You know what?

You guys have good writing skills. Kuwena you are good, why don't you monetize your writing skill?

I love being a Nigerian and that can never change.

A very close friend of mine travelled to the US some weeks back, he won visa lottery, one thing he keeps saying over and over is that there is nothing really special about the country, absolutely.

Nice post, brief, funny and informative.

But 'JOB' is not a do or die affair anyway, if you won't be allowed to come on stage- set your own stage!

I know of paypal and I will advice you to forget it, any platform that does not want you, a Nigerian, don't force it. I really don't know what you want but www.2checkout.com might be a perfect alternative or alertpay.

Business / Re: Transcorp Board Reconstituted: Are They Ready To Fly? by kg(f): 7:59am On Oct 24, 2007
Iyke-D:

@KG1

Its news to me that NITEL was doing so well and not in coma until it was bought by Transcorp, but then you
may be right as you seems to know a lot of internal stuff

Don't get it twisted, I only replied your previous post.
"they were not in coma when they bought a comatose NITEL" simply means they i.e. Transcorp was not in coma when it bought NITEL and so they should rise up and start producing results that will speak for themselves, afterall that was why it was sold in the first place- RESULTS, quality service at an affordable price.

Gone are the days of  the NITEL monopoly, there is competition out there!
The only thing that is still keeping NITEL is (B2B) the services they render to other telecomms companies in naija and the truth is there is more money in it. When it comes to the service they render to subscribers i.e individuals and businesses they have failed woefully.

Yet in all of these it's not too late, NITEL is still a goldmine anytime anyday, time will tell. Besides I'm aware of three major projects that if well implemented will turn things around for good. Two of them almost done(started and paid for by the previous NITEL) and the third a Transcorp idea.

So far transcorp has not done well, they are too slow for me but I choose to be hopeful because there is no reason why they should not do well. There is no amount invested that they can't recover if the mgt is good and the right decisions are taken on time.

wanaj0:

Your statement in bold does not reflect the events that led to the sale of NITEL to Transcorp.

Was it Transcorp that prevented IIL from paying up when they bidded for NITEL?

Was it Transcorp that prevented Pentascope from turning NITEL arround?

Was it Transcorp that prevented Orascom from submitting a bid above the reserved price?

You mean all the time that IIL won the bid for NITEL you already saw through the crystal ball that NITEL would be sold to Transcorp

What you don't know is that beyond the scenes you get to watch alot has happened behind the scene.

Don't forget that the same IIL turned out to be what you know as Globacom today, was it really a money problem that stopped them?

Pentascope could not have turned NITEL around because that was not their mission- they were supposed to kill, steal and destroy and that was exactly what they did! As soon as their mission was accomplished they fled to their country. Several billions were stolen, NITEL pension reserve was tampered with and loans were gotten from banks. The National Assembly took up the matter but eventually it was all buried. El- Rufai, baba's son was involved.

Before they came the Union of NITEL had traveled to their country to verify their claims and discovered that Pentascope was just a mushroom die minute arrangement. As a matter of fact they were not a tel. company like they claimed. A comprehensive report was passed to the Minister of communication and the then BPE boss El-Rufai. Still they went ahead because Pentascope was not coming to the nation on their own, some Nigerians were behind them and looting was the whole idea.

Orascom, you know because they were allowed to get to the bid table, how about those who did not come close to the bid table, not because they were not good enough but because they posed a threat to the pre-written script.

No Crystal ball, the whole NITEL privatization agenda had differnt phases, I was refrring to the last phase that had players like Transcorp, Orascom and the rest.

nigeria1:

Look when Tom join transcorp i wrote on Nairaland. That he would not perform. And look the way the stock have gone down.

Tom Isegohi is just coming in and I think he should be given a chance, he only needs to surround himself with people with solid ICT knowledge and take bold steps.

As for the share price slump it was simply inevitable! It happened as a result of the lifting of the technical suspension on it which was long overdue. Mr Tom has nothing to do with it. Besides Trancorp never promised any short term miracle returns so the fall in share price should not be a surprise, it happens to all stocks at different stages for different reasons.
Business / Re: Transcorp Board Reconstituted: Are They Ready To Fly? by kg(f): 1:54pm On Oct 22, 2007
Iyke-D:

Will you be kind enough to detail the extent of damages that Transcorp has done to Nitel since it bought the
entity (as if NITEL wasn't comatosed before its acquisition)?

They were not in coma when they bought a comatose NITEL(yet it was not as comatose as people thought, the problem was bad decisions by bad mgt put in place by an ignorant govt. Yet in that state it still remains the only telecomms co. in naija that renders very important tel. services to the remaining telecomms companies, PTOs and GSM companies), if they knew they weren't competent they should have allowed other bidders who had experience in the telecoms sector to buy. With their zero experience in telecoms they still chose to "buy" or they thought it's hilton hotel where you boil water make garri and biz don start.

Come to think of it how is it possible that I piggy back other telecoms company successfully yet I'm so sick myself? It is only in naija that things like that happen.

Rather than transcorp to come in and work they are busy making so much noise in the papers claiming world class while the company loses billions (in the last one year of their NITEL takeover) that could have been avoided. Not only that they've not been able to pay salaries, owing staff several months of unpaid salaries while they make money from SAT3 and clean mouth!

If I start this transcorp discussion it won't end, I was never against privatization but I have a problem with selling to a zero telecomms experience company while the door was slammed against other buyers who were more competent. I knew transcorp was the company to takeover NITEL long before it was sold.
Business / Re: Transcorp Board Reconstituted: Are They Ready To Fly? by kg(f): 11:33am On Oct 22, 2007
Till now transcorp has done nothing but to further destroy (due to ignorance) the company(NITEL) willed to them by their father OBJ. You cannot understand the depth of damage they've done in the last one year. Giving special attention to the treatment of ringworm and ignoring leprosy completely- chasing shadows!

Why do you think it took so long for them to lift the technical suspension on their shares?

The only hope I have is the Tom Isegohi factor, that's the only right step they have taken so far yet it's no guarantee for miracles.

It's one thing to have money to do biz it's another thing to fully understand the biz itself.
It's not about noise and hype, it's about results.

Career / Re: Money Or Fulfilment: Which Do You Prefer? by kg(f): 11:08am On Jul 05, 2007
Theory says- fulfilment

Reality/Practicals says- money

If you don't have money problems then opt for fulfilment and go for lesser pay else go for the money first.

At the end of the day a JOB is still a JOB and real fulfilment doesn't come from getting a job no matter how fat or thin the salary is because so long as u remain in a job it controls your time n your life and with time you get tired and start yearning for freedom. So while in a job learn what you can learn and gather as much pay as you can gather, then when you are set for fulfilment opt out of a JOB and run your own show.

Jim Ovia or a Zenith Bank staff who is more fulfilled?
Bill Gate or a Microsoft staff who is more fulfilled?

Like my billionaire mentor will say "there is no passion in poverty!"

I've said mine, you make your own decision.
Business / Re: I Need Advice On How To Start Dealing In Stocks by kg(f): 7:43pm On Jul 03, 2007
@ Boladez
You're right, at the end of the day, your investment is in your hands because sincere and competent brokers are hard to find!

You know what? That they are hard to find does not mean they are not available.

I have a firm believe in the fact that investing in the stock market is one of the best way to grow your money and I have been actively investing with no problems. I have two highly professional, extremely competent brokers, with them I really don't have to worry, in all honesty at a point I didn't have to do any monitoring. I became spoilt cos there was nothing I could do stockwise that they could not do better and really that's the way it should be.

You can make good money from stocks especially if you are a profit taker from the secondary market. You only need to experience it to understand it. I am never surprise when some people voice out their ignorance when they give funny advice like- keep your money, don't do stocks and all, they have no light in that direction and so they can't see!

Like I always say get a sincere and competent broker and you can't help but grow rich using the stockmarket. No matter what you know about stocks, if you don't have a good broker your efforts might be frustrated. So, do ur homework well, don't go for agents or touts, go for the real certified professional that has a reputation to protect and you will smile.

I am smiling cos this stock thing works!

In case u want to know stocks made me a millionaire, so I know exactly what I'm talking about!

I'm glad someone started this thread, I was thinking of starting it too.

UBA or STB na serious "kalokalo" bank, I've had crazy deductions before and the truth is, it's like a trap, they don't inform you( verbal or written) and they go ahead and deduct your money. It is only if you notice that they will explain to you, of course the damage must have been done by then.

Other banks don't do so, I wonder what can be done to stop them

forgiven:

Just a question from a novice. Do I need the service of a stockbroker to buy shares from the NSE? What's the charges of a stockbroker like? They charge in percentage of your deals or how? Which stockbroker would you recommend for me?

Thank you as your help me grow in the share biz.

Yes you need a broker, the percentage charge by law is (4.5%) of your money either going in(about to buy) or coming out(when you have sold). The 4.5% does not belong to the broker alone, part of it goes to the NSE, CSCS etc

Recommendation:  Lion Stockbrokers Limited at Marina, Lagos Island.

If you need a personal touch combined with professional touch then I'll give you the phone number of my broker

ronkebaby:

stock is a big way of making money. i got to know about it so late myself. you could tripple your salary however meagre if you invest in shares. one of the rules is to buy shares when the companies would have closed their financial books for the year. at this time prises fall as everyone already knows what profit and all that they have made. before the close of financial books, there are too much speculations as people don't know how good the results would be. so rumours or expectations of good financial results make the stock prises soar in the market. hope this helps a little.

Very true Ronkebaby, stock is it and knowing when to buy is the main thing. In a situation where you can't figure out when to make a buy decision just make sure you have a competent broker who gives you quality advice from time to time. Or better still opt for Asset Management/Portfolio Management, it could be discretionary or non-discretionary.
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by kg(f): 5:37pm On Nov 25, 2006
In summary there two ways to buy- The primary market and the secondary market

Example of how to buy from primary market- Dangote shares is on (IPO)you can just buy directly

Example of how to buy from secondary market- let's say you are interested in First bank, since there is no public offer right now, you will contact your broker and let him know (u must know the right time to buy though, I will find time to send a post on that later) he will then buy for you usually from those selling theirs.

When you buy from the primary market it is cheaper but on the secondary market it is higher. The advantage the secondary market has over the primary is that you can easily sell once there is a rise in share price and you feel you're comfortable with the profit you've made. Unlike the primary where you have to wait for like six months or more to even have access to your cerificate e.g Union Bank shares.

At last Seun, you've finally woken up! I thought you didn't believe in stocks(your past posts says it all), I guess you changed your mind.

I hope to participate more and give useful tips, my challenge will be time though but I will create time- so help me GOD

I am particularly interested in investment the Warren Buffet's way and asset management as well.

No long waiting sharp intelligent decisions and your money grows!

TIP 1- Realise that when you work you work for money but when you invest money works for you! So even when you're working for money don't let it end there, go a step further by making sure money starts to work for you too. That way you'll arrive at Financial Freedom fast.

Travel / Re: Is Life Really Better Abroad? by kg(f): 3:43pm On Nov 15, 2006
It's not easy being a Nigerian but I LOVE BEING ONE ALL THE SAME.

To those complaining about living abroad-  na by force, why una no come back?

To those who want to go abroad- why not? Carry go, make the dollars come back and spend it in naija

For me I see real opportunities in naija everyday, I'm not in a hurry to leave. How I go survive sef?  I no like oyibo food, I hate their wheather so wetin I wan go do? I go be misfit for there, the only thing wey go carry me go na acada or vacation(few weeks and I'll run back)

Above all I can stay in naija and make cool dollars without travelling abroad, thanks to the internet.
