HealthWhy You Really Are Extra Tasty To Mosquitoes by Kingbilo(op): 5:30am On May 10, 2015
(CNN)With the exception of maybe a mosquito's mother, the world is unified in its hatred of the little critters. But the world seems divided by those the bugs ignore and those who too often become the blood soup du jour. This may seem random, but scientist say there is a real reason for it: blame your parents.

For the first time, scientists discovered a possible genetic reason why some of us are mosquito magnets, at least according to a pilot study from the London School of Hygiene &Tropical Medicine. It's published in the recent edition of PLOS ONE.

To figure this out, scientists released Aedes aegypti, also known as dengue mosquitoes, into a tube. The tube was divided into two sections. The bugs were essentially given a choice to swipe left or swipe right and fly down either side.

At the other end of the tube were a pair of twins. Eighteen identical and 19 nonidentical female twins volunteered to be mosquito meat. With these pairs, scientists saw a difference in who the bugs chose. When the twins were identical, the two would either be equally attractive or not attractive to the mosquitoes. When the twins were not identical, the choice varied. That, scientists say, suggests there is a genetic component to the mosquito law of attraction. Identical twins have identical genes. With fraternal twins, there are differences.

This gene that makes people more attractive might influence how someone smells to the insect.

This research builds on earlier studies that show a person's body odor may play a role in who gets bitten more. Earlier studies have found people with a particular type and volume of bacteria that naturally occurs on skin may make people more of a target. Same with people with Type O blood, which is linked to a particular odorant marker in sweat.

Pregnant women sweat more because pregnancy raises their average body temperature about 1.26 degrees, so they are bitten more often. The same has been shown with people who are heavier.

Knowing how this works will not keep you safe from the little buggers this summer, scientists need to do more research. But eventually, this may mean researchers could figure out a way to neutralize this particular odor, if that's what the mosquitoes like. This could mean fewer mosquito bites, and it may mean fewer cases of yellow fever and dengue since these particular bugs are often the carriers of these viruses.

In the meantime, Missy Henriksen from the National Pest Management Association suggests people wear the bug repellant that is on the market any time you go outside.

"We've gotten pretty good about sun screen, but people need to get better about protecting themselves against insects as well, since mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance. They carry disease."

Henriksen and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend using products that have one of four active ingredients. Check the label for DEET, picaridin, IR3535 and/or lemon eucalyptus and para-methane-diol products. These products are effective, and they are registered with the EPA (meaning the EPA believes the chemical will only hurt the mosquitoes not you).

Henriksen also suggests you may want to wear shirts with long sleeves and long pants if you can stand it in the heat of summer.

"Bugs (are less likely to) bite what they can't access," she said. And hopefully someday, bugs won't be able to suck what they can't smell.

BusinessRe: Dangote Cannot Afford To Buy Arsenal Football Club – Etcetera by Kingbilo(m): 9:18am On May 09, 2015
Lol. Your article started well at the topic.. The rest is crap... Dangote not being able to buy arsenal is actually for the exact opposite of the reasons you state.. Arsenal is making too much money.. It is the best run football club in the world.. The current major shareholders, kroenke and usmanov don't put a cent into running arsenal football club. Instead they collect bonuses.. The reason arsenal can't be bought by dangote is because the perceived value of the club by the current owners is probably 10 times whatever Dangote is estimating and almost as much as dangote is currently worth

My very close female friend is an avid Madrid fan. She buys all the jerseys. Original jerseys o. With her own money. In fact if I want to know when Madrid is playing or the score for a game.. I just check her update. I love that about her. I think it's sexy sef. And it is one important thing among many others we have in common. Don't ever be scared to voice your interests. And no interests are gender specific. NONE. this is the modern world we live in.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Your Worst/weird Experience With Knockout(banger) While Growingup by Kingbilo(m): 1:57pm On Dec 16, 2014
We were in my home town house for Christmas and new year. My uncle had set up fireworks to light up the sky on new years Eve at the center of out family compound. The pyrotechnics went smoothly until one firework bent back at a 90 degree angle and headed towards the house. It flew just a few feet past my grandmother and into the kitchen (note the kitchen had 2 gas cylinders in it for Christmas cooking) where is exploded and light up the house like a Christmas tree. Luckily nothing caught fire. Needless to say that was the last time we every saw fireworks in the village again lol
BusinessRe: Fuel Subsidy Payment Drops To N4.48/litre by Kingbilo(m): 7:10am On Dec 16, 2014
Subsidy is basically being abolished by falling oil prices. Lol. I'm sure okonjo will be chuckling somewhere. You can #occupyNigeria over falling oil prices... "Only 5 naira to go and subsidy will no longer exist grin"

ichidodo:
Oil marketers and filling station owners are takin the piss out of Nigerians...If subsidy reduces due to fall in oil price then Pms price should fall or at worse remain stable.
Not necessarily.. Subsidy funding which is paid to marketers by the government could fall and subsidy will be extinguished by next year. Subsidy per litre falling should lead to subsidy payment by government falling freeing up cash for development of other projects

Godfullsam:
Fuel subsidy has dropped to its lowest ebb and we still pay close to hundred naira per litrehuh This adminitration is not only clueless but also dubious
Don't conclude yet.. I think the answer to your question will be revealed if fuel price keeps dropping. Once the landing price and selling price equalise there will be no need for subsidy and the government will have no leeway for corruption concerning subsidy matters simply because subsidy will no longer exist... Unless they change the selling price again to maintain a margin.. For now, I don't support that.

My brother, na true. Leave them jare.

Fact of the matter is, this man is singlehandedly responsible for most of the modern day Nigeria we see today. Be it bad history or good history, OBJ is indelibly woven into the fabric of Nigeria. I'm not a fan of OBJ from a political standpoint. But man to man , I stand in awe. Very few can achieve a thousandth of the things he achieved on a personal level. Even if you think he was the epitome of evil, it takes discipline and hardwork to reach the heights he has reached in so many different political environments.

I opened this link expecting one of those ready made picanto looking things every university does. This looks like it was actually built from scratch... I'm impressed. I'd like to look at the calculations and considerations uaed to build it tho. Hope there's a transmission. How did they decide on the suspension configuration etc. Did theyaactuallydo the aaerodynamics or just made it look like a fmla1 car?.. I want to see if it was actually bulit to race. Impressed so far sha.. Well done.

As for those talking about China students laughing etc. The important thing here is, what did they learn? Did tgey actually design a car or put stuff together to make it move? You can't condemn these guys until you look at the engineering design work tgat came along with it. That's where you can understand if they did a mechanic job or an engineering work. The manufacture will always be a bit shabby. This is Nigeria. Production is difficult. Cut them some slack on how it looks lol.

davitogreat: Right... So giving the funds to ghana, Rwanda and Uganda is so much better. Funny seeing the stupid comments in the thread.
I swear Nigerians can sometimes be some of the most stupid people you can ever come across. They think by by speaking ill of nigeria in every situation they are enlightened and forward thinking when Infact it's the opposite.
Nigeria has the fastest growing economy in Africa. USA funding Nigeria is like pouring water into a flowing well... It doesn't make a difference. If we can't fund our own security with our money it doesn't matter how much is given to us, it won't work out Bro

Leave them. Please let's be objective about this. The point is that if you look at the two apps, BBM is better at d moment by far. It doesn't matter if they have been killing new born babies to fuel their servers or treating ppl like dogs etc. Just look at the apps and be objective.
