Celebrities › Re: OMG!!! Don Jazzy Secret Exposed! See What He Does To Produce Hit Songs by khassy(m): 8:39am On Sep 22, 2015

Don Jazzy is known for producing hit songs from the Mavin Records’, sometimes he featured on the songs he produces. So in most cases, he works as a producer and artiste.

In a recent interview with City People magazine, the Mavin records boss Don Jazzy revealed the secret behind his hit songs.

When asked if he has the Midas touch, Jazzy replied saying he doesn’t know about the Midas touch but he understand the market.

He said:

“I don’t know about the Midas touch, but I think what it is, is that, I understand the market first, I also understand people to a large extent, the common problem with people in the industry is not really understanding the individuals they deal with, either the artiste of their staffs, I run a very beautiful organization where everyone is friends. We are family, I don’t come and start using veto power, because I am the boss, the greatest idea might come from the little guy there.

“So I listen to everybody and it works. As for music I try to experiment sometimes, but I don’t go out of the box to say I want to over experiment in a way that it is not what people want. If it is akara that you want to sell, it’s the akara that you will sell.

You don’t have to start putting jam inside akara. Then it’s not akara anymore, it is something else, the least you can do is to put small pepper to taste, you cannot now go over outside the box and say you want to put your name on top of the akara and stuffs like that. Over the years there has been the kind of music Nigerians like. This is the kind of music my mother and my father dances to and their friends too, then we just stick to the formula and it works for us.”

Education › Re: 10 Grammar Mistakes You Should Avoid [part 1] by khassy(m): 8:37am On Sep 22, 2015
TRWConsult:
Mistake 1: Using whom as a subject
INCORRECT: Fire personnel radioed deputies to stop the driver, whom, according to reports, appeared to have been under the influence of intoxicants.
CORRECT : Fire personnel radioed deputies to stop the driver, who, according to reports, appeared to have been under the influence of intoxicants.
In this sentence, the pronoun is the subject of the verb appeared and therefore requires the subject form who. The object form of who is whom, which functions as the object of a verb or as the object of a preposition:
That is the man whom I saw at the window. (object of the verb saw)
Did he say to whom he sent the letter? (object of the preposition to)
The misuse of whom as a subject frequently occurs when a phrase intervenes between the pronoun and its subject. Be especially careful with such expressions as “according to so-and-so,” “in my opinion,” “one suspects,” etc. Less frequently, but more embarrassingly, whom is sometimes substituted for who when little or nothing stands between it and its verb, as in this sentence taken from a news account: “An off-duty fireman whom lives in the area provided immediate assistance.”

Mistake 2: Unnecessary would in a wish about the past
INCORRECT: Ten Things I Wish I Would Have Known When I Was Twenty
CORRECT : Ten Things I Wish I Had Known When I Was Twenty
The opportunity for knowing the ten things existed in the past, but exists no longer. The tense required, therefore, is the past perfect (had + past participle).

Mistake 3: Dangling modifier
INCORRECT: At the age of four, Sam’s family moved from Florida, Missouri, to Hannibal.
CORRECT : At the age of four, Sam moved with his family from Florida, Missouri, to Hannibal.
Modifiers should be positioned as closely as possible to the element they modify. The modifying phrase “At the age of four” modifies “Sam,” not “Sam’s family.”

Mistake 4: Subject-Verb disagreement with delayed subject
INCORRECT: There goes Sally and Greg on their way to the movies.
CORRECT : There go Sally and Greg on their way to the movies.
Subjects and verbs must agree in number. When a sentence begins with here or there, the true subject of the sentence follows the verb. “Sally and Greg” is a plural subject, so the verb go must also be plural: “Sally and Greg go.”

Mistake 5: Incorrect use of object pronouns
INCORRECT: Me and my brothers all have college degrees in business.
CORRECT : My brothers and I all have college degrees in business.
Several English pronouns retain different forms that indicate their function in a sentence. Me is an object form. In the example, it is incorrectly used as the subject of the verb have. Other object forms often used incorrectly are him, her, us, them, and whom.

Education › Re: FG To Harmonise University Grading System by khassy(m): 8:33am On Sep 22, 2015
RabiuAnka:
EXECUTIVE Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Professor Julius Okojie has said the grading system in all universities will be harmonised to have a common grading system. The move will help enhance understanding of the grading system of Nigerian Universities internationally.
He said this at a workshop on review of grading system in Nigerian Universities, in Abuja, yesterday. Okojie said when the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard (BMAS) documents were reviewed in 2007, the document did not take into consideration the technical implications of the policy to allow individual institutions and disciplines to implement different minimum requirement for a student
to graduate. He said having different grading system within the
system is an issue that needs to be addressed as it has some technical implications on the grading of students.
“While some disciplines used the six grade points of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 for letter grades of A,B, C, D, E, and F respectively, other disciplines removed the E grade altogether having a system with grade points of5,4,3,2,0forlettergradesofA,B,C,D,and F respectively. These systems have incontrovertibly introduced two systems of grading within the Nigerian University System that have some technical implications on the grading of students.”
He said the workshop will provide an avenue for the NUC and all universities to review the existing grading systems in a bid to review the existing grading system to arrive at a generally acceptable method of computing CGPA. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/fg-to-harmonise-university-grading-system/

Babsbakr:
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the
University gives equal opportunity to all its
admission seekers. “There is equal
opportunity for all students from every
state of the federation and we have been
adjudged as the most compliant university
by the Joint Admission and Matriculation
Board (JAMB)”, he said.
“Take for example, our admission quota for
the medical school is 150. It means we
cannot accept more than four students
from each state of the federation including
the FCT. This is why you have students who
meet the cut-off requirements but still
don't get admitted”, the Vice-Chancellor
explained.
Prof. Ambali, however, disclosed that only
about 7,800 applicants out of the 65,000
that sat for this year's post-UTME
screening of the University would be
admitted. He said that the management
had complained over this low admission
quota to the Joint Admission and
Matriculations Board (JAMB) through the
National Universities Commission (NUC).
"The management of the University had
written a letter to the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board (JAMB) through the
National Universities Commission (NUC)
over the matter with a view to looking into
it so that the allocation could be increased
in subsequent years," he said.
Prof. Ambali said that the University
expected a higher allocation of admission
slots with the present developments in the
institution, adding that it now has more
facilities, more academic programmes, and
more staff.
While speaking on the reason for
conducting UTME for a total number of
65,000 candidates, knowing full well that
the University could only admit 7,800, the
Vice-Chancellor said that it was borne out
of the quest to have the best students
admitted out of the whole lot.
Professor Ambali, who said that academic
stability is the highest selling point of the
university, added that the institution had
been able to set sustainable standard that
had now been the envy of all universities in
the country.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, assured
Nigerians that students' accommodation on
the campus has increased with more
private hostels coming up. He also
commented on the frosty relationship
between the Unilorin Chapter of the
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)
and the national ASUU, saying that the
University is working to bridge the gap.
