slayer-01:
80% of first class, second class upper applicants failed NNPC exam - GMD

| Print | E-mail

Written by Gbola Subair, Abuja Tuesday, 16 August 2011

The just concluded recruitment examination conducted by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) recorded abysmal failure as 80 per cent of the applicants, who were mainly first class and second class upper graduates, failed the examination.

Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Austen Oniwon, disclosed this on Monaday while declaring open the 9th NNPC National Quiz Competition in Abuja

Oniwon, who disclosed that the NNPC was currently carrying out a recruitment exercise, stated that the result of the recruitment examination was not as good as expected as 80 per cent of the so-called first class and second class upper graduates scored less than 20 per cent.

Represented by the Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Dr Levi Ajuonuma, the NNPC boss disclosed that this abysmal record did not only heighten the NNPC management’s apprehension about the lack of functionality of our education format but goes a long way to underscore the need to shift focus away from mere paper qualification.

Disclosing that it would no longer be business as usual in the NNPC, the Group Managing Director said reliance on people to secure employment in the organisation was now a thing of the past stressing that the NNPC now placed emphasis on brilliance.

Apart from the NNPC examination, the GMD said the recently recorded nationwide mass failure of candidates in WAEC and NECO exams made the call for the urgent review of our school system more pertinent.

He said only a functional education that is skilled-based, that adds value to the nation’s economy and takes into consideration the skill-gap that exists in our nation today is ideal for Nigeria of today.

http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/26695-80-of-first-class-second-class-upper-applicants-failed-nnpc-exam-gmd
But did NNPC state the criteria used to determine if sm1 failed or passed? Did they set a cut-off; and what is the cut-off? Or they use their usual 'wuru-wuru to the answer' method to determine who passed.

CareerRe: How do I handle my randy boss by kokogee: 4:43pm On Aug 07, 2011
OfficePA:
I work as a PA to a man that is so powerful in my company. Even though he is not the owner of the company,  he practically decides what happens as he is a goal getter and a good manager, aside from being the brother to the owner who resides abroad.

When I joined the company, I didn’t suspect his being “over-nice” to me has having any ulterior motive as he is generally nice to people.

For your information, I am married with a kid, a Christian and NOTHING will make me defile my marital vow. As a matter of fact, I told him once that I was ready to resign my appointment rather than indulge in this his sinful gesture.

I have used every diplomacy available to relate with this man. To make the matter worst, he is suspecting I have informed my husband and this is making him uncomfortable with me, and this is affecting our duties in and outside the office. As of now, he is no longer troubling me about going out with him, but it seems he is fed up with me.

I am suspecting that my days in the company is numbered by his body languages but I need this job so much in order to support my family.

Please, how do I deal with this man. Your advice should be premised on the following:

1. There is no way I could avoid him as we work together.
2. I could not report him either
3. I CAN NEVER go out with him.
4. I am not ready to resign now until I have found an alternative.
U overemphasised how desperate are u not to loose the job. Let me ask u the following questions b4 giving my advice:
- is ur husband not working?
- are u sure u did not give the man an impression that u'r so desperate to keep the job?
- are u professional about ur job as regards job description and job specification.
- how did u get the job; is it on merit or 'connection'?

In line with the above, my advice:
if u got the job thru some undue influence and u'r not ready to 'pay' resignation is the best option for u or get sacked for incompetence; but if you adequately satisfied the job descriptions and specifications,  then continue with your job unshaken
- If ur husband is working, resign (esp if u got the job by 'connection') and let ur husband add money to ur savings so that u can set up a biz.
- For ur husband to set u up in biz, u need to explain  what happened to him and be sure u did not promise or gave an impression(may b that was why the man was 'over nice' to u as stated in ur comment) to the man that u'r willing to play ball
- When the man was 'over nice' to u, I expected that u b wary since he was more nice to u than he was to other employees; probably u were taking all the man's gift (when u supposed to turn them down politely or ask questions why all these gifts?) with the mind that he was a "MAGA”  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT PPL BACK THEIR WORDS WITH ACTIONS.

The truth is that almost all the Nigerian pastors are feeding fat while their followers suffer (Fela said this long ago).

But the problem is rather than them(Nigerian pastors) putting the money 2geda to float a non-interest bank like the Muslims are doing now, they are busy holding meetings against the Islamic banking survival while using church money to acquire private jets here and there. Why should a pastor own a private jet (talkless of fouuuuuuuuuuuur jets) when large % of the congregation are jobless and living in poverty?

Are men of God meant to amass wealth while ordinary ppl suffer?

GOD WHERE ARE U? PLS HELP NIGERIA!!!

The most painful thing is that the ppl they lead are so gullible such that they are mentally enslaved to thing that the pastors are only using their heads. This is why we see churches springing up everyday; church is now a lucrative biz.

The truth is what u'v said.

The funniest aspect of it is that this GEJ is ready to create ministries for his strong critics so that they allow him to be.

As for me, I'm not expecting any positive developmental actions from GEJ (even b4 elections were conducted), so GEJ can never disappoint me. The ppl that disappoint me now are the majority that put in all they had to ensure GEJ's victory for complaining; whatever GEJ is doing now should simply be seen as "dividend of democracy" or "fresh air"

In Onitsha, they deal on liquor, in Makurdi, they deal on Pork! This Islamic bank descrimate against these people. Have you seen the reliogious angle in it?

All Sanusi needed to do was to give the guidelines for Non Interest Banking and Islamic Banking can come under it. It is obvious that the Islamic banks will descrimate people based on their religiuos beliefs. Something is wrong somewhere.

Its just like Sanusi promoting a form of Banking that requires the clients to first accept that Jesus is the Son of God and that He was crucified on the cross and that he rose from the dead and that he is coming back again to judge the earth. What would Moslems say?
Ppl need to get things clear here; the definition of non-interest banking(a culture of the Muslims as contained in the Quran) as initiated by prof Soludo says : it entails banking in line with Islamic practices. Allah forbids interest on loan and pork & alcohol consumptions for Muslims. So if the bank is not taking interest on loans as instructed by Allah, I see no reason why alcohol and pork dealers should expect loan from such bank.

In view of the above, I think the pork & alcohol dealers can obtain loans from the conventional commercial banks or consult the CAN to look through the bible for xtian version of non-interest banking so that the xtian can put resources together to establish non-interest banks that follow the biblical injunction; then alcohol & pork dealers can obtain loans from such banks as long as the bible supports alcohol consumption. It is not compulsory that everybody would get loan from Islamic banks. even commercial banks give loan to only those that meet the condition(s) for giving loan.

Note: ISLAMI BANKING IS NOT COMING TO REPLACE THE CONVENTIONAL COMMERCIAL BANKING, SO ANYONE THAT'S NOT SATISFIED WITH THEIR CONDITIONS CAN PATRONISE THE COMMERCIAL BANKS OR ESTABLISH THEIR OWN NON-INTEREST BANK.

Sometime, our judiciary can be so disappointing. Ndi is highly fraudulent; the reason why banks were able to manipulate their share prices, the same way she was at the forefront of the sales of TRANSCORP(which nobody knows its position till today) shares. These misled so many people to loose their money buying those shares, while Ndi Okereke was busy making hell of money from those fraudulent acts.

You were absolutely correct when you said the CPC as a registered organization is a legal entity seperate from Buhari that can sue and be sued and also the fact that Buhari has the constitutional right to contest the elections in the court of law if not satisfied. Fine, point noted . . . but we should not dispute the fact that the CPC is going to court to fight in favour of Buhari perceived stolen mandate and the CPC is representing Buhari in the court of law. so can't we conveniently say that Buhari reneged on his earlier decision not to contest his mandate if he loses.  Well he is free to go to the tribunal if he feels aggrieved by the results while we will all wish him GOODLUCK in his quest  grin grin
Thank you for ur ability to know that orgn is separate from individual.

Let me say here in addition that for every orgn established, there are goals and objectives(as long as the goals are not illegal) which it strives toward achieving. The purpose of establishing CPC is to present candidates for the purpose of contesting elections under a free and fair atmosphere devoid of malpractices and foul play. However, if the paarty feels they have been shortchanged during the elections, who else would they be contesting results on behalf if not their candidate(s).

Whatever the outcome is would be accepted willy-nilly like b4, and history would be made again.

You are the greatest fool on earth since you cannot read properly. On my post I stated the issue of party contesting the result was made on the day of the election when he knew the tide was against him. Big fool you are for your analogy of Ibru=Oceanic as their is no link with the subject matter. CPC will die a natural death after they lose in the court. Those few who won on that platform will need to get to other party as CPC=VIOLENCE.
The truth is that what u have in your skull is a goat brain; that is why u'd think this shallow and display your stupidi.ty publicly and equate a party to whatever u like. Clearly, this is the aftermath of our education system. But I think you can still improve urself, afterall there are well known ppl like Bill gate who dropped out of University but did educated themselves. Mr Sill.y, as long as u rely only on the education u got from Nigeria sch with no effort to improve urself, you would continue to think like goat/chicken; ANIMAL IN HUMAN SKIN.

If your brain is dead, what I mean by the bolded is that the fact that sm1 is the founder/chairman of a formal orgn does not equate the person the orgn; they are two diff entities.

Having followed nairaland's politics closely for 2 months, i've come to d conclusion that the moderators of the section are directly to blame for d abuse that goes on here. Look @ the topic for example, "Buhari's CPC sues Jega, INEC". Why didnt the thread owner just say CPC. It is very inciting! And for all the members of the forum who always blame Buhari for everyone of Nigeria's problem, read the opening post very well. Clearly, it was the party (and not Buhari!) that is suing!
And i'm stil suprised that our govt has successfully convinced (or is it confused) us into believing it was Buhari who caused the post-elections riots in the North. Really? When did buhari become our security officer? Was he the one that caused the myriad of unsolved bombings in the country before n during the elections? No single person has been prosecuted for this. In my opinion(i may be wrong), our failure to arrest, prosecute and punish the perpetrators of these bombings only gave the demons in the North power to believe they could do whatever they liked and get away with it. And Buhari's loss at the elections only gave then an opportunity to carry out the barbaric act. I think we should stop making excuses for our public servants. My president (and therefore my chief security officer) is Goodluck, not Buhari. It's him I will hold responsible for my safety.
mcgboye, it is a serious issue that gov have successfully used poverty to brain wash ppl such that they cannot think right. If not, ppl not to necessarily join the moderator/poster in their stup.idity or may be bias and nonobjective frame of the topic.

The constitution of Nigeria states the responsibility of gov in terms of security as follow:
Chapter II, 14(2b):  the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of
                             government

With the above, it is GEJ who is responsible for any violation of lives and properties during the post presidential election violence that broke out.

Tell me what is the sense in the aboved bolded. Do want to argue that Buhari never said he was not going to contest the result. If on the day of the election knowing fully well he was going to lose badly made a slight u-turn to speak on behave of the party that they may go to court if they so wish. You mean you do not know CPC= BUHARI and can not be separated.
Think before posting a counter!
I don't know if u cannot read properly, but if u go back to my comment, I said Bhari said he would not go to court personally but he would not stop the party from going to court. The party is an organisation (a legal entity) while Buhari is a person. Both may go to court, which would mean two ppl joining in he suit.

If u think CPC =Buhari, u need to back to school bcs legally CPC is an entity different from Buhari. An example is the case of the sacked MDs(perceived by many to be the same as the banks) of some banks; ordinary ppl that think like u would say Ibru=Oceanic. USE UR HEAD AND THINK.

And what is the big deal if a result is challenged in the court? Is it against the Nigeria constitution to challenge election results in court.
PoliticsRe: Buhari’s CPC Sues Jega, INEC by kokogee: 10:17pm On May 07, 2011
Bensonite:
Surely it does not stop GEJ from being sworn in. The surprise is that Buhari said severally that he was not going to challenge the results. He had a plan B to use the aboki to kill sourtherners/chriatains and cause the country to go to war because of his ambition but now he his going to court after some corpers  and sourtherners killed .
I think the problem with Nigerians is that they use their personal view to judge issues instead of looking at issues objectively.

The truth is that on April 16, Channels tv aired an interview with Buhari where he was asked what he felt about the election; his(Buhari) reply was that there were reports of electoral frauds that he was getting from party member and that if the fraud made GEJ to win, he(Buhari) as a person will not go to court like before but his party(CPC) is free to contest any election results it felt were not justified.

Aside from the above, I don't know if going to court to contest election results is a crime. Afterall, proofs and evidences would be examined to determine the case at hand and whatever the result should be accepted in good faith.

@ cahaircover, is like u'r not getting clearly; the husband is indebted, u'r working but not indebted(since u said the wife is working) and probably the friend is working as well - would u still ask ur husband who is currently indebted to finance ur friend's ticket while u save all ur money? meanwhile the husband is still the house-maid after they run him into debt with unnecessary expenses of wife's friends and family.

What I can say is that the man has chosen a path to sufferness, bankruptcy and early grave if he continues that way. He needs to be a man that can stand and take decisions that ensures that they(him ans the wife) contribute to the workability of the marriage, else they should go separate. If a man borrows money to take care of his wife(who claims to be working) including the wife's friends and family, what about his own family?

The has not chosen to love the wife, but to be a SLAVE to the wife by trying to satisfy her(that do not even appreciate) by all means and put himself thru unnecessary psychological trauma. The man needs to set himself free b4 he wakes up to realise that the person he has sacrificed so much 4 still leaves him. WHEN A WOMAN IS FED UP, THERE IS NOTHING U CAN DO ABOUT IT - R. Kelly

What I can say to this is that the guy has overpampered her such that she now believes that the guy would be useless without her(since he wants to do everything including most absurd to avoid divorce) she is in control of the guy's life. The worst of it is that the guy is heavily indebted(buying gift and the wife keeps collecting the gifts) and still he is not able to know why the wife is behaving strangely after ten(10) years of marriage! WHAT A HELL THE GUY IS LIVING IN!!!

The question I keep asking is that: has anyman get married and his expenditure reduces? If NO, why do men have to pass thru near hell to get a woman to marry? even if you(Guy) passed thru challenges to marry, why should you suffer to keep the marriage? and if men should bear the burden of keeping a marriage going, WHAT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A WOMAN IN A MARRIAGE?; is their(women) responsibilities just to give birth to children and create problems in the house? I'M CONFUSED!
