Hello guys! I must commend the richness of this thread, you guys are really doing a great job.
I currently have an issue at hand, my Visa was denied on November 27 and I need to reapply. I have a Research Assistantship offer, which covers my tuition fee and living expenses. I believe the reason for the denial could have been that I didn't present an evidence to show that I would be back to Nigeria after my PhD program. It's a pity I had the document right there with me but there was no cause for me to present it as the conversation with the VO was smooth without her requesting for any supporting document. I was able to establish that I am currently an Assistant Lecturer in a Federal University here in Nigeria. Perhaps, I should have been forward enough to present the letter of introduction I got from my Registrar.
The issue now is that I need to resume latest by January 06, 2020 and the only feasible location now is Abuja but my Ds-160 was initially filled using Lagos.
I humbly request for your kind response on the following:

1.) Do I need to revisit my Ds-160 and change the location to Abuja?

2.) Does changing interview location affect my chances?

3.) Do I still qualify to request for an emergency date, since I used it for my last appointment.

As for your Q3, the rule for getting an expedited appointment is that the said applicant must have NOT been refused a visa within the last 6 months.

With resumption on Jan 3, can one go for visa interview the day before (Jan 2)?

Also, having been delayed visa at the embassy once (about a year ago), is rescheduling possible?

Soliciting the advice of this great house:

I have PhD admission to a US school (Information systems program, for Spring 2020). Before I put in my application, I contacted a POI via mail, asking for an opportunity to work in his lab while also stating my research interest. He replied in the affirmative, asking that I let him know when/if admitted. I have contacted him twice now, after securing the admission (since the last week of September). Surprisingly, no replies or acknowledgement from him yet. Going by the budget of the department(according to the grad program cord), TAs cannot be awarded "as of today". This means I am left with securing RA if I am to get any funding whatsoever.

What do I do now? Time is fast running out!! In order not to come out as desperate, I chose not to contact other professors as they could occasionally have discussions amongst themselves. I tire! Now, I'm having second thoughts. Funding is key! Na PhD ohhh

Your incisiveness/intelligence (in certain issues ofcourse) is a function of the family you were born into and your upbringing (of which you had no prior influence over!). You could have been the other person whose comments you dismiss with a shrug. Above all, what matters is your relationship with God. Life is transient. Let's be family!

Going forward, I think we should give silent treatments to demeaning comments...

So graduate coordinator sends out an email asking if one would be joining the program come Fall 2019 (more like a broadcast email to all students admitted to the program). Meanwhile, attending the school is solely dependent on obtaining a GA or some form of funding at least. What is the best reply to give the grad cord in this situation?

P. S. Assistantship application has been duely submitted well over a month ago. Grad cord is aware, and when confronted on the GA award timeline sometime ago, all he said was "you will be notified if GA is awarded".

On Friday night, i became restless when one of my friends got his third acceptance with full funding in Chemistry while none of my applications have made a decision. I was like, "is it that they are not seeing my application?" I just turned off my data and slept off. So i woke up yesterday morning and turned on my data only to receive two emails from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute that i have been admitted for their PhD in Chemical Engineering with full mouth watery funding.
Am super excited about the offer! But i am still waiting for Ga Tech and Minnesota so i will just wait.
Fall2019, we're going somewhere.

I got admitted into a school in the US for fall 2018. I-20 was processed but was not parceled down to Naija, although SEVIS number and school code were emailed to me in order to fast-track the visa application process and all. I ended up deferring the admission to 2019. Now, I have been admitted into another University for Spring 2019 of which i am bent on attending. Do I have to transfer my SEVIS number? If yes, what is the process?

**Visa application was not initiated. I only generated a payment coupon on the fmjfee website, but ended up not paying the SEVIS fee at the time (since resumption date was around the corner...)
