You are talking about 18 LGA with 13 languages. There is a town in Ondo State where they speak about 7 languages. There is another one where they speak about 5. Then when you move from town to town in the eastern part of the state it is a different language in each town, even those within walking distance of each other, and each town can't understand the next town. Those people have fused the hell out of Yoruba, Ijaw, Bini, and Igala languages.

There are parts of Ondo State where every town has its own language. I believe it is because of the mountainous topography. It meant many of the communities lived in relative isolation from one another in ancient times, and isolation is one of the primary drivers of differentiation in language as each community will experience language drift in its own way. Therefore, even if they spoke the same language initially, their languages will differ over time.

This also explains the situation in Plateau state.

That is my theory at least.

My dad too used to talk about “the prophecy” anytime the Israel-Palestinian hostilities comes up on foreign news while I was growing up .
