will hurt them, that was the same thing that made them suffer for ministerial appointments till they fought it to supreme court, remember they don't have governorship election, so the presidential election doubles as their governorship election, you see why it has to be mandatory you get t least 25% there, they also don't have house of assembly election, so you can't treat them as other states.
They need that special privilege if you do not want to short change them, I will be posting a new topic on this issue hopefully this night..

Abuja FCT cannot be more than any state of the Federation in status. Its creation is just for the administrative purposes, and its inclusion in that section of the Constitution is just not to deprive its residents of their civil responsibilities else the thirty-six states are the real issue.
