hmmm, I was in your gfs shoes some few years ago. I don't think she is as scared as I was. na me be last born for house. I was still in the University too. an "experienced " friend took me to a pharmacy where I paid 700 for injection to abort (my 300 change still dey the man hand sha cos na 1k I give am, lol). the pharmacist even gave me one better lie to tell my oga so I'll go through with it.
as I was heading back to the pharmacist to be injected, my oga called me and said "don't do it". I still don't know how he knew where I was going but I got down from the bus and went back home and that was the end. that baby today is now 5 years old, very smart, handsome and cute. my life's better with him. my oga was also very scared then but he said he'll never abort his child for any reason.
Be firm and stand your ground. Inform her parents too or a close friend or her fave sibling. Yoruba's say "oro ti a ni ki baba ma gbo, baba lo ma pada pari e". |

nurey: Yes you can move from rest with gear 2, but the rpm for movement is around 1500 to 2000rpm.
Yes you can mention me anytime, I will assist any way I can.
Don't rush to be a pro, just take it one by one, am sure if you drive a manual as a daily driver in less than a year you will do wonders on the road. OK, I'll really wish to be a pro soon. I was driving today and someone coming from behind was just blaring his horns like a mad man because he saw the "L" sign on my car, and he stopped after he passed me. I was wondering what he wanted me to do, jump into the gutter I guess. And the road na double lane expressway o, d tin pain me no be small. Thanks and sorry for my rants, lol. |

revolt: depends on the speed. Basically gear selection is centred on reducing engine load or stress while attaining or maintaining maximum speed and thrust. For any experienced driver, its easy to determine the appropriate gear for particular sppeds but since ure a learner pls downshift systematically so u don't destroy ur clutch n gearbox. Capish Advice noted, thanks a lot! |
Car Talk › Re: How Hard Is It To Drive A Manual Car In Lagos by kendraloops: 7:50pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
nurey: your addition of neutral to the mix is quite funny, reminds me of the first day i actually played arcade game with steering wheel and manual gear. it would even be more funny watching you change gear in 1 minute
I change gear in nano seconds, so i dont know whether i even touch neutral at all, you disengage gear with clutch and switch to desired side and engage gear again i doubt if it goes through neutral (though i may be wrong).
So onto next lesson you can move a car at rest with gear 1 or 2, but the design is to move with gear 1, when you become a pro, you will ditch gear 1 especially in traffic. Gear 3, 4, 5 to infiniti will not move the car but stall the engine.
Now when upshifting you can skip gears but to be on a safer side i found that for a five speed manual, gear 4 is the most useless gear i have ever come across it serves me no important purpose so you can move your gear in this order 1 to 2 to 3 you can skip 4 and jump onto 5, i have not driven manual gear with settings more than 5, iknow benz, bmw and some high end sports car have upto 6 manual gear settings.
When you skip an important gear like jumping from 1 straight to any higher gear (3,4,5 to infiniti), you are stressing the engine as you will notice the car doesnt get upto speed as intended besides some gear to me are of importance
Gear 1= The gear of unlimate momentum Gear 2= Keeping the momentum stable Gear 3= The baba of all gear, used in showcasing the prowess of your engine if you intend to a) overtake b) bringout the power in the engine (incase you intend to street race) Gear 4= Owanbe Gear 5= To maintain the maximum engine and gear power (especially during highway driving) looooool, see as you finish me and my neutral gear shifting. it's OK though, I'm gonna be a pro soon. by my neutral talk though, I mean you'll still pass through neutral na even if it's for a nano millisecond but I must say, this explanation is deep. now I truly understand a whole lot, seems I wasted cash for that my driving school o. I wasn't taught this much at all. thank you so very much. so one can move from rest with gear 2? Probably there's a technique to it that I don't know yet as I've tried it but motor nor move. the car just revs, like when you clutch down and accelerate together. You are very right about gear 3, that one na baba gear. very strong. I'm definitely taking a screenshot of this for constant reading, I really do appreciate it a lot!!! hope I can mention you anytime I have further questions please? |
Car Talk › Re: How Hard Is It To Drive A Manual Car In Lagos by kendraloops: 3:24pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
nurey: ok lets take it one at a time. its perfectly safe to switch from gear 5 straight to any lower gear of your choice, its the current car speed that will determine whether engine will be affected or not. example if you are doing 80km/h in gear 5 and you decelerate to 20km/h and you intend to cruise or accelerate again, it is safe to switch from gear 5 straight to gear 2 you dont necessarily have to switch to 4 then switch to 3 then switch to 2. Nod your head if you got this Ehen! this is much better, been nodding since, lol. my driving school Instructor was the one who filled my head with downshifting the way you came up and it affects me a lot so I ditched it and tried doing things my way, was just worried if I was doing it wrongly but now I know I'm not. thanks for the clarification. but I guess same can't be said for upshifting right? from 1 to neutral to 3 to neutral to 5 is a no abi? |
Car Talk › Re: How Hard Is It To Drive A Manual Car In Lagos by kendraloops: 3:09pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
nurey: No you dont need to downshift in that order, there is a sync between driver and car which enables you to determine what gear to use. The RPM i change gear is 3 and the earliest is around 2.2 depending on what i am doing.
depending on the speed of the car after you slow down and about to takeoff, that is what will determine the gear you will take off on, i dont expect a good driver to take off at gear 4 or 5 when the speed is just 40km/h and the rpm is 1500. So when slowing down and you change gear from 5 to any lower gear immediately has no effect on the gear. (will not damage anything)
but when you are around 80km/h, and you disengage the gear (clutching down) and re=engage gear 1 at same speed the car will go to a state called engine braking (rev jumps up and engine makes loud continuous sound and car begins to slow down), engine braking is ok as long as you dont always let the rpm jump to or close to the red zone OK, thanks a lot though I still have a lot to learn as I barely understood your reply, lol. it was quite technical for me. I understand some points though especially the last paragraph, explains quite a lot I experience. thanks once again. |

revolt: with thus your statement you clearly don't know how to drive manual . The only time u probably drove a manual was in driving school ( those clumsy teachers, that don't even know the tricks of up shifting or down shifting .). hello sir. your post caught my attention. I want to know if it's OK to downshift from say like gear 5 to neutral and then gear 1. does it have any negative effect on the clutch or something? summary.... must I downshift the same way I went up I. e from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1? still a learner though and I get quite confused with this aspect. thanks sir. |

I learnt this year Jan/Feb and I've been driving for a month or so, though I never go far distance as my hubs doesn't trust me yet.
Whilst learning, I began to wonder how people make calls and drive at the same time!! I troway cap for them. You need all your senses and then some. I still have little challenges sha especially with moving again from gear 1 after I might have stopped at a T junction or traffic light, motor go just dey off and that's quite embarrassing. you're already under tension, then people behind you will start to horn and curse like mad!!
it's fun though, I totally love it. but I wasn't taught any thing mechanical. I just enter car and drive. I don't know what to look out for before starting the car or things to check. as I dey here so, I no sabi wetin radiator, gasket, fan belt etc be. I'm trying to learn online though. |

To my dismay he came with some other guy and claimed he lost the phone with the sum of N4000. I had to involve more elderly people who successfully adviced him against the N4000 claim.
