Like his predecessor , Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has shunned the use of siren, saying he does not want to harass Lagosians with its use . In Nigeria , the use of siren is a status symbol of political office holders , especially governors and the rest . To them , it is the highest form exhibition of authority and superiority to use the siren to oppress motorists on the road. Since he assumed office a week ago , the governor has refused to use the siren , preferring to stay in traffic rather than harass the citizens with siren. Last week , while travelling to Abuja , Ambode remained in the heavy traffic on Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja for about 30 minutes , refusing to use the siren. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Habib Aruna , when asked why the governor had shunned the use of siren, said this was the style he wanted to adopt in governing Lagos State and assured that in the next four years, the governor’ s convoy would not blare the siren . Aruna stated that the governor did not believe in using the siren to oppress people on the road, saying that what is paramount was to deliver good governance to the people of Lagos State . According to him, Ambode had made it clear to his aides that he would tolerate anyone in his convoy blaring the siren as he detests it , adding that he was elected to serve the people and not to lord it over them. “In fact , last Tuesday, when the governor was going to the airport to travel to Abuja, he was held up in traffic on Awolowo Way , Ikeja for about 30 minutes. He did not use the siren to pave way for himself. “He just remained in the traffic patiently for 30 minutes . People who saw him in the traffic were hailing him for being a good example and wished him well, ” Aruna said. Former Governor, Babatunde Fashola had adopted the same style as he did not use the siren all through the eight years he was in office as governor. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/06/08/ambode-dumps-siren/ |

Two unidentified gunmen on Wednesday abducted Enaye Abah, the Chairman of Ogbia, local government area in Bayelsa, and took him to an unknown destination. President Goodluck Jonathan comes from Ogbia local government as well. It is not clear why Mr. Abah was kidnapped. The kidnappers are yet to contact Mr. Abah’s family but there are fears that the abduction has political undertones. The abducted council boss played a key role in election logistics for the Peoples Democratic Party in the State Assembly election. The result of the election for the State House of Assembly Constituency seat remain inconclusive following the violence in the area. The Independent National Electoral Commission is yet to fix a new date over insecurity in the area. The Police Spokesperson for Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said the command had alerted Rivers and Delta Commands of the development. The kidnappers allegedly trailed their victim, overtook his car and blocked him. They shot sporadically to scare away people around the area. “They abducted him in his car and transferred him to a blue mazda car and when they got to Okaka waterside they burnt the mazda car and escaped with a waiting speedboat into the river,” Mr. Butswat said. Residents who witnessed the abduction said the two gunmen had better ammunitions and overpowered the security escort attached to the chairman. Mr. Butswat said the police got a distress call on Wednesday morning and dispatched men to rescue the council chairman. “We were meant to believe that the council chairman was under threat along Otuasega-Okaka Expressway, so our first reaction was (to go) towards Otuasega. But we got there to find of that the gunmen had escaped through Okaka waterside,” said Mr. Butswat. He said the police was on the trail of the kidnappers. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/181868-%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8bgunmen-%e2%80%8babduct-chairman-of-president-jonathans-local-govt-council.html |

General Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect of Nigeria, has requested the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to support the candidacy of Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina as the next president of the African Development Bank (ADB). General Buhari has communicated his backing of Dr. Adesina’s candidacy to the Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama, who is the current chairperson of the ECOWAS. In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, April 21, General Buhari said that his support of Dr. Adesina’s candidacy was not just because he was Nigerian. “Dr. Adesina has a proven track record in a career that predates his position as Nigeria’s Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development,” General Buhari said. He added that Dr. Adesina had years of experience of working in Francophone and Anglophone countries, and a passion to help eradicate poverty in Africa by reducing unemployment and inequality among African youth. Dr. Adesina is also an agricultural development expert with 24 years of experience in developing and managing successful agricultural Programmes across Africa. Until his appointment as the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2011, he was the Vice President, Policy and Partnerships Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). Additionally, he has held senior leadership positions in a number of agricultural institutions in the world. http://newswirengr.com/2015/04/21/buhari-recommends-president-jonathans-minister-for-afdb-appointment-akinwunmi-adesina-gets-president-elect-on-his-side/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
Following the defeat suffered by President Goodluck Jonathan and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, during the March 28 and April 11 elections, the President has asked the party and government officials who handled campaign funds to refund monies not spent, or those not judiciously expended, SUNDAY PUNCH can authoritatively report. Jonathan, credible sources said, has also set up a committee of five to get those with the funds to return them. Sources within the party and government told our correspondents that President Jonathan was disturbed that despite giving campaign coordinators, ministers, special advisers, close aides and friends, support groups and traditional rulers over N2trn in cash, most of them could not deliver their polling booths and local governments. The President was said to have been further irked by the results of an investigation he ordered. The probe showed that some coordinators used campaign funds to buy very expensive properties, especially in Abuja, and luxury cars. Some of the funds have also been traced to the bank accounts of senior party and government officials who were charged with the disbursement of funds to voters and groups. A reliable source within the Presidency told our correspondents that one of the President, who recently admitted to a few close aides that it would be difficult to retrieve all the funds, was bent on getting senior party and government officials who received funds to account for all monies collected. The source who is a close associate of the president said monies given to traditional rulers in different parts of the country, for example, would not be demanded for. But the source was quick to add that the President was determined to get his ministers, close aides and special advisers to make refunds. He said, “Some ministers did not get less than N20bn each. None of them can deny it because this fact isn’t hidden within government circles. The only problem with such monies is that there is no receipt to show that they collected money. The sad part is that almost all of them performed woefully. Even in the states where the PDP won, some ministers could not deliver 100,000 votes. They could not mobilise their people to come out. The President is not happy. They all went property and car shopping. This was the most expensive election in the history of this country, yet there was no result. “The sad part was that even after the President lost on March 28, more money was given to all of them to make up for the dismal outing by winning their states during the April 11 elections. But that turned out to be a bad decision because apart from losing the governorship election, we didn’t perform well at the National Assembly and House of Representatives polls. “They must give an account of the money since they didn’t use it for the election. The President is not particular about the funds spent on genuine campaign needs like the hiring of jets, advertisements and the rest that also cost billions of naira. His focus is on the individuals that collected billions to deliver their states but couldn’t even win their polling booths.” Our correspondents gathered that apart from the N20bn given to some key ministers and senior special advisers, especially in states where the PDP hoped to capture from the opposition All Progressives Congress, some pro-Jonathan support groups received about N16bn. A former legislator who was to print five million recharge cards, T-shirts and base ball caps has also come under pressure to account for the billions she received because only a few people got the items she was paid to produce. Also, a top female politician in Lagos who got a contract to produce and supply thousands of mobile phones with pro-Jonathan messages was said to have produced just a few and pocketed most of the funds. It was learnt that the funds Jonathan released were disbursed in three phases. Some were released before the March 28 elections, others on the day of the presidential election and more before the April 11 governorship polls. Already, the committee of five has started asking some of the campaign coordinators and ministers who received a minimum of N20bn each to give an account and also refund residual funds where applicable. However, our correspondents learnt that most of the people who received the funds had not cooperated with the committee. While some have not been forthcoming, others have simply ignored the committee. Jonathan is said to be particularly focusing on the South-West and northern states. In Lagos, a popular PDP chieftain who lost in his polling booth reportedly received $50m in cash a few days before the governorship elections. A senior PDP party member who spoke to one of our correspondents in Lagos over the weekend confirmed the cash splurge in Lagos. The source said, “Lagos was a show of shame. A few days to the governorship poll, about $150m was received in cash by about five top campaign coordinators. But they failed again, even more than we did in the presidential poll because we lost some areas we won on March 28 to the APC on April 11. They were to share this money to the local governments and the masses. “Please understand me, I am saying that the sum of $150m was just for the governorship election in Lagos. We are not talking about the sums they got for the presidential election. Only one out of the five people that shared the money gave some of it to local government chairmen. This person disbursed about N2bn. The rest of them sat on the money. “The coordinator that collected the sum of $50m later went to a Federal Government agency and complained of not having enough funds for the election and got an additional $20m. The story is the same in almost all the South- West especially Oyo, Osun, and the northern states. A female minister from the North, who got the highest amount of funds for that region, lost her state in a shameful manner.” Confirming that campaign directors in different parts of the country had been asked for an audit, the PDP Campaign Director in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Idongesit Nkanga, said the instruction was not new. He stated that the PDP’s campaign organisation in the state had concluded its audit. “It is the normal thing. It is the right thing to do for transparency’s sake,” he said. Nkanga said he would not be able to comment on the refund because he did not collect money from anyone. According to him, the PDP’s campaign organisation in Akwa Ibom State received a letter for an audit from the PDP campaign headquarters. He explained that “because the letter emanated from the national headquarters of the party, they were under obligation to submit the audit report about the campaign’s expenditure to them.” He maintained that at the campaign headquarters, some of the information was available, adding that he would not be able to give SUNDAY PUNCH accurate details offhand to avoid possible conflict in the figures. Asked what sanctions would be meted out to defaulters, Nkanga said they might be prosecuted. However, our correspondent reports that prosecution, while not impossible, may be difficult as most of the monies disbursed were not receipted. Contacted, the national leadership of the ruling PDP said it did not know anything about the money spent on its presidential campaign. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, stated this in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja on Saturday. Metuh said only those put in charge of the funds were in a position to account for the monies. He said, “The national leadership of the PDP is not aware of any campaign fund. We were not part of it and therefore we can’t be asked to account for what we didn’t know anything about. “There was a campaign committee and only the committee is in the position to account for any fund.” Efforts made to speak with the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Sen. Ahmadu Ali were unsuccessful. Ali, a former national chairman of the party, did not pick his call and also failed to respond to a text message sent to him. Similarly, efforts to get the Presidency’s reaction did not yield any result as calls made to the telephone line of the presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, as at 10.30pm did not connect. http://www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-demands-n2trn-election-funds-refund-audit/ |
1.Openness Every woman wants to reveal her partner her deepest naughty fantasies, bu every woman can entrust her secret dreams. That’s why a man must be t open in bed. The more open a guy is about his intimate desires, the more a woman will be with hers. 2. Listening To be heard is one of those things women always want to get from guys, under the sheets. We know exactly what we love doing in bed. Guys should listen to us and respond to our guidance on how to satisfy us best. Of co their efforts will be rewarded. 3. Passion There is no doubt women dream about all sorts of romance, candles, flowers, gentle words etc. But men should not forget about passion as well, raw passion. Sometimes the best way to satisfy a woman is to just take her, kiss her hard, and make no apologies for how desperately he needs all of you. 4. Aggressiveness We, women, are quite enthusiastic about aggressive sex, aren’t we? Even a little roughing under the sheets can do wonders for our sexual life. We do not want our men to be aggressive on every occasion, but sometimes guys must definitely turn into real 5.Focus on entire body Unfortunately men often make this mistake. They pay attention to a few places on a woman’s body when trying to bring her pleasure. But we don’t actually want our partner to focus only on these “obvious” intimate spots. We want guys to pay attention to our entire body rather than the sum of its parts. 6.Longer MouthAction It’s just incredible how many men don’t give their women MouthAction that often, or even don’t do it at all. They actually think it’s OK. But it’s definitely not! Guys expect MouthAction for themselves, but do not always return the sentiment to girls. It’s a huge mistake. Agree, girls? We want men to experiment a little bit down there and figure out what we like best. 7. Domination We, women, want it all, to dominate and to be dominated. We want men to take charge in bed as well as we want to take charge by ourselves. Sometimes to control everything what’s going on between the sheets brings us real pleasure, “the cowgirl” position works the best in this case. The must-remember tip here is to switch these roles from time to time. 8. Dirty talk Women love dirty talk, but men often miss giving it to us. Every girl secretly wants her partner to engage her naughty side and tell her exactly what he is thinking about, not just flowery sweet nothing. Our halves must tell us about their dirtiest sexual desires and then fulfill them in the bedroom! So, these are the main things women want their men to do in the bedroom. Don’t be upset if your partner doesn’t do all of them. Just talk to him, and don’t be afraid to reveal your deepest and darkest desires. Find out his secret fantasies too. Understanding and trusting each other is the best way to spice up your sexual life. http://herbeauty.co/relationships/bedroom-tips-girls-secretly-want-guy/4/ |
John Oyegun, the national chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), said on Saturday that the gale of defections by politicians was not good for Nigeria’s political development. Mr. Oyegun, who spoke to newsmen in Benin shortly after casting his vote, advised those defecting to the winning party to rather form a formidable opposition to enrich the nation’s democracy. “Many opposition party members have defected to APC just because they lost out, that is not good for political development. “One would have advised that opposition members should stay where they are, and form a formidable opposition party.” Mr. Oyegun said. He described the governorship and houses of assembly elections as “the most decent, orderly and peaceful” ever conducted in Edo. Meanwhile, the APC national chairman won the election in his polling unit. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola, on Wednesday failed in their legal bid to stop the impeachment moves being made against them by the All Progressives Congress members of the state House of Assembly. A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday rejected their prayers contained in an ex parte application seeking interim injunction to set aside the impeachment notice served on them and halt further moves to remove them from office. The court only granted prayers contained in the ex parte application relating to service of the court processes on the defendants. Rather than granting the prayers for interim injunction, Justice Ahmed Mohammed ordered the defendants in the suit, including the APC factional Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adewale Omirin, and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, to appear in court on April 16. The court ordered the defendants to appear in court to show cause why the order of interim injunction being sought by the plaintiffs halting the impeachment proceedings should not be granted. Apart from Omirin and Justice Daramola, other defendants in the suit are the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, and the Independent National Electoral Commission. The plaintiffs in the suit are the Speaker of the House of Assembly (described as being occupied by the Peoples Democratic Party factional Speaker, Olugbemi Joseph Dele); Ekiti State House of Assembly, Fayose and Olusola. Counsel for the plaintiffs, Mr. Ahmed Raji, had sought the interim injunctions halting the impeachment moves through an ex parte application dated and filed on April 7, 2015. He had urged the court to grant the interim injunction setting aside the impeachment notice already served on the governor and the deputy and also restraining the defendants from taking any further steps in the impeachment moves. The lawyer argued that the act by Omirin to issue an impeachment notice and serve same on the governor and the deputy governor as Speaker of the House of Assembly amounted to impersonating the incumbent Speaker. “The gravamen of our complaint is that a former Speaker of the parliament, the Ekiti State House of Assembly, in the person of the 1st respondent (Omirin) is trying to impersonate the 1st plaintiff (Dele) who is the current Speaker of the parliament,” Raji said. Part of the orders sought in the ex parte application are “An order of injunction restraining the 1st defendant (Dele) and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff (Ekiti State House of Assembly) from further taking any step or engaging in unlawful activities relating to the impeachment of Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Kolapo Olusola as governor and deputy governor of Ekiti State. “An interim order of injunction restraining the Chief Judge of Ekiti State from taking any step or action in relation to the request of the 1st defendant (Omirin) for the purpose of appointing a panel of seven persons to investigate the purported allegations of gross misconduct against Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Kolapo Olusola. “An interim order of injunction restraining the police from continuing to abet, give cover, protection or lend credence to the activities of the 1st defendant and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff for self-help in disruption of legislative proceedings in the Ekiti State House of Assembly. “An interim order of injunction setting aside the purported notice of impeachment and all the steps taken by the 1st defendant and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff in relation to the purported issuance and service of the notice of impeachment for the purpose of commencing. And concluding impeachment proceedings against Peter Ayodele Fayose. And Dr. Kolapo Olusola.” The plaintiffs had urged the court to grant the prayers and make the interim injunctions to subsist pending the determination of their motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions seeking the same set of prayers. Raji urged the court to grant the prayers “in the interest of justice, public order, peace and safety of the people of the state”. But the judge in his ruling rather than granting the interim injunctions ordered the parties to appear in court to convince the court why the plaintiffs’ prayers for interim injunction should not be granted. Justice Mohammed ruled, “The order is hereby made directing the 1st to 4th defendants (Omirin, IGP, INEC and Ekiti CJ), to appear before this court on April 16, 2015 and show cause why the interim order sought by the plaintiffs via an ex parte motion dated April 7, 2015 should not be made by this court.” But the court granted other prayers contained in the ex parte motion relating to service of the court processes, including the main suit) on the defendants. The court granted leave to serve Omirin and Justice Daramola, who reside in Ekiti State, outside jurisdiction. It also ordered that Omirin and the Ekiti State Chief Judge be served through advertisement in a national newspaper. It also made a separate order that the Chief Judge be served with processes of court through the office of the Chief Registrar of of the Ekiti State High Court. In their main suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/302/2015, the plaintiffs are seeking nine prayers among which is “an order setting aside the purported notice of impeachment and all steps taken by the 1st defendant (Omirin) with other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff (Ekiti State House of Assembly) in relation to the purported issuance and service of the said notice of impeachment for the purpose of commencing and concluding the impeachment proceedings against Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Olusola Kolapo, except and until there is absolute compliance with provisions of section 36(1) and section 188(1), (2), (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).” Other prayers being sought by the plaintiffs include, “An order prohibiting the 1st defendant (Omirin) and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff (Ekiti State House of Assembly) from further taking any step, or engaging in unlawful activities relating to the impeachment of Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Olusola Kolapo, except and until there is absolute compliance with provisions of section 36(1) and section 188(1), (2), (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). “An order prohibiting the Chief Judge of Ekiti State from taking any step or action in relation to the request of the 1st defendant (Omirin) for the purpose of appointing a panel of seven persons to investigate and purported allegations of gros misconduct against Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Olusola Kolapo, except and until there is absolute compliance with provisions of section 36(1) and section 188(1), (2), (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).” Justice Mohammed on Wednesday ordered that hearing notices be served on all the defendants and adjourned the matter till April 16. http://www.punchng.com/news/court-refuses-to-stop-impeachment-proceedings-against-fayose-deputy/ http://www.osundefender.org/?p=236077 |
The police have just arrested Fayose's Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ademola Bello and about five other thugs. They were arrested few minutes ago by the police who burst their location opposite Prince and Princess restaurant in Ado Ekiti. Demola Bello and his thugs were in 4 hilux vans stationed at the Prince and Princess junction very close to the Central Bank junction that leads to the House of Assembly. They were laying ambush for the 19 APC Lawmakers with guns, acid, axes and charms which were recovered from the hoodlums who were later arrested and taken to the Police Headquarters. The police also recovered three of the hilux vans used by the thugs while the 4th hilux, blue in colour, ran into a ditch on bank road as the driver made to escape. Ademola Bello, Ariyo Afolabi and one Femi Ogunleye are the coordinators of Mr. Fayose's thugs who had been terrorising Ekiti communities since October 2014 when Fayose was sworn in. There is pressure already on the Commissioner of Police to release them but he was reported to have told Fayose that things have changed. http://news.nigeriannation.com/breaking-news-fayoses-sapol-ademola-bello-arrested-with-guns-and-acid/ news.nigeriannation.com/breaking-news-fayoses-sapol-ademola-bello-arrested-with-guns-and-acid/ |
2011 and 2012 was when citizens found a voice via social media in Nigeria. The OccupyNigeria movement is the biggest case in point. 2015 is when they will roar once more, because the general elections The elections, which shifted from its initial set date, February 14 to March 28, is now days away, and the most influential actors on the political stage are finding ways to manipulate and subvert the conversation in their favour. Every trick in the book is in play — spoof Twitter accounts, viral smear campaigns, blatant astroturfing…in response, civil society is trying to mobilise and use technology to cut through the noise and help citizens engage productively. In this war of interests, here are ways technology and internet are already impacting Nigeria’s upcoming election. 1. Electronic Smart Card Readers Hoping to curb electoral irregularities, INEC (Nigeria’s electoral regulatory body) has deployed smart card readers to verify the authenticity of the permanent voters card at the polling booths. The smart card reader doesn’t just authenticate the card, it also allows for the biometric authentication of the legitimacy of the smart card holder, at least in theory. However, a test run of the smart card reader revealed that it isn’t as smart as expected, with almost 40% failure rate. INEC has reportedly said it would revert to the manual authentication of voters in cases where the biometric authentication fails. We’re not sure how exactly that will pan out, but we’re waiting to see. The electoral race is really close and the major parties appear to be leaving no stone unturned. However, we are unsure how far online sentiments and conversations will influence the final outcome of the election in any way. Clearly, technology and internet as a tool for social change in Nigeria is blooming, but is hardly matured. The needle is twitching, but just barely. 2. Election Monitoring Local developers have designed mobile apps and websites that can aggregate real-time updates from polling units from across the country; some of them with geo-tagging function to track these updates by location. Nigeria Elections is a mobile app. It aggregates news around the elections, and also provides the listing of polling booths, national constituencies, presidential candidates and their running mates. The results of the election will be uploaded on the app when it is officially announced. INEC , names after the country’s electoral umpire – Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) -allows users get information on polling units, the election process and the status of their PVC. Another similar election monitoring app is EiE’s Revoda . Pollwatchng.com and Nigeriadecide.org are websites that which allow voters/observers submit situation reports about the elections in their locale. Users can upload images with cursory comments about the situation being reported. 3. Online Conversations and Campaigns Traditional media: print, television and radio, remained the major sources of information dissemination in Nigeria, until enormous mobile penetration, data availability and cheap access. Internet usage in Nigeria grew by 16% in 2014, making a total of about 37.53% of Nigerians with internet access. Politicians have joined the growing online community. Political office hopefuls and their supporters have taken to twitter and sent out political messages with hashtags like #GEJ_WINS, #CHANGE e.t.c. To show that they “get it”, both front-running political parties – APC and PDP – have staged Google Hangouts. Last month, the APC’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, and Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola answered questions from Nigerian youth . The PDP’s Google Hangout session was staged for its Lagos governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje. An overwhelming torrent of websites and apps also dot the internet designed by political parties to reach supporters. Forwardnigeria.ng , Apcgmbpyo.org are affiliated with the PDP and APC presidential candidates respectively. They have also embraced candidate-specific apps such as the General Buhari and the APC Situation Room for the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari and the other for his party, APC. Forward Nigeria is for the incumbent president and PDP presidential flag bearer, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. Individuals and civil organisations are also driving conversation via the internet. Enough Nigeria Coalition’s eie.ng is a website that provides information on candidates vying for political offices as well as beams INEC’s press releases. Sterling and Greenback, a Lagos-based enterprise, also created a sentiment machine that measures the level of support for different parties. 4. Online Advertising Sponsored posts are popping up at every click of the mouse as there’s a good possibility you encounter a political ad – thanks Adsense – while watching a youtube video or just reading through your favourite blog. Social media brand promoters also known as pirates of Nigerian twitter are also part of online advertising stratagem. They are throwing their online weight behind the highest bidding political party. 5. Crowdfunding One of the political parties, APC, has sought to crowdsource funds for their campaign. The party has employed means ranging from ringtones, premium SMS, scratch cards and e-transactions to get supporters to contribute financially. The Nigerian Communications Commision later banned the APC’s mobile crowdfunding shortcode, but this decision has been struck out by a federal high court sitting in Lagos. The court also ruled that the NCC and the telcos involved pay N500 million ($2.5 million) in damages to the party. Gbosa Gbosa Technology Ltd recently launched a broad-based fundraising platform, SpeaksForUS, to help organizations with crowd- sourced fundraising. The website has a category for political donations where you can make donations by buying political posters, bags and other party branded items, with prices ranging between N48 ($0.25) to N10,000 ($50) naira. 6. Fact Checking factchecki.ng , is a website that crosschecks dubious information in circulation, debunk myth and verify fact. On factchecki, you can submit questions, facts and lies. However, the platform only caters to facts related to the APC presidential aspirant, General Muhammadu Buhari. 7. Data A nation’s budget basically determines how well the government can function. Budgit is a website that allows you simulate the Nigerian budget. Budgit simply breaks down the Nigerian budget and allows you “become the finance minister for a day”, thereby coming up with your own budget structure. 8. Online Polls In anticipation of the forthcoming elections, media houses have come up with online presidential polls. Three of these polls have been more popular and they were held by Sahara Reporters , President Jonathan’s social media aide, Reno Omokri and AIT . However, these online polls have been marked by controversies as there has been accusations of double voting and biased umpires. Whatever the case may be, it is clear that all parties involved don’t want to look like they are falling behind in the digital popularity race. Nigeria Decide 2015 and NaijaPolls are apps that allow you vote for your preferred presidential and governorship candidates across all states. NaijaPolls also allows you read the bios of the candidates. http://techcabal.com/2015/03/26/8-ways-technology-is-influencing-nigerias-2015-elections/ |

Hello, I need to let you all know that GMB is the next president of Nigeria confirmed!!! Reason is simple, GMB will have minimum 25% in all the 19 states of the North(it has been proven from the results so far). In all the 6 states of South West, he has 25% already. That means he has 25% already in 25 states (19+6). He already has 25% in Abuja according to INEC result(19+6+1=26). That's 26 states already. Now the balance 10 states of South East and South South, assuming he's taking zero percent in the two zones or less than 25% in all the two zones. The cummulative of the 10 states of SE and SS is not up to cummulative votes of Kano, Sokoto, Lagos, Kaduna and Bauchi. 2/3 majority has finally been realised and the overall cummulative will swing the way of GMD. This cannot be altered!!! So change has finally been actualised! Congratulations Nigeria and all agents of change! |

Hundreds of women from different parts of Rivers state who were protesting to INEC headquarters along Aba /Port Harcourt Expressway in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital against alleged irregularities that characterised the last Saturday presidential and national assembly election in the state were about 9: 15 am today teargassed and dispersed by stern looking armed policemen . The women who were led by Mrs Joeba West , Rivers State Commissioner for Women Affairs ; Mrs Maureen Tamuno , former member Rivers House of Assembly and former Chairperson of Ogu/Bolo local government council and also an APC candidate contesting for Okrika/Ogu Bolo federal constituency in federal House of Representatives had passed St . John ’ s bus stop on old Port Harcourt/Aba Expressway but on reaching Waterlines Junction they were stopped and teargassed by the police. Journalists who were covering the peaceful protest were not spared as they were also teargassed as people scampered in different direction for safety. The action of the policemen caused instant pandemonium on the ever - busy federal truck ‘ A ’ road that is major access road to the Eastern parts of the country from the Rivers state capital. The women who were clad in all - black attire with placards narrating their grievances , were drawn from 23 local government areas of the state . However , as soon as the women took to the street, several troopers of heavily- armed anti - riot policemen , in several vehicles , hit the Waterlines Junction along Aba Road where they mounted a heavy roadblock . But the women, who were determined to proceed to accomplish their mission , engaged the policemen in an argument . The women appealed to the officers in- charge of the police operations to let them continue with their march but they were not allowed . The police would not listen to the harmless women and rather than offer them a passage , they fired teargas canisters . Several women ran for safety but eventually were caught in the open hostility unleashed on them . Older women among the flock sustained injuries and had to be attended to by their colleagues. Some who inhaled the teargas collapsed on the ground. Yesterday, thousand of APC supporters led by the Dr .Dakuku Peterside , the governorship candidate of APC , Senator Magnus Abe contesting for Rivers East senatorial seat protested to the INEC office calling for the cancellation of the Saturday elections the state capital . In the ensuing tension over the election the INEC office in Emohua local Government in Emohua was set ablaze by unknown arsonists . Meanwhile , this morning besides calling for the cancellation of election in the state , the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) has demanded the immediate suspension of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner ( REC ) , Mrs . Gesila Khan , for allegedly colluding with the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) to rig last weekend ’ s presidential and National Assembly elections in the state . In a statement by Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, the APC chairman in Rivers said “For Mrs . Khan to have removed the INEC result sheets in all the polling units in the State with the intention of rigging the polls is a very serious criminal offence. Mrs . Khan should not only be suspended but should not be allowed to conduct the April 11 Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections , as well as the Presidential and National Assembly elections when rescheduled .” Rivers APC commended INEC Chairman , Prof . Attahiru Jega, for acknowledging the party’ s petition on the polls in Rivers state . “We are very convinced that if our case is thoroughly investigated it will be confirmed that the State REC , Mrs . Khan , compromised her office and tarnished the good image of INEC , ” the party stated. APC defended the action of the State Governor, Rt . Hon . Chibuike Amaechi, in requesting to see the INEC result sheets and other sensitive materials for the conduct of last weekend ’ s polls . The party said the Governor took that step as the party was aware that the State REC had traded off the result sheets to PDP to write the results as they deemed fit . “Amaechi wanted to prevent a situation whereby people would queue to vote while PDP and INEC would write a different result not reflecting the true voting pattern in the state .” Rivers APC condemned the conduct of soldiers deployed for the election , saying that contrary to court order , PDP not only used the army to intimidate APC supporters and coerce Rivers State voters to vote for PDP . “It is sad that the PDP leadership in Rivers State could be so callous to arm the youths in order to kill and maim Rivers State people because of election . We know that Rivers people are peace -loving and arming some of the youths at this time does not do anyone any good because it may be difficult to retrieve some of these arms from these youths later, thereby constituting a serious security challenge ,” Rivers APC said . It declared that Rivers PDP does not have any agenda to move the State forward, which informed its rejection by Rivers people . If Rivers State people are allowed to vote, President Jonathan and Chief Nyesome Wike can never secure up to 10% of votes cast in the State in any election based on all the evils the duo have committed against Rivers State . “As a party we will do everything humanly possible to ensure that the verdict and wishes of Rivers State people are honoured and implemented and that they are allowed to vote without any intimidation or coercion ,” Ikanya said . http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/03/30/police-teargas-women-protesters-in-port-harcourt/ |
