PoliticsRe: What Do Igbos Of SE Really Want? Biafra, President, Referendum Or Restructuring? by Kellzcold: 8:43am On Jun 19, 2022
Restructuring. Let every region have more responsibility to govern and manage it's resources, so that we can hold our governors or regional leaders responsible for faliure instead of disturbing president for everything.

See security issues, see electricity, see infrastructure (federal roads).
These critical issues that affect the masses directly are under the Federal government and they have failed massively in this. If the states or regions were allowed to control security, killings in Owo would have not happened. Poverty would have been lower because the masses will protest against all the bad leaders in their region without the politicians using tribal and ethnic sentiments to deceive the masses.

So hopefully we can have a good leader that cares about the masses in 2023 and will create policies that help the masses directly.

What kind of Economic principle can justify this? "it is all about the greatest good for the greatest number". You guys are better off while the masses are worse off. Any economic progress that does not improve the welfare of the people is useless, if you like save $50trillion, as far as it cannot create jobs and reduce poverty, it is useless.
This is exactly what I don't understand.... Where are all these money going into? Infrastructure? Relief programmes? Construction? Salary? Projects??
No one is seeing this money. Even people in the civil service say there's no money to start any project or to function... So where's all the so called recovered money?

Yujin:
A general revolution in this Nigeria is impossible. The present youths are not united and can never be. The reason is not farfetched as its obvious our world view are far apart. For the east, we can go against the criminal politicians among us in less than two weeks of agreement but that cannot be said for the west and north where there's near worship of rulers(politicians). Again, the desires of the three constituents of Nigeria defers. We from the east appreciates monetary gifts in our times of challenges but seek true self sufficiency and will reject the change offered to us if we do not see any sincerity in our leaders giving us opportunity in achieving self sustenance. The same cannot be said of our compatriots from the other regions. Without a uniformity of mindset, no revolution can succeed. True revolution rejects monetary inducements and withstands the brutality of the security personnels which of course would be sent to quash it. Can the present lily livered youths resist the murderous Nigerian Army? Can the hypocrites who chaired the blood loving maniacs of the Nigeria Army on their killing spree of unarmed biafran agitators stand firm when the nozzle is turned their way? I only laugh at those calling for a revolution in this evil Nigeria. You guys can't do nothing. Like others have said, ordinary good gestures from some folks have made a lot of guys forget the goal our the present struggle. How then can you withstand the bucks loaded politicians and the brutal zombies in uniform? Lol. Just continue dying in silence or make a plan and jet out of the hopeless contraption called Nigeria and hope that by the time you will be returning back, that some herdsmen from Libya won't have occupied your ancestral land after sacking your family members. There's no single thing you benefit from Nigeria yet you are here praising one Nigeria. Any entity that does not exist for the benefit of its people does not worth catering for.
Where in my post did I praise Nigeriahuh?
Anyways, I support federalism where the center has less power than the regions. Britain did this with England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all have autonomy but they are all British. It works smoothly for them and will work for us if we can be educated to know what federalism is about. Breaking away is impossible in this nation without bloodshed which I am strongly against.

Like you said, each regions have their own interests. The north don't care if herdsmen are killing people in Enugu, the north don't care if kidnapping is rampant in the south south, the whole south don't care if bokoharam is disturbing the northeast and so on. This makes it hard for a proper revolution or protest to happen nationwide. But there is now a common problem for all youths in every region, this is unemployment. 50% unemployment means that at this rate, in a few years people will still be in their fathers house at 30. Frustration against the politicians who steal all our wealth and still put their children in power again is bound to set in.
People said revolution is impossible in Tunisia and Egypt but it happened, its very possible in Nigeria. I've never seen frustration on this level from Nigerians as I've been seeing recently.

Mathemagician1:
You don't seem to get it, do you? NANS have been compromised, Labour has been compromised, every activist can be compromised in Nigeria. Believe in these organisations at your own peril. Just see what sharing of N5000 did to a revolutionary call. Now imagine how much the politicians can mobilise and share to shut up protesting Nigerians.

You can as well wonder why there can never be a revolution in Nigeria. Nigerians are cheapskates, narrow minded and can be easily distracted. Nigerians in general are self centred, greedy and lacks the ability of foresight. To put it more aptly, Nigerians lack the ability to see beyond today, hence posterity always suffers.

Someone even quoted me to remind me of what N5000 can do in the life of a Nigerian. He insisted that we should worry about today and let tomorrow worry about itself.

How did I end up in this God forsaken place for Christ sake? Where the rational thinking capability of the people is approaching negative infinity.
Exactly. 5,000 will finish in 5 days and your back to begging the next person.
This 5000 does not solve the 50% unemployment among youths in Nigeria, this does not remedy the fact that I know a lot of people who have spent 5 years after school without a job, this does not remedy the fact that even ordinary light for people to console themselves is so bad.
That is why we vote in foolish politicians into power. No debates or exclusive explanation from the politician to tell us how he's going to use his position to better our lives, we just vote in who gives us 5,000 and bag of rice. After that money finishes the stupid politician gets power and collects back ten times the money he spent on you from the government.
50% unemployment rate for youths is not a small matter, Kidnapping has already been on the increase in the north due to hardship, very soon violence will become the norm and the targets will be the politicians who we remember their names.

For those calling for a bloody revolution, take note.

it is not all rich men that looted state funds, that thread highlighted the growing deep seated hatred some poor people have for hardworking, law abiding rich people who are totally unaware of the former.

This explains the recent upsurge in crime across Nigeria.

Kidnapping is now quite common up north as it in the south.
Then the politicians better do something about it, and those rich with influence better talk some sense into the politicians. Because the day there is a proper revolution, with youths who have the guts and energy to go the distance, not even the innocent rich will be spared, because no one will know who stole or not.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Has Finished Me: Lessons Learnt by Kellzcold: 10:46pm On Jul 08, 2016
Mathemagician1:
On the contrary. What I saw on that thread was a proof of Nigerians narrow mindedness with a crave for quick fix. It was a clear indication that Nigerians are OK with the crumbs they get from the politicians and it shows just how the politicians exploit the people by keeping them in abject poverty and giving them crumbs from time to time whenever they cry for a revolution.

The Op spoke deeply about the insensitivity of the Government to the plight of the people. Kind of like a revolutionary call that normally would ignite fierce anger in our mind. But Nigerians being Nigerians hijacked the thread and turned it into a jamboree. Nothing is taken seriously in this country.

Out of the blue someone offered to donate N5000 to 2 people, another person offered N4000 each to 5 people while someone else offered 50,000 to 10 people and it went on and on like a bonanza, completely defeating the essence of the thread. What fuckeryhuh

After these generous donations have been exhausted then what? Does it solve the problem of unemployment the OP talked about? Does it solve the hunger or curb inflation? Is N5000 what Nigerian graduates need to start up a business. Nigerians are truly very narrow minded, majority of the people lack critical thinking skills.

Such a pathetic situation we've found ourselves.
Exactly. The donations were very good gestures by some people but many now forgot the essence of the thread which is unemployment.
Nigerian leaders are joking with the youths, how can someone stay 5 years without jobhuh? The day there is a proper revolutionary riot, no rich looter will be spared.

I'm not claiming anything. Calabar and akwaibom are niger-delta because they have oil, just as imo state and ondo is niger-delta too because they have oil but they are not south-south, so how can calabar be south south when they are on the far eastern side of the Nigerian map. They're closer to the Igbo states than southern part of Nigeria.
I'm not claiming anything, I'm just stating an obvious fact from one look at the map of our country.

YoursGEJ:
Don't they also want all corruption charges against ND politicians who stole money to be dropped?

The problem of the Niger Delta is found in their own house. These states get 13% derivation from crude oil sales. Before you say that is not enough, just look at the infrastructure that has been developed by Akwa Ibom (good roads everywhere, world-class hospital and stadium) and Cross River states (Tinapa, Obudu, etc). You'll rarely hear of militant/criminal activities in these two states

Ok lets look at Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states where militancy is concentrated. These states are the highest beneficiaries from the 13% derivation rule, collecting trillions of Naira since it was implemented. Do you hear of life-changing infrastructure being built with the money? No. What we hear is Alamesigha dressed as a woman to escape bail from UK, Peter Odili granted perpetual injunction against arrest, James Ibori in jail in UK for money laundering (forfeiting hundreds of millions of pounds meant to develop his state to the UK that does not even need the money), etc. Furthermore, their own son was president for six years and he could not implement a single project in his entire geographical zone not to talk of his state belente his own village.

Yet, criminals from these particular three states (Delta being the main one), continue to blame 'lack of federalism' while asking for corruption charges to be dropped against people who stole money that is enough to turn the ND into a paradise. Akwa Ibom and Cross River are leaving you people behind and I don't see the same 'lack of federalism' holding them back. SMH.

If you give Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa their own country, their leaders will loot their own people dry and they'll still blame the poor Hausa man in Bauchi who's farming onions. People in the ND need to hold their leaders accountable while also looking in the mirror.

Rant over
Akwaibom and crossriver are located in the southeast of Nigeria's map. They were made south-south because of political manipulations when calabar was a main base in the former eastern region. Akwaibom and calabar have more in common with Igbos than Edo and the rest of south-south...

The best article I have read in Nigeria. And thats an understatement.
Intelligent piece. I would love to meet the writer.
I have learned a million things. Very insightful.

If only we can understand our history it would help put context to why things are as rotten as they are in the country.

Sadly, nothing would change probably until everybody loses complete interest in everything as it is, then maybe the real questions would begin to be asked.
Exactly this. It's just sad that many will ignore this and write it off as rubbish.
We need to understand our history to become better. We need to understand the mistakes we made in the past so that the future generations don't repeat them but instead make the system better.
The tribe problem of our country can only be solved by breaking into regions. A lot of people are not in support of it because of lack of understanding but this will reduce the burden on the federal government drastically. If every region has their own inspector general of police, the police won't have to wait for so long to receive orders from above to stop market riots in lagos or stop herdsmen attacking communities in Ekiti or Enugu. If every region has their own minister of transport, a southwest transport minister can handle the fourth mainland bridge in lagos while the southeast minister of transport can handle the niger-delta bridge. The effect of division of labour which is done in successful private companies will come to effect in the government system, every part of Nigeria will experience development instead of just former capital Lagos and current capital Abuja. Even the national assembly members will be paid according to what their regional zone makes, no more excess allowance that we can't afford. This will almost eliminate the huge division which the former colonial leaders did to us because there won't be so much corruption to get my Hausa brother into work because I don’t like a southerner.
This will also reduce the power of the president so that when someone wins president, he won't have enough influence to move the whole power to his tribe, because the regions control their own matters.
The issue of lack of ideas starts from how we even vote these people into power. No debate to find out which contestants have better solutions to our problems, we just vote because it is the turn of another tribe to be in power. So sad really....
Religious activities also contributed to division among Nigerians, but it is okay except the very violent ones who will behead someone because they insulted your prophet.
I just hope things get better, we're so far behind our potential, it's unbelievable.

It was clearly political manipulation. Any level minded person that looks at the map of Nigeria, will question why crossriver is a south-south state instead of Southeast.

Exactly. There's a difference between oil producing states and South south states.
For example, edo people has more in common with southwest than crossrivers people who have more in common with Igbos.
The south south states are majorly Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta. Except for a few communities in delta(Anioma) and Rivers(Ikwere) who have more in common with Igbos including similar language.

PoliticsRe: No Confab Report, No Nigeria, Falae Insists by Kellzcold: 1:35pm On May 31, 2016
freeze001:
I had my reasons for asking you if you had any idea of the contents of that report. Your response here shows you don't. You see, Nigeria's first problem is her constitution. Chapter II tells of all the duties owed the citizens by the government yet prevents citizens from being able to question the failure of the government to meet these fundamental duties because the court is expressly robbed of that power.

The CONFAB effectively recommends a decentralised government with the regions responsible for their funding and development with agreed shares to the centre. The reason states are in dire straits and unable to pay salaries is that their major source of income, oil, hit the rocks due to price crashes along with kleptomaniac leaders/thieves in power from time immemorial. Now with self development which the CONFAB recommends, there will almost immediate diversification of the economy which the FG has never been successful in. This must happen because not all regions have oil...simple! Therefore they must discover and develop what they do have. Regions having to cater for themseves in smaller units will decide how many administrative units or lgas they need, no more arbitrary creation by the NASS.

The National Assembly is also recommended by the CONFAB to be on part time basis with allowances paid per sitting. This will definitely reduce the amount they control now. With six regions, there will be no need for the over bloated number of NASS members we have now and they will be paid by their regional govts to represent them at the centre.

Developmental needs will be met faster because a lot of things on the Executive list will be shed and the Central govt will mainly control external security covering the Army, Navy and Air Force, foreign/external relations, minting and printing of currency, inter state roads, railways etc. Policing will be purely regional for internal security. A region can easily partner with investors and build refineries, seaports, airports, other critical infrastructure, control and operate them and thus generate revenue for itself.

I cannot go on and on here cos there's so many details but hopefully this gives u an idea. So yes, our current system of govt encourages too much corruption and being as far removed/isolated from the people as they are, it is difficult to demand accountability. And so to answer your questions, it is implementation of CONFAB that will change the mind of those blowing up our pipelines; demand good governance and accountability for all Nigerians as a matter of law and necessity; make Bayelsa, Ekiti, Osun, Yobe, Imo and all other states self sufficient enough to pay salaries and develop speedily and stop us from paying our legislators the highest salary in the world.

The recommendations of the CONFAB do not favour any political party or region so it has nothing to do with PDP.
I'm surprised this hasn't gotten many quotes, this explains everything perfectly. The confab report is good for all Nigerians except political thieves. This is not a Pdp or Apc matter.
