Darkprime:

Could have been good. But I still think Disney and Marvel should have shown more spine and set all of Phase 4 during the 5 year snap and put Endgame at the end of Phase 4. They could have had a Hawkeye film in the vein of Logan. And a smaller scale Black Widow film with Natasha having to pick up the pieces and operate in a world with mostly failed governments. It would have been an opportunity to do darker and more intimate character oriented films for a few years.

nyarlathotep:

The problem with that approach is the availability of the principle actors. Having Chris Evans and RDJ in Endgame takes precedence.
Evans and RDJ were out. Ruffalo is out because they can't do a strictly Hulk movie.

And the way that the snap happened, it appeared that on Earth specifically, outside the small cells that Hawkeye dealt with, it didn't appear that there were any "Avenger" level threats which is why Cap is working as a counselor and Tony is building a family.

Thor, yeah based on where they pick up his story would I think be alter his arc through the rest of Endgame.

Which leaves Hawkeye and Natasha.

Problem with a Hawkeye film is that it'd really just be strictly a Hawkeye film as it didn't appear that Natasha or anyone else had any contact with him during the snap. And it's not like he can get some sort of hopeful ending as even in his last mission as Ronin, he wasn't expecting Natasha being there. The only way I could see it work, as if they intercut his life during the snap with his life after it with people seeking revenge against him.

Sure you could have done a minor Black Widow mission BUT it seemed like she ran point at a practically empty Avengers facility for the remainder of the heroes but again to my point about Cap and Tony that I don't think there were any real Avenger threats on Earth during that time period.

I guess the whole Cavill v Cox with regards to Superman really depends on which actor was the better fit for the role.

That doesn't always mean that the better actor is the better fit for the part. There's always going to be an actor who's better than another actor. That really doesn't matter to me with regards to an actor fitting the part . The degree to which which actor is better trained , has more skills, is important but its not the be all and end all in the casting of these parts as we've seen through out the history of shhow biz.

In regards to who was the best to play Superman or Daredevil for that matter, I think the question is who is the better fit for the part.

Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Al Pacino were all better actors than Chris Reeve when Superman was cast , but it didn't mean they were therefore better fits for the Superman role.

There were better actors than Tom Welling and George Reeves when they were cast.

There were several thesp and established actors considered for the Bond role who were better actors than Sean Connery , but as history shows, he was the best fit for the role at that time.

You could go on and on with the casting of all of these films.

Imo, Cavill was the right fit for the Superman role. Is he Matt Damon, Leo DiCaprio, or Bale acting level wise? No , he's not.

But he certainly fit the part pretty well, all things considered, and with all the complaints about the Snyder films, none of them centered on Cavill as an actor.

Not even the most cynical fanboy has questioned his acting with regards to playing Superman.

If anything, the sentiment is that he got a raw deal with the scripts. Not saying he's been universally beloved, but it'd be a reach to argue that fans have been complaining about his acting level for eight years.

I remember the old days when we had 2 MCU films a year. It will be interesting to see how Feige and the rest of the Marvel gang juggle this workload.
You mean like next year? wink

Ugh. 2020 is going to be a VERY long year grin
I agree from the viewpoint of anticipating 2021, but 2020 won't be that bad in its own right. We're used to only having two movies per year, even though the last time that happened was 2016

Also, there's been an average of 6h 55m of MCU content in each of 2017, 2018 and 2019. Assuming Black Widow is 2h 15m long, The Eternals is 2h 15m long, and the six episodes of Falcon & Winter Soldier are 45m each (4h 30m total), then we will have approx. 9 hours of MCU content in 2020, which is the most we've had in a year. (I personally believe Falcon & Winter Soldier will be closer to an hour each, which would push the total content over 10 hours for 2020).

2020 looks bare at a glance, but there's really quite a bit of content. Still 2021 will be absolutely absurd with content.

This is ridiculous. Things go in phases. Right now, we are in a phase where the entertainment market is so saturated with high quality content being streamed directly into people's homes and yes, getting people out to brick & mortar theaters is a chore. Scorcese has already embraced this by using Netflix as primary distribution of his latest work. I don't foresee the tides turning to where the public becomes more reliant on these "outside the home" experiences except for the big ticket items like the MCU, Star Wars blockbusters etcetera. Filmmakers claiming that these types of films are despicable or insulting the craft of these films seems very much like "get off my lawn!" types of reactions.

Just because their filmmaking style is dissimilar with the MCU gives them no reason to attack the works and insult the credibility of those involved in the process.

The next group of Avengers is gonna be built in the same way the team was from A1-A4. Some will be the featured characters of titular films the headline, some will be bit players introduced in those films and some will have their premiere in the next Avengers proper movie.

Besides Independence day, Far from home will have two weeks free of competition to itself. It should be just fine as most blockbuster movies make 70 to 80 percent of their money in the first two weeks anyways.

And even if it is plagued by terrible reviews and WOM, it should still gross higher than 800mil.

Your prediction is highly unrealistic i must say.

I understand you're trying to be conservative or highly skeptical, but you seem to be forgetting how big Spider-Man has been in the media recently. Tom Holland is an acclaimed Spider-Man actor and this movie will be riding on the waves of Endgame's success. In fact it's basically serving as an epilogue to Endgame. Not to mention Spidey just coming off one of the most acclaimed superhero games of recent memory and THE most acclaimed superhero animated theatrical feature of all time. To cap it all off, Spider-Man Far From Home is currently the most anticipated movie of the summer according to Fandango. If Far From Home breaks 85% plus on RT, it's definitely going to be a beast at the B.O.

pu7pl3:

B.O. 500-650. R.T. 65-75%
Can you possibly justify this prediction? This is the probably the most pessimistic prediction i've seen concerning this movie.

philfearon:

May 24. Theaters
Aladdin (2019) 4,400+
Booksmart 2,500
Brightburn 2,605

May 31 Theaters
Godzilla 2 Nationwide
Ma Nationwide
Rocketman Nationwide

grin cheesy grin cheesy
None of the above will affect it.
Also, Far From Home has two full weeks before it comes accross any competition. It will make most of its money within that period. Provided it has good WOM that is...

Now for my predictions:

Rotten Tomatoes: 87%-90%
Aesthetically speaking, FFH looks like a big step up from Homecoming. It also appears to be more action packed and at a much larger scale than its predecessor which is typical for an MCU sequel. The story looks like it will contain lots of twists and unexpected plot beats and Mysterio looks very promising. However, i'm guessing (based on what i can speculate will happen in the movie), critics will look at FFH the way they looked at Guardians vol 2 and see it as inferior to Homecoming. This is just guesswork btw. I personally hope and believe it has the potential to beat Homecoming critically.

Box Office
$1.025bn

I've done this calculation already
1/ Spider-Man (2002) - $821,7 mil. > 403,7 US + 418 OS.

2/ Spider-Man 2 (2004) - $783,8 mil. > 373,6 US + 410,2 OS.

3/ Spider-Man 3 (2007) - $890,9 mil. > 336,5 US + 554,3 OS.

4/ TASM1 (2012) - $757,9 mil. > 262
US + 495,9 OS (48,8 China).

5/ TASM2 (2014) - $709 mil. > 202,9 US + 506,1 OS (94,4 China).

6/ Spider-Man HC(2017) - $880,2 mil. > 334,2 US (117 o.w.) + 546 OS (116,3 China).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An average of $807,3 mil WW. OS markets especially average $488,4 mil. $550 mil from OS is a safe bet considering China.
Realistically it should probably be closer to $600-650 mil.

$900-1100 mil is the most probable range.
My prediction.
US ow $125 mil , US total $400 mil.
OS total $625 mil (China $200 mil). WW total $1025 mil.

Boxofficepro.com early tracking said:
$90-120 mil US opening weekend for a $405 mil US total.

In Marvel Television defense most of their shows were canceled because of political reasons.
The Defenders the show was a disappointment, and they couldn't bother to give it a second season. That alone brings down the Netflix Marvel as they aimed it as the equivalent of the Avengers. It turned to be the tv equivalent of DCEU's Justice League.

Agent Carter, Inhumans and The Gifted all had low ratings and thats pretty much the main reason why they got canceled in the first place. If the studio and network were completely happy with the ratings, they would have lasted more. While Aos, survived this long because Disney wants to keep it despite Abc's desire to cancel it, but still the show got budget cuts/salary cuts just to continue and has been moved to Friday/summer. Not exactly ideal. Most Wanted and New Warriors also weren't picked up probably the network wasn't confident that they would bring enough viewers/ratings.

Legion may not have been "canceled" but still compare to other cable shows, it doesnt even enter the daily top ten (just like Cloak & Dagger). None of these shows really got the attention of the public compare to the MCU Movies.

Doesn't it seem really strange that Marvel has gone from complete visibility for five years or more of films down to the point we're not 100% sure what's coming out next year? Has Feige or anyone else discussed that shift? Is it partly related to Endgame and their desire to allow that to play out before talking about what's next?

Considering some things have changed in the past and some films are probably dependent on how other films do, I can understand they might want some flexibility, but it's kind of crazy how dramatic the shift has been. And I to think they lose some marketing edge by not giving fans the chance to plan and look forward to specific films on specific dates.

I'm so scared. I hope there's at least one mutant movie
MJBOLT, XxSabrinaxX, hulk616, shittakeem, waywardpikin, cao, Afobear, Kinggoblin
They have a lot going on. Black Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange 2, Guardians 3, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel, and Spider-Man 3 are possibly all going to be part of Phase 4. Not to mention the rumoured movies like Nova, Captain Britain, Dark Avengers, etc... And not to mention a new Avengers movie too (possibly New Avengers or Young Avengers).

Phase 3 had 10 movies. If Phase 4 is as big as 3, that is more than enough for the entire Phase. If we're talking a 4 year plan with Marvel possibly jumping to 4 movies a year, we're talking about 10 to 16 movies. But I don't see them announcing that amount of movies at all.

Also, if they do plan to release the slate this summer, with Dark Phoenix just coming out and New Mutants yet to make a debut, it problably means they have no mutant movie in that slate. They aren't going to announce a reboot of a still ongoing franchise.

I'm a bit bummed out over the fact that Michael Keaton won't return to reprise his role as the Vulture in FFH though. Keaton was IMO the most grounded and most realistic of all MCU baddies and deserves more recognition & accolades

That’s all it takes. That’s all they need. People who have recently been infected still retain some of their humanity. You see it takes a while for the virus to take complete hold. It takes hold of your body very quickly.

But the mind is a tricky thing. It takes the virus a bit longer to get control of that. So someone infected could be trying to tear your throat out while sobbing and pleading with you not to kill them.

You cannot hesitate. Not for a second.

I did. And here I am in this empty warehouse with a bite wound in my neck.
