redocean: Hello kissoflife,
Please how do I link my PR card to my CIC account and how soon after landing can this be done?
Thanks in advance... 1) Login to CIC account. 2) Go to section "Link an existing application to this account". Click on "Link application to this account" button. 3) Select category as PR Card 4) Select "Unique Client Identifier (UCI) and Family Name" 5) Fill required details (please make sure of capital, small, comma etc.) 6) Provide landing date in "Date you became a permanent resident" 7) Click on 'search my application' after application searched, make sure you submit application else it not link Once you have successfully linked your application it will show you as "Submitted" status and once it is ready for dispatch it will go into "Approved" status. The steps above were copied from a Blackbuddy's post and it worked for me but after like a month of landing. |

Ambidextrause: Same scenario here. So I called their office yesterday to find out what's up. The lady who spoke with me said they are currently treating profiles of those who sent in their photos in the first week of May - that they are dealing on a weekly "batch" basis. That sort of made sense because I sent my photos based on their request in the 3rd week of May. July looks highly probable, I guess. Mine is the last week of May. Too slow. Please could you share the number you called? |

A555: It does take a while. I think especially when they have to ask you to provide more info or update photos, etc.
Arrived mid January. 6 weeks later with no info on our PR cards, so linked the PR card application to mycic account. 2 days later got an email asking for new passport photos (not saying we got the update because the application was linked, it was probably coincidental). Sent in the passport photos next day and my spouse got the PR card approved and delivered 4 weeks later (altogether about 10 weeks after arrival). I don't understand why, but mine took a further 4 weeks before it got updated to approved on mycic account and delivered in the post.
So, although timelines are sometimes quoted as 4-6 weeks, mine took 14 weeks to get delivered. At the same time, some people have received theirs within the quoted 4-6 weeks. Thank you so much, now I feel relaxed. I also got the message to send new photos shortly after i linked mycic account |

How long does it take to get the PR card.
3 weeks ago, a little over a month of landing I was asked to send new passport photos which I did send and got to them 4 days after and til now no PR card, No update, nothing.
Is this normal? |

Ejadike: Good morning from Nigeria. Please, I've asked this question but no one seems to help with any answer. How much would it cost me to process everything asides from the money I'll need to have as settlement funds in Canada? Please I need your reply on this. Thanks and God bless. Well it depends ob several factors like 1. Times it takes u to pass IELTS 2. How many credentials u intend to evaluate 3. Size of family and maybe other little things For me, a single person with IELTS done once and no accompanying family, It was in the range of 1.3M to 1.5M including flight ticket and minus POF. It also depends on your plans as well. Note that the cost of taking the IELTS exams and credentials evaluation changes from time to time as well. So do some research to find out about latest pricing and other things. Dont know if I answwred your questions? |

TheCongo2: Equifax Canada charges $20/month. You can open a account with equifax so that you can log into their system to access your credit information anytime you want. You can also get a notification each time new information has been entered on your record God bless you Sir! this is straight on to-do-list |
Travel › Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by kissoflife: 2:56pm On Apr 10, 2018 |
TheCongo2: It is a good habit to check your credit record through agencies like equifax for example so that you can see if someone had tried to apply for a loan under your name.
Please bear in mind that all a person may need is your name, Date of birth, and home address to apply for a credit under your name.
Now, you can pay a credit agency to have a security place on your record that will prompt any lender to call your cellphone in case a loan application under your name is about to be processed. Or the person who is about to apply for a loan under your name may be asked three security questions that you will be the only one to know the answers to.
Credits is only a slice of what criminal can do to your identity. There are others activities they may do with your identity, just be safe Thank you so much for this info, i will note this down on to-do list. Any idea of the fees associated with the bolded and what are some companies into this that i can check online? Thanks Sir in Advance |

maziude: Bros, calm down Sir. No carry fear. Since you gave it to the bank and telecom company, you have no issue.
Like @TheCongo said, if you know the number of organizations with access to your SIN, you no go just worry. But if you want an hint, just wait, when police show for your door; that na the hint (Na joke I dey, the cold don enter my brain). Lol, one has to prepare well before coming here. I have not been even able to come online until now. So many things to do, Canada big o. To be honest, i didnt sleep over this SIN thing! |

As I have said earlier, please don't lose any sleep over that Ok, thank you Sir. Canada is much bigger than I imagined and easy to make mistakes here. is there any way I can get a hint if it is being used inappropriately especially for identity theft? |

TheCongo2: We have all made that mistake
Who did you give your SIN number. I wouldn't worry about that if it wasn't a fraudster. Just learn from the mistake and move on. Don't loose any sleep over that I gave it to open a bank account and to get a phone line just yesterday as i needed to include a phone on my resume asap. today is my 3rd day in Canada and i was overwhelmed with a lot to do. Now I am very worried, what can I do, expecially the phone line part |

TheCongo2: Guys please, don't you ever give your SIN number to anyone, I repeat ANYONE. Banks will ask you for your SIN number but what most of them won't tell you is that it is optional. You dont have to give your SIN to your bank. You can get a bank account, credit card, a loan without disclosing your SIN number to the bank. You only give your SIN number to government agencies and your employer for tax purposes.
As for getting a phone line, you will need to provide some ID to the phone company. It could be the reason why you were asked for passport details. I wouldn't worry about that so long as I can verify it is a legitimate call. But as for the SIN number I don't even give it to my bank. You just don't give it to anyone What do I do if I already made this mistake? |

Something annoying is happening with my Airtel line. I started noticing this last weekend.
I subscribed 1500 3.5Gb plan only to get a message that the data is exhausted yesternight meanwhile I barely use it
Fast forward to yesterday, I decided to subscribe to 1000 1.5 GB today and as I am typing now, I got same message that this is exhausted again. I didn't and couldn't even stream videos cos of their poor service and yet they decided to zap my data within two days!!!!
The funny thing is I don't use the data much and I have spent 2500 total and now data exhausted.
I think either something wrong with my line or Airtel is into robbery of susbscribers. This is totally unfair and I really feel like breaking my SIM |

AZeD1: Well in mine opinion, I don't think it's "hard" getting a help desk job. The word hard is relative to individuals, but in my case, I applied for only one help desk job and I got an interview (phone and in person). My background is in software engineering so my case might be different. I got my job via Reddit after 3months, after some rejections and no reply from companies.
The CEO of the company I currently work, reached out to me and the rest is history. As for certifications, I'll suggest cloud computing (AWS, Azure, and GCP).
My advice would be to give yourself a reasonable timeframe. I didn't and got hit by reality. Thanks for the advice, especially that in bold. I will also look at cloud computing |

gcmsnote: Hey, if you are looking at focusing on IT and looking at Help desk specifically, I would suggest you take the Comptia A+ certification. The IT industry here is really big on certifications and that certification will get your foot in the door (It will get you calls from HR). Also, doing the certification also gives you confidence. Yes, thanks so much, I'd look into ComptiaA+ and I'm already scheduled to write a CCNA certification exam in cybersecurity before end of the year although I have no work experience in that area. So i intend to build my profile with help desk, get the certification and crossover to cybersoc analyst job. I am not just sure if it'd work in Canada and I am kind of weighing that with my oil and gas background in case i get dissapointed. I just wanted more advice from people that are already there. |

salford1: Do you have an ond/hnd or applied science background? If you do, then you need to contact ASET in Alberta since you are looking at landing in Edmonton. Through ASEt, your qualifications would be exanined, and you would be assigned some exams. In addition, you may be required to submit a research report on a project you worked on. Tge quality of the project must be at par with what is obtainable in Canada. After clearing that hurdle, you would be assigned a CET designation. You might want to look into that.
With regards to IT, fusion might be able to offer some recommendations.
Your experience with a multinational could land you a non technologist or non engineering position. Maybe a specialist or something of that nature. Just that the requirements for most specialist job would still be an engineering diploma or degree, but you never can tell. Thank you salford1. yes I have ND/HND in Engineering. Thank you so much, this is very helpful. I will look into ASET asap. As regards that statement in bold, could you please elaborate more on the non technologist roles you have in mind and in what industries. Thank you very much! |

Hello house, I'm beginning to get scared after reading about job prospects in Canada and knowing I will be landing in a month's time. Not that I am doing well in Nigeria presently but confused on the paths I could follow to get my big break in Canada.
I need some advice, I am an Engineering technologist with background in IT hardware and Oil and gas. Although I have more experience in oil and gas. Knowing my profession is regulated, I intend to switch back to IT and continue my career there in Canada. Is it possible to get IT Help desk roles easily to gain some experience or any support roles? Also is it possible to get a job as any Engineering technologist without the provincial license? Can one's previous experience with a known multinational also influence the probability of getting a good job?
Please help cos I'm trying to determine the reality out there so I can prepare myself for the worst before landing. planning to land in Edmonton
Thank you.
