Most of the comments on this thread aptly describe the reason Nigeria is backward, no thanks to the 'prosperity-only' preachers/believers. It seems that majority of us make conclusion about anything and anybody considering only the present. This cannot be right. I know Mr. Desmond (not real name), an Okada rider in 2010 in the Agbara-Seme axis. He smokes anything and engages in various cross-border deals with his bike. There's this lady who works in a bank that is his regular customer who he rides to office every morning for some months. When he found out that the lady was single, he asked for her hand in marriage after dropping her off one early morning, then switched off his phones and disappeared from the route for some days, not knowing what her reaction would be. Fast forward, they have Three kids and live in their own fenced house in Agbara today. They've three cars; one for the wife, one for the man, and the other for the man's business and the man didn't add any degree to his SSC. The man respects the wife for accepting his proposal, while the lady respects her husband having observed him for months as a responsible okada man. The man is from Imo State and they already have a house in the village. Many people use themselves as template for everything and quickly jump to conclusion even in matters they should listen and learn. @OP you can marry even a masters degree holder as a wife, it all depends on your area, attitude, disposition and grace. Dream on and always work on yourself. Whoever rejects you doesn't deserve you. Don't forget you also have a unique self worth. Hold nothing against anybody that rejects you but never stop pursuing your dream with positive attitude. |
When the catholic church and other earlier churches were preaching moderate lifestyle irrespective of your financial and intellectual status, as one of the signs of humility (including an oath to poverty for their priests, which was the hallmark of the early christian teachings: many of the missionaries that brought christianity to africa died poor materially but rich in evangelical feats), the 'passion driven' today's preachers insisted the opposite was the way. Excessive show of material wealth took over the evangelical space and gave rise to the 'anti-christian FRC law. THE DANGER AHEAD Because of the wrong application of freely-given spiritual gifts by the ignorant 'know-it-all christians', Ecclesiastical Authority has now been technically surrendered to secular government comprising majorly atheists and islamic religion followers. If this trend is allowed to stay, where spiritual gifts are regulated by secular law, then the fate of christians in the next 10 years or more in Nigeria will be comparable to that of the early christians, which will drive many to islam as been speculated in many quarters. The implementation of the FRC law is not a redeem church problem as similar or worse controversy awaits other churches whenever it's time to change their leadership, it should rather be a source of concern to all true followers of christ that have the minutest form of vision. CHRISTIANS ARISE AND DEFEND YOUR FAITH, FOR THE SAKE OF THE NEXT GENERATION |
If boko haram still have the capacity and effrontery to coordinate and attack a military formation, what then is the fate of the persons recently returned to their villages from the various IDP camps? Perhaps, they remain safe as far as the boko boys don't remember their communities. May they never remember those communities again! Just thinking aloud! |
vodutive:Wake up dear and don't glorify wilful ignorance. It's more like saying a commissioner for town planning doesn't know the number of towns in his state; why not take up the state's map and count the towns physically? The Niger Delta concession map contains all the oil blocks in Nigeria in the producing basins. While you may not know the rights owners as it keeps changing due to farm-in farm-out and other clauses, you can physically count all the blocks in Nigeria within 30 minutes. Please call a spade a spade, that guy is not smart. |
Fellow Nigerians, can we for once be realistic in our dealings and expectations. While it is good news and a welcome development to know we can feed ourselves, I'm still surprised at how many educated adults in Nigeria still fall for the antics of the career politicians. FACTS: 1. The land mass for rice cultivation in Ebonyi State should be twice the size in Anambra State. 2. Anambra has a standard irrigation for rice farmers(Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority), even though they still plant rice once in a year because it's non-functional, but Ebonyi has no irrigation farm for rice production or for any other crop. 3. Anambra State govt has shown a great support for rice farmers in the State through introduction of high yield seedlings (e.g. Farrow 44), and the provision of loans (up to 10m per selected farmer) for standard processing (De-stoning machines) for wider acceptability; Ebonyi farmers have received little or no support from their govt. 4. Anambra State currently produce more tons of rice than Ebonyi State despite the fact that Ebonyi farmers thought their Anambra counterparts, and they also have access to larger land mass. The difference is govt support. 5. If all the inhabitants of Enugu town decide to eat only Abakaliki rice from August that harvest normally begins, not even a grain of it will remain by January 6. Anambra rice has more acceptability status than Abakaliki rice due to the 'de-stoning' addition to their processing, because of govt support So friends, no matter what the politicians push to the media, you need to think it through because Ebonyi State Gov. is not even planning to initiate irrigation project in his state (to my knowledge), or support the farmers significantly but to boost his public image as if Abakaliki rice was not there before he was born. If Calabar people turn to Abakaliki rice, it will disappear in the market before 3 months at that rate, and we are back to Even the federal govt support for the farmers can only be short-lived without a sustainable program and the will to increase what we have on ground. In summary, there is a need to expand our local capacity in food (rice) production by laying foundations for such growth, rather than jump around all over the news media celebrating career politicians as if there is a new piece of land added to the existing ones for rice production. Thanks |
Even if these 'leaders' declare their assets today, it's already late after occupying an office for more than one year. The question is, was it an omission on their part or an outright negligence of our laws? Can they truly enforce some laws in their various ministries while refusing to obey other laws? Hope our leaders know that trust is better earned. |
But I'm yet to see the so called riches on the woman or the building at her background. Can anyone spot any riches around her! |
dafuturis:My own question is "why should any sane person think of establishing grazing reserve in the states with the smallest land mass when dozens of such reserves can be created in other spme states without encroaching inhabited areas of causing more pain and strain among indigenous dwellers"? |
My only surprise is that many Nigerians still think anything will come out of all these allegations. All arms of government in Nigeria are corrupt;the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. This 'institutional corruption' could be the only reason why the so called fight against corruption overlooks former president Jonathan that approved fund for Dasuki, Olisa Metu and Co. that received those funds and 'utilized' for the agreed purposes. These people are fighting personal ego battles with public resources and Nigerian are feeling entertained with such wastage. I listened to Hon. Jubril on Channels yesterday and he even indicted himself; the budget BTW the witches from the villages of the accused persons' are doing this right now!

With re-structuring, Nigeria can be greater than anyone had imagined. Without re-structuring, any progress will be reversed after few decades at most. Yes, the unity of the various Nigerian ethnic nationalities is very important but the terms of our existence have to be fair and seen to so by the majority, which is not the case now. |
The minister is making sense but would it always be in reaction to a concluded damage? One does not need a prophet to predict the mass sack in the banking industry due to the changes in the economy, including the TSA Does the govt expect people to do business without profit? |
God have mercy! taemilola: |
Funkybabee:The statement of Osun being a failed state is rather to the extreme and should not arise here. However, this program is not and cannot be sustainable from an objective point of view. Let's assume it costs two hundred naira to feed a child/meal/day, Assuming schools are in session for 3 Months/term (12 Weeks) i.e. 5days a week x 12 Weeks a term = 60 days/term i.e. 60days x 3 terms = 180days/annum 200 x 24,000,000 = 4,800,000,000 i.e. 4.8 Billion naira per day on this program Therefore, expected cost of implementing this program per annum is: 4,800,000,000 x 180days = 864,000,000,000 The question is 'do you objectively think that this can be sustained knowing full well the outcome of it in both Osun and Kaduna states, given the current economic realities? My opinion though. |
Congrats to them. Good gesture there. Btw a good measure of the strength of any economy is the %age of the workforce. When more than 60% of the supposed workforce are dependent on government for food and mass marriage, then real growth and development is not in sight. Many states in Nigeria belong to this category, Borno State inclusive. |
Only wisdom is needed at this time in Nigeria. 'Gragra' cannot get us anywhere? Whether Nigeria can survive these challenges depends largely on the wisdom of the so called elders, i.e. if they are really wise. |
We have our various opinions but remember these; 1) That violence cannot solved any problem (NDA and their supporters) 2) That military threats or clamp down can only suppress an idea but cannot kill it (FGN and their supporters) How I wish we should all be proffering solution for way forward. We are now between the devil and the deep blue sea and our seemingly irreconcilable differences are getting wider. NIGERIANS BE WISE. A TERRIBLE TIME IS AHEAD OF US! |
Toktee:@Toktee No nation in history had ever conquered agitation through violent engagement and remain peaceful. Obvious example is Libya. Remember the USA's forceful interference in many nations also gave birth to terror groups. They may actually see the 'real Buhari' just as Gadafi saw the real US, but guess what, the trouble he will create will outlive all of us, that is if we overcome. Diplomatic routes still exist, I think. |
Kudos to the great NA. However, there is a lot of work awaiting the NA regarding these boko boys before the much publicized re-settlement of the IDPs, despite the party media politics of the 'technical win'. If boko haram can confront a group of fully armed soldiers consciously, what's the fate of the civilians when they are left alone with NPF in the remote villages? |
The Day 'TRUTH' will Appear in Bikini in Nigeria: Can there ever be a forum in Nigeria especially this time around, that will feature the following persons to talk about the economy: 1. Femi Adesina 2. Garba Shehu 3. Lai Mohammed 3. Femi Aribisala 4. Martin Onovo 6. Any other person At a time like this, 'pocket' lawyers and 'pocket' economists always twist facts to suite their views. Why all Nigerians are not expected to be in the above two professions, they all have the right for proper understanding about their country which I think such a forum will help address. This will also put more people in the know regarding the real facts about the country's economic stand, making it difficult for such people to be deceived by intellectual deceits. Can the NBA, NUJ or any media house do this for our dear country? |
