From the little I know, their history dates back post Biafra war after Igbos lost a lot of their businesses to the war. A group of influential Igbo men came together and formed the club with the aim of pulling financial resources to assist each other get back, they have not looked back since then.

They used to be a closed group with stringent membership requirements but I think they have relaxed a lot of those and are more open to membership. Most of the theories were pushed because they were closed in the past and those tales mostly exaggerated or false.

As far as I know, it is a legit Igbo socio-cultural group with influential personalities from all works of life. I have uncles/aunts who are active members including here in the States and their gatherings are usually LOUD! I will tell you, they have influential Igbo sons on their roster and do a lot back home.

You are right, they still have fragments here in Calabar who happen to meet at the golf club where I frequent. These men discuss serious issues and contribute a lot for each other's special occasions be it dedications, weddings or burials, all while parading some of the hottest lays Calabar has to offer

Nowadays it's the beat and composition that resonate especially with us in our parts of Africa so we can have a good time. A lot of those guys have watery lyrics. Wack pen games. That's one of the reasons I follow my guy shallipopi, his lyrics might look thrash especially to people who don't understand pidgin or street lingua but the production of his songs with nice amapiano beats and his melodies especially the hook still gets him massive fans and airplay.
