Soldiers at the war front in Borno state have told newsmen on Tuesday, in Maiduguri, that Boko Haram insurgents have taken over Bama local government area after hours of fierce battle. According to a soldier, the insurgents were attacking them like flies. “You kill and kill and kill but these people are coming like flies. We have to withdraw and allow the Air force do their job. We do not know what is now on ground in Bama, but we have all withdrawn to Maiduguri. “My brother, Maiduguri is not safe. Please take your family as fast as you can out of Maiduguri to a safer place for now because if the Air force fails to finish these people in Bama, they will reground and advance to Maiduguri. We are not praying for that, but the truth is that, they are in large numbers. We killed over a thousand, but these boys are on drugs.” He said. Also on Monday night, another security source who was not authorised to speak to the press told DailyPost reporter that, as at 10:00 pm on Monday, they were told that, the insurgents have taken over Bama. He said they wanted to come to Maiduguri from Banki but could not do so due to the insurgents’ invasion of Bama. “We cannot come to Maiduguri because we were communicated that the insurgents have taken over and are inside Bama town now. Because of our weapons, we need to do one or two things to have passage through Cameroon. I did not call because I know that you people would be worried.” He said. Just few hours after the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic called off its 10-month old strike and asked polytechnic lecturers to resume on Tuesday, Abusidiqu has learnt that the minister of State for education, who until a few days ago was the supervising minister in the same ministry, has tendered his letter of resignation. A source within the camp of the minister confirmed that the letter of resignation which is expected to take effect from 14th July 2014, was submitted to President Goodluck Jonathan witin the week. Although, it is not immediately clear the reasons for the action of the minister, a source close to him confirmed that the minister resigned following the appointment of former Kano State governor, Shekaru as the substantive Minister, which effectively revert Wike to his original position as a junior minister in the ministry. Wike’s decision to resign his position could also be linked to his dilemma at home in Rivers State, where his hope of securing the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to succeed Governor Rotimi Amaechi at the Port Harcourt Government House has been dashed. READ: Rivers 2015: Presidency Dashes Wike’s Governorship Ambition, Minister Weeps READ: Rivers Guber: Shut Out By PDP, Wike May Decamp to APGA; Hold Talks with Umeh We was more than convinced that the ticket will be giving to him especially considering the role he played in the bitter political battle between President Jonathan and Governor Amaechi, but surprisingly he has been told by the President to drop his ambition. While overseeing the education ministry in supervisory capacity, Wike rather than resolve the industrial dispute between the government and the polytechnic lecturers ended up adding more problems to it. However, Shekarau, who only on Wednesday was sworn in as the substantive minister of education held a fruitful meeting with the leaders of the union on Thursday, the result of which is the suspension of the 10-month old strike by the union. |

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has closed its case in the trial of former Minister of Aviation and Tourism, Femi Fani-Kayode over a 40-count amended charge on money laundering, Vanguard reports. At a resumed hearing of the case in a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, counsel to the EFCC in a letter delivered by Mr. Vitalis Ahaotu to the presiding Judge, Justice Rita-Ofili Ajumogobia, the EFCC notified the court of the commission's intention to close the case against the former Minister. Counsel to Chief Fani-Kayode, Mr Wale Akoni did not object to the letter of closure but however informed the court of his intention to file a no-case submission to the charges against his client. The judge gave Mr Akoni 21 days to file a no case submission and adjourned the case till Oct. 28 for adoption of final written addresses. Continue... Femi Fani Kayode has been standing trial since December 2008 over a 47-count charge of money laundering which was amended in March 2014 with 7 of the charges dropped. Among the charges against him was that he transacted business with funds exceeding N500, 000 without going through a financial institution. ]Is this not laughable? Nothing will actually work until Nigerians decide to make it work. We shall continue to wallow in this situation until we sit down to effect a change. We have not seen anything yet. yap it is only in Ngeria things dont work |
