While growing up, there was this popular notion that the daughters in a home are usually the ones who take care of their parents the most when they get older. This was evident around us, as in many homes, it was the daughters who visited their parents the most. The daughters kept their parents active, and even their children were close to their maternal grandparents.

But has anyone noticed that this is shifting? Girls in homes these days don't really give as much concern to their parents. They are more concerned about themselves, their careers and their families. I have heard many stories lately of some daughters not showing support to their parents. In fact, right now, I think it is even amongst both sons and daughters.

I'm not against it, but I think it is high time we realised that this mentality is fading. Anyone can take care of their ageing parents, whether male or female. And as an adult, it is your duty to, while giving your children the best, make an investment for your future so that if your children abandon you, you can still stand strong.
