safarigirl: I understand where you're coming from, there is a lot for Nollywood to learn as regards quality and I have never held back on that.
I think Nollywood is currently suffering from a lack of originality with the storytelling, which is why I personally enjoyed this particular movie. A lot of Nigerian movies these days, have mainly suffered from a need to replicate foreign media, without infusing Nigerian realities into it. There is also the general mediocrity that permeates every facet of the Nigerian lifestyle, that has affected Nollywood. The average Nigerian does not strive for excellence, and Nollywood has basically fallen into the same pot.
Let's not digress from the topic sha. I understand your angle, and I have reduced the rating. I do agree some of the ratings have been too high, and should be reviewed. Even I, couldn't believe some of the ratings I gave productions like Far From Home. Well said. We hope that someday Nollywood will make Nigeria proud qualitatively like other countries are picking up and encouraging great movies. Thanks for the constructive arguments. Yeah Far From Home was worth the watch from the beginning but I didn't know when I began forwarding through. |

safarigirl: I rate my films according to what I like, not according to what the Koreans are doing.
I don't watch Korean movies. The reality of Korea is that it is a highly misogynistic and racist country, and I cannot suspend belief enough to patronise their movie industry.
I'm a Nollywood buff, and I write for fellow Nollywood buffs, not for people who enjoy Korean drama, since our tastes and likes will differ. But thank you for your feedback.
Most of my ratings are made on first watch, and tend to change after I watch them again, but I don't come back to change it. I do agree that they are unnecessarily high though and have modified this one. I mentioned Korea because of movie quality, from powerful stories to impactful execution, exactly why some are winning Oscars. Another good industry is Bollywood whose notable movies are of top class. Nollywood is growing and deserves the encouragement, that is why you and I see them. But lets keep their rating not too high so they'll understand that there's room for improvement. Please don't see my comment the wrong way, I am usually eager to read your reviews here. Cheers. |

@Safarigirl, your film ratings are too high. Much of your reviewed films that I eventually saw weren't up to par i.e Kill Boro, Far From Home, Blood Sisters. I think you should see what the Koreans are doing. They are nowhere compared to what Nollywood is showcasing. |

efficiencie: Well, going by your logic, why should we believe a corrupt judicial system when time and time again they have shown that justice is like any other commodity that can be bought and sold. Why did the parents of the accused boys whisk them abroad immediately after the incident if there wasn't something fishy? Those accused boys should have been cross-examined and the environment where the attack is alleged to have happened should have been declared a potential crime scene and cordoned off for forensic investigation.
Yes, the boy may have had health issues before he was attacked but that does not rule out the possibility that the attack could have worsened the victim's condition and ultimately led to his untimely death.
The way and manner the matter was hurriedly buried speaks volumes of who we are as a people. When we are the victims we can go to the ends of the earth for justice but when we are the perpetrator we do everything to sweep it under the rug and bury it forever. This is why we have bad leaders continuously. GOD has given us up to ourselves. Our leaders are our punishment because as a people, many of us are ridiculously evil.
I would rather homeschool my boy than have him attend school with monsters seeking whom to destroy. It's obvious all your news and facts are from social media |

MadamVanessa:

It's clear that the current state of Nollywood is underwhelming. The storylines have become predictable and lack depth, making it easy to guess the ending before the movie even starts.
I want to emphasize that my criticism is not directed at any particular tribe, but rather at the industry as a whole. However, I do think that the influx of southwest influence in Nollywood lately has contributed to its decline in global reputation. The industry had gained international recognition and respect when it was all Igbos affairs, but it seems to have lost its way in recent years. Sister you are wrong, when it was an igbo affair it was all about quantity not quality. If you cannot shout, you cannot be a good nollywood actor/actress. The cinematography was totally crap. The Yorubas like Kunle Afolayan who I personally don't like brought a new edge in nollywood. Kunle went to Film school abroad and he and a few others raised the bar and gave nollywood some sweet movies that is at least quality. Though we must say, there is still alot of work to be done in nollywood. Now with the way, nollywood is, it's not about tribe. There are Igbos, Yorubas, Northerners, and even Ibibios like Emem Isong giving the industry its best. Lets not make it a tribal thing please. |

I had issues with someone months ago, i called a friend that was a Sergent in thesame barrack to help me out, my wife heard d issue later and was against it. It was a serious matter later on.
We even had issue with someone from our area , and she told me to call the Police and that it not in her place to interfere.
My boy was attacked by someone, he called her to report and my wife warned him to not try it again.
She wasn't like that until we got married. Somehow this thing is irritating me cos it depressing. I discussed it wit a friend from her rank that told me it was unusual that she was supposed to help me out. Bros, that woman does not love you. A real wife will be on fire to fight for you. While African leaders are making revolutionary changes to change the destiny of their nations, Nigeria's own is totally different. Our supposed President Tinubu is changing our national anthem to what was written by a British woman from a more patriotic one we had. Nigeria is cursed, since we began we have never had an exemplary leader. RIP Zik and Awo, the presidents we never had. |
