Look for something else to use as defense for him. I am not defending him as I myself am curious on what has happened to your defense recently. Are you confidently telling me you are not bothered about your current defensive frailty? |

If you dey watch matches you would know this.
You don't even know how to troll at all. 😏 He isn't talking about since the beginning of the season but your recent form. 6 goals conceded in your last 4 games and conceding twice each to Bournemouth and Southampton. Even you can't deny alarm bells are ringing with how teams now easily create chances against you especially when that department was your strongest. |

Our attackers should have also scored 1 to make it easier for us
Yeah I believe we are winning Laliga sha The red card to Barcelona was actually a joke. He wasn't in control of the ball and it was even behind him which was why the ref gave the initial yellow but as usual Var had to step in for a decision it wasn't needed. You actually still played well even with the red card and Athletico played scared even with a man advantage. They are a terrible team and you can win them away. |

But with how the game went, It feels like we didnt take advantage we had and kill them totally They also didn't take advantage of their numerous chances. 2:1 is a good result unless you are scared you won't be able to defeat them at home. I dont see how you lose at home. |

Messi,Suarez,Neymar
Ralphina,Lewandowski,Yamal.
If they took the same amount of games to score the same amount of goal does that mean they are on par in talents or even close? They are not on par on individual talent but that's only half the story. It's impressive that they have matched MSN goal tallies as a collective. Individually Firmino, Mane and Salah are the not greatest talents but collectively they were one of the most frightening front three in world football history. |

raumdeuter: Man Utd was not parking the bus when Vidic was running things there, Man Utd wont park the bus. Nesta who played under Sven Goran Erikson at Lazio was one of the more attacking teams and in Milan under Ancelotti was not playing in a park the bus tactic nor Canavaro when he as playing at Juventus
In the CL group stage, Bayern conceded 8 goals in 8 games, Barcelona conceded 14 goals in 8 games. Nobody said anything about parking the bus. All those teams were using low to mid blocks. Nesta, Vidic, Cannavaro etc all made their name playing in a low to mid block and they were considered great defenders. Did you meet the same opponents in the group stage? |

AirBere: Exactly. The system is atrack focused leaving the defense so porous but Curbasi and especially Inigo Martinez mastered that high-line/off side trap system last season...
Eric and Martin nope. Curbasi is trying though. The point is no matter who you partner under a Flick system they will always concede goals and give chances to the opponents right from his Bayern days. Last season with Martinez they also conceded 39 league goals. If Flick can get players like Martin and Eric García to succeed in a highline and still compete for trophies then playing in a highline clearly isn’t that difficult like dayo is making it out to be. |

AirBere: They're not excelling. Their GK is suffering and getting man of the match in most Liga games and could be Laliga player of the season if they win it. That's not a good look on a defence you claim to be excelling.
They're are a good team but so porous at the back and leave every team with a chance. Is it really about the quality of defenders or more about the system they are in? Even at Bayern with top defenders and Neuer they conceded a lot of goals under Flick and the same happened with Germany. Clearly, it's the system not individual players. |

raumdeuter: Bastoni has only excelled in the type of football that Akanji Darmian and Dimarco do Playrs who are average He will have to excel in a different style to be considered in the mould of Maldidni who excelled in a high line under Sacchi and Capello
How is Gerard Martin and Eric Garcia excelling in a high line when Barcelona defence currently is the weakest among the top teams Nesta, Cannavaro, Vidic etc only excelled in the type of football that Akanji Darmian and Dimarco do. Players who are average too. That doesn't stop them from being regarded as great. They have only conceded 3 more league goals than Bayern Munich in 2 less games. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Kimbeast: 6:45pm On Apr 03 |
raumdeuter: Commuity defending is using plenty bodies to defend, So you are depending on others helping you out. Its easier when you have 7 bodies defending the box vs when you have 3 bodies defending from far away
Players like Maldini are regarded as greats because they could do the High line defending(At Milan) and low block defending (In Italian NT)
Bastoni has never shown he is competent at defending, he looks decent in the same style that allows Akanji and Darmian to look like defensive juggernauts I am not asking for a definition of community defending. The question is why should players who excel at it today not be praised, while those who excelled at it in the past are considered great. That's the key question you have ignored. There are so many defenders from the past hailed as great, yet they never played a high line and today’s high line is nothing like what Maldini experienced under Sacchi. I mean, if average players like Gerrard Martin and Eric García can excel and win trophies playing the same high line, how hard can it really be. |

AirBere: Dona may not start for Spain. His ball playing ability is atrocious, almost comical. He's a world class shot stopper, no questions about that. Currently, i don't think he's much better than Raya.
His poor goal kick led to a panic tackle from Batsoni who was sent off which grossly affected the result of that game.
Degea was in his prime and a great shot stopper like Dona but eventually was benched for a better ball playing GK in Unai Simon. Who hacked airbere account lol. We argued this thing last year and I remember you were on the side of shotstopping so what changed. AirBere: Yeah you can be that's why we agreed that it's not straightforward. I prefer a goal keeper who is elite at shot stopping but average at ball playing. It's why I'll pick keepers like Degea, Selz, ahead of keepers like Onana, Raya. Na choice.
On yesterday's game, based on what I saw, Dona was the difference for PSG especially in the early part of the game. If Arsenal score there and make it 1:1 agg then PSG would've entered panic mode and eventually knocked out. But I respect what you saw so won't dwell on that. In addition to all this, Dona clears Raya as a goal keeper. |

Actually players like Maldini played an excelled in the high line under Sacchi and Capello. You can only point at the red vs England but you must also remember that he gave a masterclass that day. A starter in that winning side. No go there. He is a world cup winner as Dembele is also a world cup winner. We all know the main player who carried the team to those triumph. |

raumdeuter: They were great in their time, If Bastoni had played in the 80s maybe they would have called him a world class player but today he is not a world class player today in todays world
Greatness is a function of the time you are, Ghenghis Kahn was a great in his time, if he brought his methods today, small boys with guns will level him It seems you are confused. Should a player who does well in community defending be praised or not? The answer is either yes or no. You can’t say Bastoni isn’t good because he plays in community defending and he's being protected and then call another player a great for doing the same thing their entire career. |

raumdeuter: John Terry was the most overrated Center back of his time, Very mediocre which was why he failed at crucial moment, he couldn't deliver top trophies for neither club nor country
Maldini will point to his exploits at CL and world cup like USA 94, Boateng will point to world cup 2014 and multiple CL
what will Terry point at? a tackle vs Ipswich? Your opinion on Terry is noted. Now will Maldini stand for Boateng using the picture you earlier posted? |

raumdeuter: You are considered great when compare to what you did against your peers
If they play today they would be compared to today. They were compared to their peers in those days and were the best
Jesse Owens was the fastest man in 1940, If he ran the same time today he wont even make top 30. So in your line of thought was Jesse Owens oveerrated Community defending is community defending no matter the era. You already admitted it’s what helped them. Doing it within that system isn’t impressive, because they are inherently protected just like you implied with your Bastoni comments. That’s the key point am focused on. So in a nut shell you are rubbishing their legacy and greatness. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Kimbeast: 5:12pm On Apr 03 |
raumdeuter: Terry has no business in any conversation for top Center backs. He was a failure at the peak moments He only enjoyed the English tax John Terry is one of the greatest center backs of all time. That’s an objective fact regardless of your feelings. Now will Maldini stand for Boateng when great center backs are being discussed? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Kimbeast: 5:10pm On Apr 03 |
raumdeuter: The center backs are great in their time but in this days most of them will not survive this era unless they adjust to modern era By your logic, that would mean they fall short compared to today’s center backs, right? So calling them overrated would be appropriate. That means they cannot objectively be called the greatest of all time. |

raumdeuter: Make Bastoni put body for high line and see if his cardio wont fail him
The low block that is making Darmian and Akanji look like maestros in defence, Even Ashley Young looked decent. When you have multiple players to cover you in low blocks your mistakes are not easily seen, Players like Savic wil fail out of City and Fiorentina then go have a great career at Atletico community defence school If I asked you to list the greatest center backs of all time, nearly all the names you would mention spent their careers in a low block. By saying that you are admitting that past center backs are overrated and would not survive in todays game. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Kimbeast: 5:00pm On Apr 03 |
raumdeuter: Your analogy is not clear
Boateng a key member of a world cup and multiple CL defence winning team Maldini A key member of multiple CL winning team Umtiti a key member of a world cup winning defence Terry was neither a key member of a CL winning defence nor a member of a world cup team
So if we are to put the odd one out that would be Terry Nobody in world football would ask Terry to stand for Umtiti likewise Maldini for Boateng. The point is straightforward. |
