Health / Re: Naira Scarcity: Death Figures Spike In Hospitals by kevoh(m): 5:50pm On Feb 12, 2023
The news article reeks of propaganda and sensationalism. If the Fulani woman selling Fura de nunu around my place of work(airport) is accepting transfer of #400 for sale of nunu, why will hospitals, a bigger entity, not accept transfers?

I might be getting a bit old to understand such things but how do you oppress with a phone? I can agree using a car or a house to "oppress" others because, out of experience, I know what it takes to maintain them. But a phone? I fail to see the oppression. How does this oppression work?

If the old naira note exceed 25th, then the purpose of the new naira note is worthless and useless. This means, CBN/FG are MAD
That's the point of these whole gymnastics the people who took the case to supreme court are doing. All the court needs to do is keep adjourning the case till after elections which is the reason CBN, which is the main actor, was not added in the case because it will be struck out immediately.

Fear not! CBN will accept your 50k old notes whenever you return to Nigeria even if it's next year, along with some documentations like tax proof, your business and so on!

cashless is the way to go but not not all phones are NFC enabled especially the transsision phones and non-internet enabled phones AKA torchlight phones that most people use..
Smartphones is even going too far and might be complex for average user. Just an NFC payment card is OK. The card is preloaded with money and you just tap the authenticating device for payment, shikena!

erniok:

CBN should adopt a pragmatic approach that targets the market women and the transport business and see how everyone will follow suit when the aforementioned are in it.
I agree. CBN, NURTW, market unions can work together.

Make bus and keke cards that use NFC(Near Field Communication) to complete transactions just by tapping another device. It does not even depend on network or internet. Same cards can be replicated for paying in markets and smaller shops.

Old technology existing in Nigeria for ages but because we are stubborn and like stress, we stuck to using cash for virtually everything, we continue to complain about scarce notes. If I talk now, someone will come and be giving me poor excuse of how one grandma in the village does not have network or bank account!
Business / Re: Prices Of Cattle Crash In Taraba Due To Naira Scarcity by kevoh(m): 7:34pm On Feb 01, 2023
This is 2023! They should learn to operate/use bank accounts for transactions! Illiteracy is not an excuse not to open a bank account and receive transfers! Neither will CBN renege on this policy! They can cry blue murder from now till they kingdom come expecting cash payment but the only thing they will get is the continuous fall in price of their cows. They are even lucky theirs is not perishable farm produce like tomatoes!

How is the system over ready? Can you pls explain?

If you say people are stubborn is by forcing them or helping them to see why they should switch from cash to cashless?

How many "stubborn people" were forced to use ATM cards?

Why create chaos and suffering because you want people to go cashless?

How did you come to the conclusion that "nobody seems to want to use" banks e-channels? Is that what the banks told you?
If you don't want to use cashless options, no big deal. You still have other options :
1. Keep complaining about "Chaos and suffering"
2. Pay 25% fee to collect new notes from POS or stick to using old notes that will soon be rendered invalid by Feb 10.
3. Stay long hours on ATM queues to withdraw max 20k if you are lucky the ATM dispenses.

Whatever you choose from the 3 options to do your day-to-day transactions is none of my business at the end of the day. Last, Last everyone will be alright months from now!

Do you know how transfers have been failing for the past few days? .
Well, I've been doing transfers for as little as #500 since Friday and mine has not failed! Failed transfers are still a very poor excuse and will not make CBN change its mind. Find something more convincing!

dustmalik:

The whole system is not ready for the new policy, yet you idiots think it will only affect politicians who intend to buy votes.
System is over ready! You people are just too stubborn to switch to cashless! Nigerian banks even have applications like scanning qr codes existing for years, that do not depend on network for transactions but nobody seems to want to use them. Always arguing and giving poor excuses to remain in cave era!

dustmalik:

I don't blame idiots like you. If we check now, you probably don't have up to 10k in your account.
What's wrong with having only 10k in my account! Is it not money I worked for?

The earlier you people realise CBN is going to make these new notes scarce even after Feb 10, the better for you! You can continue paying #100 for every #1000 you withdraw at POS, join long queues and spend productive hours to withdraw nearly non-existent scarce notes or start adopting cashless measures to save your time and energy.. Whatever you do at the end of the day is your cup of tea!

NURTW stop wasting your time! Old notes will be useless after Feb 10, new notes will continue to be very scarce even after Feb. 10. NURTW plead with tech guys to come up with an innovation that will allow seamless payment of bus fares without network wahala or you come up yourselves with simple ideas like bus cards, QR codes or something similar and simple.
CBN is being deliberate with it's action of restricting circulation of #1000 and #500.

New Naira racketeering will continue to exist because Nigerians are stubborn to switch to cashless alternatives!

Unlike black market for fuel whose alternative is long queues, scarce new naira notes actually has plenty alternatives that Nigerians don't use, citing poor and silly excuses.

what about the tomato seller in market who doesn't have electronic banking? Our literacy and tech adoption level are so low, lots of people will suffer. People are rejecting old notes from their customers and cannot by from their merchant. It is crazy and needless.
When the tomato seller starts losing customers to other sellers that have switched to the different forms of cashless payment that have been existing for more than a decade now, they will adapt or allow their produce rot away! illiteracy is not an excuse! People will adapt when both buyer and seller can not do business. Hunger does not respect anyone!

Stop complaining for everything! Everyone will adapt! If pure water hawkers can't get POS, they can simply download, register and receive payment on bank apps like OPAY, palmpay, cowry etc. OPAY app is quite effective for microtransactions. Any serious business, small or large, will adapt to the current realities!

Below is a screenshot for payment to Fura di Nono hawkers (source: Twitter) ! Dey play, you hear!

If you're scared of transfer, feel free to pay premium of 25% for new notes that you will still spend in 24 hours! What's my own! cool cool cool

People are in banks and POS units with old cash but no new notes in sight? How is that a success?
What do you need new notes for? I deposited all my old notes in 1st bank and I've been cashless since shops in my area started rejecting old notes. Paid #500 for 3 bags of pure water through mobile transfer just now. Been doing #500 and #1000 transfers since Friday! World did not end! If shop A doesn't collect transfers. I move to shop B!

No amount of extension will placate Nigerians! They will still wait till last minute!

Foolish Nigerians are busy paying 20 to 25% extra charge just to collect #5000 new note from POS operators. Money that they will still spend buying breakfast and other stuff in one day! Then return to pay another 20%! Keep encouraging black market for new notes!

Why do you want to hold on to cash so much? People should force themselves to go cashless! I've been doing transfers of #500 and #1000 since Friday, world did not end. Will be transferring 5k to the shop near me today, so that I can pick what I want without bothering myself about cash.

The shareholding structure of the Port is as follows: The Lekki Port Investment Holding Inc. (international consortium) owns 75% (China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd 52.50%, Tolaram 22.5%), the Lagos State Government owns 20% while Nigerian Ports Authority owns 5%.

What kind of math is this? All the percentage put together is supposed to be 100% who wrote this na? This is the more you look the less you see😭
You are the one who doesn't understand the math:
Lekki Port Investment Holding Inc. (international consortium) owns 75%. The consortium is China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd and Tolaram! So when you add the percentage of each member of the consortium, you get 75%.

Good day guys,

Left my honda city running while I branched to get some vegetables, I didn't spend up to 5 mins. 30 seconds after I drove the car, the battery and engine oil light popped on and the car stopped accelerating. Pushed the car to side of the road, then turned it off and on. The lights the come on again but I'm worried. Anyone have any idea why those two warning lights popped on at the same time?
