HeavenlyBang: I feel you. I'd pick a V8 over a supercharged V6 anytime too.
That 7-speed is a dual clutch transmission, right? Those things can be very expensive. Very very expensive. The 6-speed is likely the safer option.
There's also the factor of Coupe vs Sportback. 2 doors vs 4 doors with a great design.
And, no, you're not derailing the thread. yes its a dual clutch, i might risk it because of how fast that transmission is. Even the 7 speed on a E350 is a joy to drive, imagine a 7 speed dual clutch on a sports car. I dont really mind the bodystyle, anyone goes for me. I just recently added the s5 to my list of options, g37s and s5 are the frontrunners E63s is still a long shot |
Car Talk › Re: Life And Times Of An Infiniti G35 by king406(m): 10:24pm On Jul 06, 2019 |
HeavenlyBang: True, true, a supercharged V6 IIRC.
Edit: I just checked. The S5 Sport back and Convertible has a 3.0 L supercharged V6 making about 330 HP. Same with the S4. Only the S5 Coupe has the 4.2L V8 making 350 HP.
All cars have similar performance numbers. 0-60, 1/4 miles, etc. Unless you're looking for a V8 specifically, I'm not sure why you'd be looking at the S5, since only the coupe comes in V8 form.
If I were you, I'd be looking at the S5 Sportback with the 330 HP SC V6. I've also not heard any major negative talk about that engine. Though I guess the 4.2L V8 is just more reliable since it's more tested. I’m avoiding the V6 because of the supercharger, i’m thinking it’ll be more prone to problems than the naturally aspirated V8. Besides, put a V6 and a V8 side by side, i’ll almost always pick a the V8. Now my dilemma is the V8 only comes with either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto, the V6 comes with a 7 speed dual clutch automatic, i really love the idea of that 7 speed. There’s just so much to consider, i dont even know which car to focus on, i want them all . Hope i’m not derailing your thread. |

HeavenlyBang: Ah, an S5. A man of culture, I see. Why not an S4, though? Unless you're looking for a coupe? i’m looking at 2010-2013 S5, which has a V8 option. S4 of those years come with V6 only |

HeavenlyBang: The Ecoboost is a great engine, tbh. I actually included it in my list above at first but took it off before posting.
Definitely up there with the greatest engines we've seen in a long time. Small displacement, decent power, big torque, and reliable. There's not much to not like about it. i dont mind turbocharging a v6 engine at all, but if i was to choose, i’d pick a naturally aspirated V8. I just hate the idea of turbocharging tiny engines, i dont like the way they feel, which was the first thing that came to mind as soon as i read ecoboost. |

HeavenlyBang: Lol, leave us alone. Nissan has a lot of street racing pedigree.
I still stan the GTR.
But yeah, the Mercedes hype is getting ridiculous. What are your thoughts on your IS vs your previous German cars? nurey was not only talking trash about mercedes, but all of germany, that means including bmw and porsche. My IS has held its own greatly, i havent pushed it as much as i thought i would because of the kidnapping going on along abj-kaduna road. I initially bought the car for the purpose of my weekly trips, i wanted something that pushed out 300hp+ without the high maintenance cost of something like an 2009-2011 E550, though that has about 380hp but it was what i had in mind at first. It is definitely not even a close comparison to my previous C230, no need to waste time on that. Performance wise, it is quicker than my E350 but i feel more confident with the benz on high speed. The lexus is more nimble and stiff which makes it feel more performance oriented. My only complain about the lexus is the transmission, not that its bad, but i feel the difference 1 less gear makes compared to the mercedes. I am more confident overtaking with the transmission on that benz than the 6 speed on the IS. However, i always find myself going in the IS whenever i feel like driving quick, i have been getting 5.7-5.9secs to 60mph. It is a very tight call between the IS and my previous 335i. One thing is clear, the bmw was more balanced at high speeds and had better handling. It also had a better transmission, 0-60 pull feels pretty equal, too close to call i dont know which to pick. But the bmw definitely felt faster on the higher end, probably because of the turbochargers, that thing does not stop pulling. Overall, i’d buy the IS over and over again, very solid car and it has been reliable too, it is a car you buy when you want to drive fast but dont want anybody to know |

nurey: Benz no offend me at all at all, nah the Benz or nothing fans dey always try to re-write history the wrong way, we have to put a check to that agreed. The hype over mercedes has become out of hand, especially from those who know nothing about cars, its annoying. But find a better way to argue, nissan will not win you anything. |

Whats the mileage on your car? Previous owner probably did not do oil changes often or used low quality oil. If it is really a rod knock you can rebuild the engine or replace with a new one. |

deathwing: Mehn. I'm really sorry about this demonic problem. It happened to me too and the only solution was a complete engine cleaning before I sold the car. Apparently, this is a factory fault sometimes (according to my investigation). And even the cleaning is not guaranteed to solve the problem. It solved it in mine, thankfully.
The oil pressure error is caused by oil sludge clogging the engine. This problem occurs faster if you use low-quality oil (like Mobil 1). I used only Castrol but the person i bought it from Used Mobil 1.
Anyways, you need to contact a professional car technician and ask for comprehensive scan before you spend any extra money. If the scanner doesn't bring a fault, then the scanner is not for the car.
I managed to solve it in Lagos, and I had already written directions to the place before i saw you were in Calabar. Good luck. how Is mobil 1 bad?? |

Readonee35L: It's the valves . Experienced it in the pilot, Timing skipped and about 6 or 8 valves got bent, they were replaced, plus new timing belt. Vehicle was perfect afterwards . but it started ticking at idle like Toyota's 2gr-fe v6 so the solution is valve adjustment? Could it be timing belt tensioner? |
