As for me, I was never a BB fan o. But I have to thank bbm for so many things. BBM groups gave me 30 friends from all over nails who are arsenal fans to engage in active discussions 24/7. It helped me find crucial jobs while reading status updates. I didn't have to go searching for new status updates. I am also assured of security and privacy with bbm.

samieiyke: I don't mean to take sides with whatsapp but Have you seen "whatsapp plus"? Do you not think whatsapp is currently working on how to tackle bbm's new strategy? Besides bbm won't work on all device and I won't stop chating with ma friends cos their phone doesn't support bbm.

I dunno what whatsapp plus is sha but as for the whatsapp I know, it doesn't come close to BBM. BBM does everything whatsapp does and more. Is there anything whatsapp does that BBM can't do?

There are many more which WhatsApp doesn't have. Apparently from that, BBM is the most secure IM available today. WhatsApp is extremely porous. The other day a student posted 3 different ways to hack and monitor WhatsApp messages. I can see status updates easily on BBM as opposed to WhatsApp which makes it easy to know the latest news

What does d hype have to do with the messenger? Is it a movie? Will u use it once and throw it away? It's something to be used in everyday life. When WhatsApp came out there was no hype. In fact d only messenger that came with hype is WeChat and upon all d Lionel Messi where are they? Who here uses WeChat?

It's not about hype or lack of hype. It's the functionality of d app. And when all is said and done, BBM is d best. Hands down

Erm... Why would it die? When it lasted on a bleeped up device like blackberry?

I think going cross platform will blow WhatsApp right out of the water. BBM is so much better than WhatsApp. So if WhatsApp is still alive, why would BBM die?

Bbm tho..... they run their business like a Communist nation. How can't we have news for like 3 weeks on the application? What rubbish is that?

U have a point but it's nice to know you have access to all your contacts instantly. I thank God for Bbm. it helped me get my first job. So many opportunities if you use it well.

Most people don't use whatsapp because it doesn't have that real-time update feel about it. It also doesn't have the full functionality Bbm carries.

I am in an arsenal group on Bbm. We are 30. I've never seen any of them face to face but they are like brothers and sisters to me because of Bbm.

You can get news updates without even going to twitter through Bbm.

It's miles ahead of whatsapp. Not to mention the pin which sets it apart. Pin is very important because it separates the phone from the application. It gives you the ability to segment your social life on Bbm from other aspects if you choose. That's the beauty of Bbm. I can't wait for it to come out.

The only reason I changed is the hardware.

Having Bbm on android would be like having the best of both worlds

Bb is a disgrace, so they just have 60m users over 200m of whatsapp na him dem dey complain of server. It's a shame really. WhatsApp all d way Jor.

Guy calm down. If WhatsApp was better nobody would concern themselves with this release. The fact is that bbm has the most functionality of any modern mobile IM application it's only downfall is the device it was used on.

Add Nokia, iPhone, All android phones(SAMSUNG, MOTOROLA,LG, HTC......) and even blackberry itself all use WhatsApp. And yet there are only 3 times as many users as bbm which is limited to one device. They were also frontrunners when it came to mobile IM technology.

Conclusion; blackberries might be crap but bbm is legendary

Hi Android and iPhone users,

This is Andrew Bocking, head of BBM at BlackBerry. As a follow up to our first blog post on Saturday, I want to take a moment to provide you with an update on the rollout of BBM on Android and iPhone.

Last week, an unreleased, older version of the BBM for Android app was posted on numerous file sharing sites. We were aware of an issue with this unreleased version of the BBM for Android app. This older version resulted in volumes of data traffic orders of magnitude higher than normal for each active user and impacted the system in abnormal ways. The version we were planning to release on Saturday addressed these issues, however we could not block users of the unreleased version if we went ahead with the launch.

We attempted to address the problems caused by the unreleased version throughout the day on Saturday, but as active users of the unreleased app neared a million – and accelerated – it became clear that the only way to address the issue was to pause the rollout for both Android and iPhone.

The team is now focused on adjusting the system to completely block this unreleased version of the Android app when we go live with the official BBM for Android app. We are also making sure that the system is reinforced to handle this kind of scenario in the future. While this may sound like a simple task – it’s not. This will take some time and I do not anticipate launching this week.
