Unlimited22: Sénégal are heading to CAS. Good. Senegal has no case. They broke the rules and now they are facing the consequences whether it's harsh or not. If anything this sends a clear message: no team can just walk off the pitch because a decision doesn’t go their way and It sets a precedent. From the announcement: It is declared that the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), through the conduct of its team, infringed Article 82 of the Regulations of the Africa Cup of Nations. Article 82
If, for any reason whatsoever, a team withdraws from the competition or does not report for a match, or refuses to play or leaves the ground before the regular end of the match without the authorisation of the referee, it shall be considered looser and shall be eliminated for good from the current competition. The same shall apply for the teams previously disqualified by decision of CAF. |

I have a sneaky feeling one team is going to mount an exceptional comeback and Newcastle to cause an upset. I can see us scoring thrice against PSG but no way we don't concede at least twice. |

Yamal stats from this game is ridiculously poor.
0 dribble attempted .
0 chances created
20 possession lost.
68% pass accuracy.
The penalty spared his blushes from a disaster of a performance. |

patrickmuf: Trippier was on the bench telling his teammates that it was 3 minutes, asking them to calm down but for some reason, they thought a one-goal lead heading to the Camp Nou was not enough, they pushed forward, lost the ball and got punished. Fortune favors the brave. With this result they will be more focused going into next week rather than trying to relax on a solo goal lead. |

They are also favorites to win the ucl after Bayern
We can’t really predict who will win the ucl ,but you see that epl ,you better give up your hate watch as arsenal already won it All these glazing is premature. They are 7 points with a game ahead of City. If city win their outstanding game it's just 4 points and they are also going to the Etihad. If City beat them at Etihad they will bottle the league. We have seen Arsenal fumble the league from this sort of position before. |

It wasn’t even Pep who really pushed 4-4-2 out of England it was Mourinho. He exposed the structural weakness of 4-4-2 against a three-man midfield with his 4-5-1 and once that door was opened, there was no going back. Even Ferguson had to switch up his formation and adopt to keep up. |

Same lineups at their prime, Same tactics used when they were at their prime who wins?
I was watching Atletico vs Barcelona today and was wondering how any of those defenders in previous times will handle the types of aggressive press today Psg would win 7/10 times. I was able to rewatch the 2003 final vs Juventus and no way they cope against the high pressing and relentless pressure of Psg tho they were quite solid defensively. https://archive.org/details/2003UCLFinalACMilanVs.Juventus1stHalf |

popizaino: I beg to differ the luxury is not rare. The recent crop of players are not just quality enough
There is still this luxury afforded to these players, but they do not just have the quality enough to do what is attacking enough.
Things that were done effortlessly by previous players now seems like rocket science to present day players.
For example at Chelsea i have seen Enzo Fernández having a bad touch even with minimum pressure. Can't simply turn on his marker.
I have seen enough midfielder in the age refuses to give a diagonal pass because he is unsure of himself and will resort to safe back passing. I get your point about quality but I don’t think it’s just a drop in technical level. Even average players today are learning to be very good on the ball. The game itself has changed. Midfield pressure today is far more coordinated and constant. Pressing isn’t random anymore like before it’s structured, rehearsed and relentless. Space between the lines is much tighter, and midfielders receive the ball with opponents already in contact range. So what looked effortles before often came with a yard or two more space and slightly slower defensive transitions. Even when it looks like minimum pressure the passing lanes are usually blocked. Safe passing today is often tactical discipline, not fear. Teams build in controlled phases. Losing the ball centrally now can instantly lead to a transition chance because teams counter-press aggressively. The margin for error today is thinner not that the overall technical level has collapsed. |

rooftops: This stat just makes one believe football has gotten boring. Defenders are now having more passes than midfielders. There was a period in our match where Sanchez had more touches than any other player on the field.
Added to the ridiculous corner kick tactics most teams employ and lack of true dribblers, I will say football has really gotten boring Team are now better in winning midfield battles even with average players. There was a time when a central midfielder could receive the ball, turn comfortably, and assess options. Now, with teams staying compact and squeezing central areas, that luxury is rare. The second the ball goes into midfield, there is instant pressure so instead of turning and progressing play, the safer option is often to lay it back to the centerbacks and reset. Infact Centerbacks are now more crucial in build up play than ever that's why comparing players of different era is a no no. |

joseph1832: I still wonder, even with all those big burger and money spending, The U.S have a number of L in their closet. In Libya, Vietnam, Somalia, Iraq etc. Later you see them giving big money to Hollywood to remake movies about didn't happen in those places, just to program the minds of those who don't know better.
We both know anytime the U.S enter into any crisis, they usually leave more harm and damage than what was before. Just because they didn't achieve their objective doesn't mean they Lost. The US military won nearly every war they fought in Vietnam and Iraq. It toppled the governments of Iraq and Afghanistan in a matter of weeks. |

afrodoc: Just competent in all those positions. Versatility should be graded according to the actual quality.
Ruud Gullit played 3 positions at world class and a few others at elite level.
Luis Enrique played 3 positions at elite level and was good in a few others.
Matthaus and Lahm were world class at 3 positions.
Di Stefano was GOAT level in about 4-5 positions. John Charles was a world class CF and CB.
Milner's versatility and longevity are not in doubt though. The caveats are that his versatility was not with top quality and his longevity in actual minutes played is a little less impressive.
Ruud Gullit is the most versatile player of the modern era. 6'3 tall, strong as an ox, fast as a horse, supreme shooting and passing, aerial dominance, tackling, game IQ.
Di Stefano might have a claim since he got to GOAT level playing about 4-5 positions I agree with most of your post. I get the quality based argument but I think it underrates what James Milner actually did. Versatility shouldn't only be about being world class in multiple roles, it’s also about credibly performing across a wide range of positions for top teams over many seasons. Managers trusted him in those multiple roles because he could execute the job at a high tactical level especially in an era more specialized, physically demanding where positional discipline is ruthless and mistakes get punished instantly. Obviously not as talented or world class as Guillet and others but the amount of positions he played in and did well in should put up him up there. |

Ibime: Luis Enrique who played every position except Goalkeeper, same with Ruud Gullit
The CF for Milner is a bit suspect and he can't play CB
Enrique and Gullit played every position and did it well. The only position I would rule out for Gullit is LB I will give you gullit but definitely not Luis Enrique. Don't think he played in defense. Anyways I was actually trying to show how versatile Milner has been. |
