Politics › Christmas Day Tragedy In Ibadan, As Traders Beg APC Governor For Fire Station by kodded(op): 1:55pm On Dec 27, 2015 |
A fire disaster destroyed more than 250 shops and property valued at several millions of naira on Christmas Day at a plank market at Alaro area of Sango in Ibadan. Eyewitnesses said the inferno began at about 2pm on Friday from a building adjacent to the plank market as a result of gas explosion and spread to nearby shops, they also said; but for the quick intervention of men of Oyo State Fire Service, the whole market would have been razed by the raging inferno. Mr. Abiodun Awoleye, member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly was at the site to asses damage done by the fire. He sympathized with the traders and promised to sink a borehole in a bid to solve the problem of water scarcity in the plank market. The general secretary of the timber dealers association valued the loss to several millions of naira as the fire also razed four houses very close to the market and burnt half of the market. The general secretary of Ibadan Timber Dealers Association, Mr. Gbenga Fashoro promised that the authorities of the market would provide land for the government to build the mini-fire station, adding that fire disaster has become yearly occurrence in the market. He, however, described the latest tragedy as the worst so far. The State Governor was pictured in a photoshoot, same day, playing drought with members of his security detail. https://www.thebreakingtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Fire-destroys-Sango-market.jpghttps://www.thebreakingtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/aji.jpghttp://www.thebreakingtimes.com/christmas-day-tragedy-in-ibadan-as-traders-beg-apc-governor-for-fire-station/ |

For Praising Buhari on Budget.. I read the press statement of one of our most respected leaders, Senator David Mark, commending president Buhari and urging Nigerians to give him time, and I ask, when did we all become cowards in this nation? Suddenly, the respected David Mark, who has been a senator since the advent of democracy in 1999 and two time Senate President of our great nation, is suddenly afraid that if he does not patronize president Buhari and sing his praises he might not win the re-run election for his Benue South senatorial district. It is disheartening to read some of the comments by people who are supposed to be strong opposition figures in our nation. What these our leaders do not seem to understand is that you do not patronize dictators or appeal to them. You challenge them, you dare them to their faces. You face them squarely. Dictators get emboldened when they see that you are afraid of them. It is the collective responsibility of the oppressed and the victimized to challenge every dictator and see to the quick change of such dictatorial regimes through any legal means possible and not to be begging and appealing to them. The other day, it was Senators Stella Oduah and Ben Murray Bruce who were singing the praises of Buhari over the budget presentation. A budget that failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians, address core issues of the economy, unemployment and insecurity; an unrealistic budget, and a budget that has been termed a fraud by our great party, the PDP, but only for our elected senators to take a disparagingly different view from the official position of the party and turn around to praise the president. Some people have said Senators Stella Oduah and Ben Murray Bruce have the right to express their personal opinions on the budget and other national issues but I disagree with this assertion completely. Will a Republican or Labor party senator in the United States of America or United Kingdom disagree with the official position of his party on a fundamental issue such as this and make it public? The answer is never! Senators Ben Bruce and Stella Oduah are no longer private citizens but elected members of the National Assembly on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party. They would not have become senators if not for the party on whose platform they contested and won the election. No elected member of the PDP should publicly go against the official position of the party because this is the worst form of indiscipline a politician can demonstrate. Since independent candidacy is not recognized in our constitution, political parties are the vehicles by which many aspirants ride to power and as such these politicians can not continue to deride the platform on which they got to power. Have you ever seen or read any APC member going against the official position of their party? If you are afraid of Buhari because you embezzled public funds or have some skeletons in your cupboard while you were in government and cannot speak boldly like an opposition member, why do you not just go and join Buhari in APC like Rotimi Amaechi and others who today have immunity from prosecution because they defected to APC? If you really like the leadership style of Buhari why not go and join him in the APC? You should not be in our great party and be demoralizing our teeming members and supporters. The Olisa Metuhs, Ayo Fayoses and Femi Fani- Kayodes’ way is the only way to go. Face the dictator, look at him straight in the eyes and tell him to go straight to hell where he rightly belongs. When a terrorist group like the Boko Haram apprehends someone they believe to be an unbeliever, “kafir”, and they want to behead him, it would make absolutely no sense to start begging or appealing to them. What is expected of you to do is to look them straight in the eyes and spit on their ugly faces, then face death bravely and courageously knowing full well that you are going to meet your Heavenly Father, and that angels would rejoice when they see you. It will be despicable of you to be in that ugly situation, then you deny the faith, you begin to beg them, start appealing and accept their own belief. No matter the volume of your tears, pleadings and compromise, they would still behead you. I therefore urge the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, to henceforth, sound a clear note of warning to every elected member of our party never to go against the official position of the party and be ready to take disciplinary measures against anyone that flouts this warning. Political parties can not be administered without party discipline. Merry Christmas to all our members and supporters. https://www.thebreakingtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/PDP-vs-APC.jpghttp://www.thebreakingtimes.com/deji-adeyanju-pdps-social-media-director-blasts-david-mark-stella-oduah-and-ben-bruce/ |

Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose has described Federal Government’s announced reduction of petrol pump price from N87 to N85 per litre as a continuation of the deceit propagated by All Progressives Congress (APC) led government. The governor who also challenged the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed to relocate to Sambisa in Borno State or Yobe and move around there without heavy military security if indeed he was sure that Boko Haram had been defeated. Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said; “only God’s intervention can save Nigeria from the present economic and security problems as it is glaring that the man running the affairs of the country at the federal level does not have any answer to the problems.” He said; “Even the Holy Bible said in James 1:5 that if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask God and as it is, Nigerians must assist the President in asking for wisdom and understanding to tackle the country’s economic and security problems before Nigeria is further plunged into more woes with the federal government’s decision to borrow N2.2 Trillion, which translates to N6.066 billion per day to finance the 2016 Budget.” He described the Federal Government’s announced reduction of petrol pump price from N87 to N85 per litre as a continuation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government’s governance by deceit, saying; “Even secondary school students of economics know that you cannot deregulate and regulate at the same time.” The governor said; “it is only in a confused and clueless economy that government will plan to spend more when revenue has reduced by more than 50 percent.” Governor fayose & buhari http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/fgs-proposed-reduction-of-fuel-price-continuation-of-apcs-deceits-fayose/ |

Nigeria’s chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has assured residents of the north-east that 2016 will be a more peaceful year for them because Boko Haram “can no longer coordinate any attacks”.
He gave the assurance on Thursday after his operational visits to troops locations in parts of Borno and Yobe states.
He said within the time frame given by President Muhammadu Buhari, joint forces had decimated Boko Haram and substantially destroyed its enclaves on Nigerian territory.
“Going by the present pace and momentum of the military operation, no insurgent or group will be able operate freely by 2016,” he said.
“Since Mr President’s mandate, we have done a lot to defeat these criminals; we have degraded them in such a manner that they can no longer hold any ground in our country.
“They can no longer coordinate any attacks; we will, in the coming few days, completely close in on them, so the outlook for 2016 is bright. I want to assure Nigerians, especially the Northeast, that 2016 will be more peaceful.”
Buratai said that the military would consolidate on the successes recorded in the operations so far, stressing that there would be no room for the insurgents to operate henceforth.
At the army brigade in Biu and the armed forces special forces battalion stationed in Buratai town, the army chief conveyed the president’s congratulatory message to the troops for meeting the deadline.
He said that the president was pleased with the successes recorded, especially in meeting the timeline in fighting insurgency. But he urged them not to be complacent, saying the insurgents would employ desperate measures to survive the onslaught by the military.
At the base of 21 Brigade deployed from Damaturu to Buni Yadi, Buratai commended the soldiers for their efforts in curbing the activities of the insurgents in the area.
He urged the troops to remain alert and make good use of available equipment for the operations.
The chief of army staff reiterated the commitment of the army and other relevant authorities to providing the necessary logistics to enable troops sustain the momentum.
Buratai, who held durbars in all the locations visited, also addressed issues raised by soldiers and officers.
Some of the soldiers who spoke at the durbar expressed their desire to end the counter-insurgency operations and return home as soon as possible.

Politics › We’ll Persuade Boko Haram To Embrace Peace, Says Buhari by kodded(op): 9:11am On Dec 26, 2015 |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday expressed his
administration’s readiness to put machinery in place to
persuade the Boko Haram sect that has been unleashing
violence in some parts of the country to embrace peace.
Buhari made the promise while playing host to a
delegation of residents of the Federal Capital Territory
that included the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki,
who paid him Christmas homage in his official residence
at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The promise came less than 24 hours after the President
claimed that the Federal Government has “technically
won the war” against the sect.
In an interview with the BCC , Buhari had claimed that
the militant group could no longer mount “conventional
attacks” against security forces or population centres,
adding that the militant group had been reduced to
fighting with improvised explosives devices and
remained a force only in its heartland of Borno State.
But the President said on Friday that he would use
government institutions to persuade members of the
sect to allow peace to reign.
He however did not disclose the nature which the
persuasion would take and those that would be
involved.
“On Boko Haram, this government is determined to make
sure that we persuade them if they can be persuaded,
we will use government institutions to persuade them to
allow peace to reign,” he said.
The President stressed the need for all Nigerians to
come come together and pull the country out of the
problems that it has found itself.
He said while everybody in the world believed that
Nigeria is a lucky country because of its natural
resources, the country’s problem remained how to
organise its citizens and how to get the right leadership
in place.
He recalled that from the analysis of the All Progressives
Congress during campaign, the party discovered that the
country’s three biggest problems were security,
unemployment of youths as well as bribery and
corruption.
He noted that while the youth make up 65 per cent of
the country’s population, 65 per cent of them are
unemployed.
Buhari reiterated his position that there cannot be any
development without security.
He said, “We appreciate that the security agencies are
doing their best and their best is showing and we have
to continue praying for them. There can be no
development without security, we have to continue to
pray for them. http://www.punchng.com/well-persuade-boko-haram-to-embrace-peace-says-buhari/ |
Politics › Nigeria: INC Demands Implementation Of UNEP Report On Ogoniland by kodded(op): 8:50am On Dec 26, 2015 |
The Ijaw National Congress (INC), has called on the
Federal Government to implement the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoniland
and other affected oil producing communities.
This is contained in a communiqué issued on Thursday
by the INC at the end of its two-day Retreat and
Stakeholders Summits held in Warri, Delta.
INC also demanded that issues bordering on the take-
off of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Warri South-
West Local Government Area of Delta be addressed
urgently.
The congress chaired by Chief Edwin Clark also
demanded that ethnic nationalities should form the
basis of a true Nigerian federation.
While pledging support to the administration of
President Muhammadu Buhari, the INC urged the Federal
Government to address the issue of insecurity in the
country.
The INC bemoaned the inability of the government to
address the negative impact of oil exploration on health,
economy, culture and environment of the Ijaw people.
The Secretary-General of INC, Mr Bibobra Orubebe said
the summit had afforded the people better
understanding of the Presidential Amnesty Programme
in all its ramifications.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that more
than 1,000 Ijaw men, women, and youths drawn from 78
Ijaw clans, traditional institutions, professional and
socio-political bodies among others attended the event. http://allafrica.com/stories/201512240839.html |

Boko Haram fighters have been defeated to the barest minimum. No where in the world you can defeat suicide bombings. Politics › Huriwa Decries Fg’s Disrespect For Court Order On Nnamdi Kanu by kodded(op): 6:32am On Dec 25, 2015 |
Condemns silence by NBA, National Assembly Vexed by the persistent disrespect of various orders of the courts of competent jurisdiction directing President Muhammadu Buhari to free unconditionally and immediately leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, from the detention facility of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has criticised President Buhari for dragging Nigeria back to the military dictatorship. It warned him that his plot to institutionalise totalitarianism would be actively resisted. HURIWA, a pro-democracy non-governmental organisation, also carpeted the National Assembly and the national leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for do nothing while President Buhari flagrantly violates subsisting and binding court orders. In a statement signed jointly by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA said the silence of strategic stakeholders to the consistent rape of the constitution by President Buhari is disgraceful and reprehensible just as the group said it was heroic that the judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja reportedly stayed away from an illegal arraignment of Kanu by the federal government on treasonable felony charges when in fact President Buhari has committed high treason by refusing to obey a clear and binding order of the Federal High Court. HURIWA said: “ President Buhari stands absolutely condemned for his shameful act of disrespect of the court system which is granted the constitutional judicial powers of the federation. This show of shame will have adverse consequences on the international image of Nigeria because civilised people around the world would view Nigeria as a Banana Republic whereby the political leadership have no regard whatsoever to the rule of law.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/huriwa-decries-fg-s-disrespect-for-court-order-on-nnamdi-kanu/228820/https://cdn.akamai.thisdaylive.com/0bef99d6-acf5-4e2c-9779-8fa02ba3fcd4/assets/1144-Emmanuel-Onwubiko.jpg?maxwidth=400&maxheight=540 |
