In 2016, winning Copa America was not enough to get Sanchez nominated because his individual performance was dwarfed by other players compare to Messi whose individual stats can only be matched by Lewandoski in 2021.

In 2016, Sanchez was not EPL top Scorer nor Best Player but in 2021, Messi topped goal chart in Spain.

In 2016, Sanchez was Copa America Best Player while in 2021, Messi was not just the Best Player in Copa America but also topped goal chart.
