But, ptssshew, that didn't cut any ice with him. He simply replied "Na my farm I dey retire to ooo!" Can you imagine that? A first class university degree holder from the University of Ibadan retiring to his farm after working for government for almost 35years! Sweet Jeezuuuz!!!

I immediately disagreed with him and told him: "My guy, leave witch out of dis mata. A man is the architect of his own good fortune or misfortune."

As if he suddenly felt ashamed, he couldn't continue with the conversation any more. He left me abruptly without saying goodbye. I could tell that he was no longer comfortable discussing the issue anymore.

addresses of all nairaland members are extracted. I got these email addresses from a single web page and profile

of bella3. Not that bella3 profile has the magic potion to extract all emails. Any web page on this web is just enough.

Fortunately, my email address is second on that list and I have never posted my email on any web page of this

website. Amazing huh?

Now, here is the deal, nairaland has close to a million registered accounts and believe me, I can get the whole of

the one million emails assoiciated with the registered accounts extracted in less than 12 hours with a very fast

internet connection. On the top left, you would see statistics .i.e the total email addreses, time elapse and the rest.

On the left is the email addresses of nairaland members who never posted their emails on web page of this website.

Similary, I got 50 password of users in this website in little time but unfortunately could not get the other related log in

details i.e email or username along with the password.

I don't really know if it's an hack but I don't really take it to be one. I hack and do unbelievable stuffs with keyloggers

The only business of these corrupt leaders in power is to amass all the wealth that they can amass to themselves, formulate and implement obnoxious policies - like the removal of the fuel subsidy saga only to give civil servants a paltry sum of N18,000 as minimum wage after the cost of everything in Nigeria has hit the roof. Wicked souls!

Now, to start with, did you know that at least 60% of Nigerians are scarcely managing to get by, to survive in their own country? And another 30% are living below the poverty line? Just in case you are wondering what that is, the poverty line is living below a dollar a day.

A dollar a day means living below N160 a day, the current exchange rate of a dollar to the Naira. Therefore, it simply means that the majority of Nigerians are living in abject poverty. Now, when l speak of Nigerians living below N160 a day, l am not referring to a single individual. In many cases, a family of at least a husband, wife and 5 children live on less than N200 a day.

You do not have to be a genius to work it all out. Majority of Nigerian workers are civil servants, many of whom are between the grade levels 1 and 4. With the new minimum wage pegged at N18,000, it means that a family of 7 will make do with N600 a day for feeding, transport, rent, healthcare and every other expenses that they will have to incur on a daily basis.

Even if the bread winner of the family is a level 4 government worker, with his salary less than N25,000, his family of 7 persons would have about N800 to share among themselves for their day to day living expenses. But, if they spend everything on living expenses alone, how can they ever hope to build their own house and move to their own apartment, or buy a car to ease their movement every once in a while?

What about the children's education? We all know that education is the most expensive single investment that every parent can bequeath to his or her offspring nowadays. At first glance, did the N800 not look like a huge sum to you? But, after looking at it again, does it look so huge after all? However, at least 30% of Nigerians ARE NOT living below N800 a day, but they are living below N160 a day. What does that suggest to you?

You can see that with so much wealth that is available to this country, the majority of Nigerians are actually suffering in their father land. And for the avoidance of doubt, Nigeria is ranked among the first 6 oil producing countries in the world, yet it is ranked among the 20 poorest nations across the globe. Is that not a huge paradox? Indeed, it is!

But, do you find it extremely difficult to believe that in the midst of all these abject poverty that is prevalent everywhere, there are a few greedy politicians, less than 1% of the total population, who are indeed living in unapologetic affluence and opulence?

If it were the money that they personally acquired on their own outside government before assuming political office, I would have no quarrel with that. But, it is the ill-gotten wealth that they acquire after assuming public office. That is why they will never declare their assets publicly after living office.

Yes, these few individuals travel abroad almost on a daily basis like someone going to his backyard. They possess chains of buildings and fleet of cars purchased with stolen money from the national treasury. Most of the cars are hardly ever driven but parked and covered with tarpaulins in their garages for many months and even years unend. They send their children to study abroad, while neglecting to do anything about the state of our educational system.

While many Nigerians starve to bed daily, eating three course meals at a single sitting is a common thing to these corrupt leaders. They take appetizers just before their meals and dessert after they have had their meals. But, does the common man even know the meaning of "appetizer" or "dessert", much less having three square meals on a daily basis. Well, what do you know, their dogs are even well-fed than some of their own fellow country men and women!

There is no doubt about it whatsoever that many of our politicians are terribly corrupt. They are so corrupt that if there was a much worse word than corrupt to use to describe them, it would fittingly describe them perfectly.
Can you imagine an ordinary local government chairman going home with a security vote of N2.5m monthly, besides their fueling imprest, office imprest (meant to run the office which is never used for the purpose but simply put into their pockets), their normal allowances and salaries? At the end of it all, a mere local government chairman can go home with at least N5m every single month of the year.

What about the governors, commissioners, house of assembly members, ministers, senators and legislators? Let's not even go there. Put together, can all the politicians who are holding one government office position or the other be more than a hundred thousand persons? Certainly not. Yet, the amount that these few people take home monthly, a hundred million Nigerians do not even take them home daily (not including a small number of hardworking Nigerians who are working in various choice companies and government establishments).

Out of greed and a selfish desire to amass so much wealth for their great great great great great great great great great grand children yet unborn, the politicians would never formulate and implement policies that would favour the majority of Nigerians. Their sole objective of being in power is self-centred. Any policy that would favour the common man never sees the light of day.

Even the minimum wage of a lousy N18,000 for government workers took the president and his governors two good years to implement - after fuel subsidy had been removed and everything else had gone up. And even at that it was not implemented across board. Will you believe it if l told you that the salary of the highest paid civil servant, a level 17 officer, is not up to N500,000? Though unbelievable, it is true!

That is the simple reason why you can never be rich in Nigeria! The government of the day does not have a human face. They do not operate an all-inclusive policy. Their policies are tailored towards meeting their own personal selfish interests alone and does not include that of the majority of Nigerians.

In the midst of all these corrupt leaders who do not have the welfare of the common man at heart, it really takes the grace of God to be able to survive, let alone become rich in Nigeria.

2. Too Many Graduates

The second reason why you can never be rich in Nigeria is that there are too many graduates chasing after very few lucrative employment opportunities in the country.

What is your line of profession, if l may ask? Are you...

a medical doctor working in a government hospital or any other government establishment?

a professional nurse working in a government hospital or any other government establishment?

any other health worker working in a government hospital or any other government establishment?

working in an oil company or any other multinational company?

My guess is that you are not. I am also guessing that you are not a dubious politician who has several sources of stealing government money and impoverishing the majority of Nigerians as a whole.

Then, are you a very successful business man like Aliko Dangote?

If not, and you do not belong among any of the other categories of workers mentioned above, it simply means, like myself, you are just managing to get by. Or, much worse, you rely on other people to get by. Quite frankly, it simply means that you are not among the rich folks in Nigeria.

As a matter of fact, there are very few high paying jobs around, while there are too many graduates chasing after those few lucrative jobs. So, if you are a graduate applicant looking for a job, what are the chances that you will be employed in a very juicy and lucrative job? It is next to zero.

So, if you desire to be rich in Nigeria, you cannot look to the government for help. They do not even know that you exist. Neither can you hope to be gainfully employed in a very lucrative job with a take home pay of at least N300,000 to N500,000 monthly. The competition is just too great and stiff.

So, there must be another way.

3. Unfavourable Business Environment

The Nigerian government must share a larger part of the blame for the unfavourable business environment in the country, such as epileptic power supply and lack of infrastructural facilities, or small business to thrive. They budget and spend huge sums of money annually on power and other infrastructural facilities, yet the power situation remains as epileptic as ever and nothing to show for it in terms of infrastructural development across the country.

But, thank God for China! If not for China, many small scale businesses would have long gone under long before now. With Chinese products flooding everywhere in the country, from electronics to computers to household equipments and even generators, China is the saviour of the common man.

With this highly unfavourable business environment, how can anyone interested in setting up a small scale business hope to do so successfully and rely on the business to make a living out of it or even become rich later on in life? It is expecting the almost impossible, indeed.

For instance, can you think of any business that you can start with less than N10,000 or even less than N50,000 in Nigeria and hope to make a steady income from it on a monthly basis?

To tell you the truth, such businesses are not many. Even if we assume that you will not pay store rent and that the money will be used solely for the products or goods that you are going to sell, the money is still too small to make any appreciable impact on either the business or the owner's living standard over a period of time.

I will give you just two examples in this regard - recharge card business and barbing saloon. Though the recharge card business is one that you can start with a small capital, you must invest at least N500,000 to N1m in order to be able to make a reasonable income from the business.

A barbing saloon too is not a business that requires a lot of capital to begin. But, even at that, you will need at least N50,000 for you to be able to start the business well. Let's say you buy a small generator ("I better pass my neighbour" for about N12,000, chairs and a table for N15,000 and 2 clippers for N8,000. Finally, the store rent for one year takes N24,000 at the rate of N2,000 per month.

Total amount of investment is already shooting above the N50,000 capital that you have for the business. But, if the store rent is at the rate of N1,500 and you buy one clipper instead of two, you will just manage to start the business somehow, without having any change left to take care of any immediate operational expenses for your new business.

However, the truth about such small businesses is that you can hardly ever be rich from doing them. At the end of the day, you just manage to get by, to live from hand to mouth. So, even the business environment does not favour the common man in Nigeria.

So, there must be another option to be rich in Nigeria. And indeed there is.

Now that we have concluded that you can never be rich in Nigeria either through government policies or chasing after the non-existent high paying jobs in the country, just how can somebody become rich in Nigeria?

Additionally, since there are very few business opportunities for the common man with very little start-up capital to engage in, what other option is available for the average Nigerian just managing to get by to take advantage of?
