The one who is everlastingly blind here is your person. Look around you in the South East and you will find that it looks no different from the North East, North West, or even the South West. It has been 3 years since his second arrest in 2021 and if you read through the 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Act, you are bound to find that the case is not going according to prescribed in your very constitution. For reasons best known to them and not your Constitution, the judiciary is playing a political game with this case which should not be the case at all. undecided

All this epistle no dey work for Nigeria. He was arrested for calling for the destruction of Nigeria. And it is on record that he incited people to destroy public property in Lagos during the Endsars protest. Kanu's detention or release has no effect on my life. I could care less. I am just telling you why he would be this willing to take whatever offer the government gives him to get out of jail. Simple.
Buhari is no longer the president. Tinubu is more reasonable and would garner political goodwill in the east for releasing Kanu. Kanu would be offered a lot of money as well to keep the east calm. The governors would have identified with Kanu and would have political goodwill for making his release possible. It's a win win for everyone.

■ No Kanu was arrested for his own crime...but while in detention, Ekpa has taken over and is making money off Kanus detention. So Kanu will rather take any condition to regain his freedom and regain his leadership of the IPOB and get money himself and access to his wife's body again. Especially as Buhari is no longer in power. But if he comes out and start making trouble, I am sure he will not get a third chance again to go to prison

3. He jumped bail? What evidence do you have or has been given to this effect to date?
ABUJA, May 20 (Reuters) - A Nigerian judge denied separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu bail for the second time in two months on Monday and also dismissed his application to be moved to prison from custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), a security agency.
Kanu, a British citizen who leads the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement, was first arrested in 2015 but disappeared from Nigeria while on bail in 2017.
He was subsequently arrested in Kenya in 2021 and charged in Nigeria with seven counts of terrorism. Kanu has pleaded not guilty.
Kanu denied breaching his 2017 bail terms, saying he escaped for his life after soldiers invaded his ancestral home in the southern Nigerian state of Abia.

Judge Binta Murtala Nyako, who denied Kanu bail in March, said she found out as a fact that Kanu jumped bail granted him in 2017. "You have an option of appeal. Please exercise your right of appeal," the judge said. https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/nigerian-judge-denies-separatist-leader-kanu-bail-second-time-2024-05-20

I don't have time for this, whatever you think, he is still in DSS cell, and there's nothing that will change that, I mean he is lucky, if in other country, they would have handed him to the army he so despised and ordered to be killed by his minors, all this story of fundamental human rights will be stories for the gods.
Being in court is one thing; being in detention is something else entirely. If you read the law, a person on trial does not need to be in detention during all of that. He can equally come from home to his case when he needs to be especially since he has, to date, not been formally charged with any actual crimes requiring his detention. undecided

Again, you cannot call for illegal acts to be used in the process of obtaining justice. That is counterintuitive and only serves to belittle your very constitution. Even criminals have rights... yes, it is stated in your constitution that every Nigerian has rights that ought to be respected. This man has yet to be convicted of any actual crimes; his rights ought to be respected the same as yours. undecided

■ Very funny, next time try and read, children everywhere.
UNITED STATES
In 1794 Philip Vigol and John Mitchell were convicted of treason for their part in the Whiskey Rebellion and sentenced to death. Both were pardoned by President George Washington. Six years later, John Fries, the leader of the eponymous rebellion, was convicted of the same offense; he also received a pardon, from John Adams. Aaron Burr was rather famously acquitted in 1807. In April of 1862, William Bruce Mumford was found guilty of treason after removing an American flag planted by Union Marines atop a mint in New Orleans. Mumford was hanged. During this period, the states also occasionally secured convictions for treason.
You can help yourself to some education. https://theweek.com/articles/869173/brief-history-treason-united-states
The problem with a lot of you is you argue from a point of established blindness/ignorance of the kind that seems incurable. In the cases you mentioned, it is clearly indicated that those men were found guilty of crimes against the people. Kanu has, even after several years, not been charged with any crimes requiring his current detention. He has yet to be convicted on even the terrorism charges that were formerly dismissed, since December 2023, so what are you arguing for Pete's sake? undecided

You blind ignoramuses are the reason that country continues to fail even your own generation. You call for illegal acts against those whom you conveniently set yourselves again all while whining about how your elected leaders(including the ones who rigged themselves into office) continue to flout your very constitution without abandon. undecided

■ Young man, no government on earth will allow his shenanigans, even the UK or US, not to talk of Russian, he will be dead a long time. The next time you want to quote Constitution, just remember interpretation matters a lot.
You lie! Those countries you mentioned would have been under fire from their people if they attempted to illegally detain a citizen for crimes they are clearly unable to charge them with. Open your Constitution and realize that if you as an individual disregard your constitution, you inadvertently demise your democracy. I live abroad and we don't tolerate that kind of nonsense from our government no matter the reason. If there is no charge within 48 hours, the person has to be released until enough evidence if gathered to the contrary. undecided

Nigeria has not been able to charge him with terrorism to date making his detention and illegal one. undecided

Terms? Do you ever pay attention to your constitution at all? The Constitution prohibits detention of this kind. This man has not been charged with any crime to date so why do you accept your Nigerian government flaunting your very constitution in even this case? undecided

It seems Nigerians don't even realize that they are part of the problem that is Nigeria today. Calling for unconstitutional action against a citizen while demanding your law be respected by the many politicians you set over yourselves... isn't this what is clearly a contradiction? undecided

Not merely hatred for the man but also hatred for Nigeria as this man's detention is clearly unconstitutional and the government knows this but refuses to abide because the people of Nigeria are themselves majorly lawless zombies. undecided

■ Killing him will only make him martyr, how do you think he will feel after been released, if he eventually get the chance and leave Nigeria, he will definitely keep to himself.
Keep to himself how? If he not a human being that should be free to express himself? Look, if you check your constitution well, you all have the right, including the man, to express yourselves. That you have allowed the criminals in office to convince you otherwise is a reflection of how gullible and seriously damaged you lot are.

As for me, I think the government shouldn't release Kanu. Setting him free will only make other terrorist like Ekpa, Boko Haram, Bandits and other terrorist groups like IPOB wreck more destruction
The man should be released because he has committed no known crime. The other terrorists in the east should be arrested and tried, along with all the criminal politicians in the country who are equally terrorists - economic terrorists that have destroyed Nigeria to date. Of course, we all know that will not happen because the Nigerian people, including the southeasterners, are simply docile zombies with no bone to do the needful which is to call their government, beginning at the local, to order. undecided
