PoliticsRe: My Encounter With Captain Buhari by kernel504(m): 12:38pm On Mar 16, 2015
kahal29:
The Nigerian Civil War ended on January 15, 1970. Naturally, Nigerian soldiers occupied every part of Igbo land and used school premises as their make-shift barracks. Less malnourished young men were suspected to be defunct Biafran soldiers and some ladies suffered at the hands of the rampaging soldiers.

My village, Umueleke, in Ehime Mbano of Imo State, was one of the communities occupied by the Nigerian soldiers with their natural provocative utterances. The village shares a common boundary with Mbaise in Imo State, where we assumed to be the operational headquarters of the Nigerian soldiers within our area during that period.

On a certain day in March 1970, one of our brothers that fled Lagos to Biafra with his new car, but could not use same during the war for fear of being confiscated by Biafran Soldiers, perfectly concealed same throughout the period of the Civil War. He brought out the car in March of the same year and drove same to our market square where the soldiers were stationed.

Unfortunately, the soldiers harassed him out of the car and confiscated same, luckily for him there was a divine intervention as the crowd of onlookers saw a convoy coming from the Mbaise axis of our community and suddenly a young and slim officer alighted from the military jeep. He enquired why the crowd gathered and why the man was weeping; the man informed him of how the soldiers had beaten him up and confiscated his car.

The slim officer was a captain with his name-tag Buhari. The officer reminded the people that the war had ended and such thing should not happen. He quickly ordered for the release of the car and also reprimanded the soldiers and as a result, our community enjoyed the usual freedom.

When he became the Head of State, I discovered from his facial appearance that it was the same Buhari that showed human concern to our brother.

But since Buhari indicated interest in ruling the country once again, I have read many commentaries on the pages of newspapers and electronic media that are very uncomplimentary about his life and I wonder whether it is the same Buhari I met in 1970 who was full of passion for people.

However, from my encounter with GMB then, I came to the conclusion that he is not only humane, but a stickler for justice as demonstrated by his insistence that my brother’s car is returned immediately and which the soldiers did. That he ordered that the car be returned and the soldiers involved in such act be detained for stepping beyond their bounds depicted Buhari as a compassionate man and a disciplinarian who abhors maltreating innocent civilians. After all, Buhari could have joined forces with his men to confiscate the car, but he did not because he believed that the war had ended and people should be set free form bondage and discrimination. But he said “mbanau ooo!”

Of course, the lessons learnt from the above are: that a leader must stand for justice at all times; that a leader must take a decision when necessary; that a leader must instil discipline in his lieutenants; that not all Northern soldiers were wicked after the war and that GMB is misrepresented by many Nigerians who see him as evil and tribalistic.

Indeed, from the lessons, one can deduce that GMB is far better than our South-South brothers who confiscated our property immediately after the war and nicknamed it ‘abondoned property’ particularly in Rivers and Bayelsa. Many Igbos died while in pursuit of their legitimate rights over their property. My family members were victims and I nearly lost my life.. Again, I think some Igbos are still at war with Buhari, 45 years after the war ended. So, if by divine act, Buhari wins, what will be the fate of Igbos.?

.Barrister Onyebueke is the former Vice-Chairman,

http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=109383
Barrister Onyebueke, thanks for sharing your experience of Gen. Buhari .
I need not remind you that, the Igbo tribe is a fearless tribe. After the Nigeria Biafra War, No regime has favoured the Igbos more than Jonathan's administration. Obasanjo's trade policies hampered the Igbos to a stand still. The Hausa man has never been Igbo man's friend from time immemorial, they have Igbophobia just like some others.
I stand to be corrected inspite of all the challenges facing the Igbo man in Nigeria, it is only the Yoruba man that seems to have what it takes to stand him.
Today, we have our sons and daughters registered in various spheres of live as champions, starting from Sports, Broadcasting, Economics, Inventions and Intellectuals all over the world on merit not on Appointment.
So... We don't need Buhari to be better, thanks.

Nigeria would have been a better place if there is mutual respect among the ethnic groups. On a serious note the only thing that can guarantee mutual respect among nigerians is restructuring of the country into zones.
After creating the division, is too late.
Hausa created them months before Nigeria Biafra War aimed towards division among the then Eastern states.

Secondly, l see why Kenya wanted to delist from ICC, if they are credible as portrayed, they should prosecute George Bush and Tony Blair for invading Iraq without any permition from UN.

TV/MoviesRe: Television Politics: Five Years Later DSTV Is Still Yet To Launch Igbo Channel by kernel504(m): 4:53pm On Mar 09, 2015

No disrespect to the igbos. I love igbos. Truth be told, there aren't enough content to air. There is an igbo channel on startimes, and they barely have anything interesting to put on, and it is characterised by repititions. If dstv were to eventually open an Ndigbo channel, I am sure even igbos will get bored after a while.

Popular Igbo Nollywood actors have to forget all the pure English movies they act in. Promote their culture to the world. Most Indian actors speak good English, but they still stick to their language in movies, and theybare respected everywhere. Every week, at least 15 yoruba movies are released, Even though half of them are nonsense, it still gives room for options. Igbos should release as many as possible too.

I would be glad, if they can work on this, and produce plenty many Igbo movies. Maybe from there, I will learn enough Igbo to woo Chinweizu(my life long crush).
Am an Igbo guy, you are on point...#Respect

combat boko haram weeks ago with which weapon? For over 20years Nigerian government did not buy any new weapons & hardwares for the military. USA refused to sale to us hardwares & also stopped their allies from to selling to us. The same USA went ahead to label our soldiers “weak.“

Sir are you not in this country seing how hardwares & weapons are coming into this nation for past 4weeks? Did you think that the deals that brought about buying new weapons happen over night? No sir they took months of nagations & shiping.

The tide turned against boko haram when Nigeria decided to start buying weapons even from countries under UN/EU sanctions.

I still doubt if Chadian president would say such a thing now the war is still going on. I have a feeling that someone is trying to bring Nigeria & Chad into a row & mistrust which will bring infighting & that will make the insurgents to regroup & get stronger.

We should read in between lines & think when we read.
Brothers, that's what we are. We may belong to different parties,religion,tribe... But we are one nation, one people.
Out of a total budget of N4.962 trillion, the allocation to the defence sector took about N968.127 billion. That's just for 2014 only, almost a trillion Naira. Now, can we say that Boko Haram enjoys more fund that Nigeria military, how come we complain of outdated weaponry with such amount for just a year?
Secondly, if Boko Haram can afford to procure weapons from any source, what excuse will a legally independent constituted state like Nigerians say? Ban from a fellow independent state,no!!! Come on... When Syria government experienced same, did they complain, no!!! They simply turned to Russia and China, today America is backing Syrian government again to fight ISIL.

The police in Ipaja-Ayobo area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have arrested a man
who allegedly defiled eight children. He is now being detained, awaiting arraignment in
court. The suspect, Mr. Temitope Alo was arrested on Saturday at Koloba area of Ayobo after the
children allegedly confessed that he had raped them. The eight kids raped by one man. The eight victims, whose ages range from eight to 15 years were brought to the Lagos
State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA yesterday by the Vice
Chairman, Ipaja-Ayobo Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Alhaja Falilat Ajijola to
enable the state government to take over the case. The victim said he works for a newspaper company (name withheld) in Lagos and
allegedly lured the children to his apartment where he defiled them and threatened to
kill them if they reported the matter. Tests conducted on the eight children at the Ayobo-Ipaja Primary Health Centre, PHC,
showed that the children had been defiled. A top official of the WAPA Ministry told P.M.NEWS that the ministry had been handling
rape cases but they had never recorded a case where a man serially raped eight children. The news of the rape caused a stir at the WAPA ministry as the staff rained curses on the
alleged rapist. According to the Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA Vice Chairman, Ajijola, last week a case of rape was
reported to the Neighbourhood Watch office at the council but when enquiries were
made, the traditional ruler of Koloba was said to have denied that such a thing happened
in his area. She said a few days later, the former council chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja, Bisi Yusuf
reported that the incident actually happened and that further investigation traced the
rape case to the culprit, who was promptly arrested. Ajijola added that the traditional ruler, Chief Babayanju, later opened up and admitted
that the story was true, while eight children came forward to report that they were
allegedly raped by Alo. The vice chairman said the children were taken to the PHC in the area where tests were
conducted on them and it was confirmed that the children had been defiled. Two children of a community leader in the area were among the victims. Chairman, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, Alhaji Shakiru Adisa Yusuf said he was shocked when he
heard the story, adding that such a person is worse than an animal. “I was shocked because I am also a parent. Why must he go after innocent children?
Such people should not live in this community,” he said, adding that the council would
pursue the case to ensure that justice was done. “We will collect the tests conducted on the children and hand them over to the state
government. We will pursue the case to a logical conclusion. This man has brought
disgrace to this community,” he said. Acting Director, Child Development, WAPA Ministry, Mrs Mosunmola Dada said the issue
was disgusting, adding that such a man must be a paedophile and vowed that the
government would ensure that he was prosecuted. “We have evidences against him. The Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA has a medical report on this
case. We will monitor and follow up this case,” she said. The suspect, in his statement at the Ayobo Police Station, was said to have admitted that
he raped some children, but that he only raped four and not eight. P.M.NEWS could not get to him as he was in custody of the police, while the Divisional
Police Officer, DPO of the station was not around for comments. One of the victims, an eight years old girl (name withheld) told P.M.NEWS that the
suspect told them to help him arrange newspapers in his apartment, adding that, “after
that, he told us to go into the next room. “He asked us to remove our panties and I asked him what he wanted to do to us. He laid
me on the bed and defiled me four times. He covered our mouths with white
handkerchief and threatened to kill us if we report,” she said. Another victim, a 12 years old girl (name withheld) alleged that the suspect “licked my
private part. He called me and my friend in. He asked me to bring N100 fufu for him,
which I brought. While I was waiting for the money with my friend, he asked my friend
whether she could keep a secret. “He asked me to pull off my panties but I did not answer and he forced me and licked
my private part while he slept with my friend and defiled her too. He gave us N50. I told
my friend that I will tell my mummy, but he threatened to kill us if we told anybody.”
