I produce body and hair creams;soaps on a small scale. I do a lot of research on Renewable Energy and I know starting this kind of investment at this age gives me the chance to make a big company out of it at a nice age. I am a graduate of Chemistry and I want to pursue a career in the upstream oil and gas industry though I work in a different field now..I recently came across a training school here in Lagos that is offering courses.I have interest in enrolling for the the Assistant driller course...my questions are

1.the duration for the training is 10 days (classroom training and practical rig experience) Will this be ample time to get all the required knowledge one needs?
2.should I go ahead and apply for PGD program in petroleum engineering and later on go on to MSc in a university

3.How well recognized is the Institute of petroleum and drilling engineering IDPE in the the oil sector in Nigeria it seems new.

the certificates that will be offered after the training are 1. IADC, Assistant Driller Certificate under IADC Drilling Industry Training Certificate (DIT)
2. IADC HSE Rigpass Certificate
3. IADC Well Control Certificate, Mandatory for every drilling personnel coming on board a rig.
4. Man- management and Rig management certificate.
5. Rig inspection Certificate.
6. Practical Rig exposure Certificate

When i mean small i mean companies where salaries range from 20k per month to nothing at all wit staff made up of 10 people.the first job i got after graduation from school paid 20k/month and owed salaries for 3 to 4 months before we get paid but the experience i got from them is invaluable till i became a freelance service engineer.believe me it's as lucrative and challenging as any other regular jobs but also gives u freedom to be your own boss and do other stuffs as well.

nice thread but i would like advice all job seekers that rather than waitin for that phone call or email,i strongly advice dat additional skills should be obtained while waiting for the dream job.i started earlier rite from ma I.T days and got trained as a wellhead and xmas tree maintenance engineer wit a very small company while all my colleagues were busy goin to shell,total and schlums etc only to end up in the office for six month.today all that trainin paid off and im currently a freelance maintenance engineer.i charge any company on a per day basis and God has been so kind.no knowledge is too small.just go out and get a new skill
