A hero British Airways pilot averted disaster by bringing a 350-tonne plane taxiing down the runway at 90mph to a standstill in just nine seconds - saving the lives of everyone on board.

The pilot was readying the plane for take off when it burst into flames at a Las Vegas airport on Tuesday evening.

It had been bound for London Gatwick, and was travelling at 90 miles per hour when the left engine caught fire after a catastrophic failure.

Passengers described a loud band, and the increasing heat from the fire near the windows.

But in a mayday call to the control tower, the pilot remained calm and collected, asking for 'fire services' and then informing them 'we are evacuating'.

The passengers and crew exited the plane, which was still in the middle of the runway,

A few months ago she traveled to Nepal to backpack and help in the aftermath of April’s devastating earthquake.

Yehia, 25, arrived July 20 and kept in touch with home through social media. When she didn’t contact anybody after a WhatsApp message on August 6, her family and friends became worried, according to the “Finding Dahlia” Facebook page her family and friends started to help find her.

Last week, the family received the news they feared from the U.S. Embassy. Vehia was dead.

Kaski District Police Superintendent Hari Bahadur Pal said a man hosting Yehia in his home confessed to beating her to death and dumping her body in a river. The man met Yehia through couchsurfing.com, a website that connects local hosts with travelers, Voice of America News reported.

After being arrested on September 4, the suspect, Narayan Paudel, tried to kill himself by jumping out a police station window, police said.

Authorities are still searching for Yehia’s body. They haven’t offered a motive yet.

Jesus Aceves was born with a rare condition that means he has thick hair all over his face. About 30 members of his family also have hypertrichosis making them almost certainly the hairiest family in human history.

As a child, the thick, dark hair that covers his entire face quickly earned Aceves the nickname "The Little Wolf". He grew up in the small town of Loreto in north-west Mexico where, as a result of his appearance, his family was shunned by the local community.

The four men, who are chained around their wrists and ankles, are forced to watch as the flames lick towards them after a masked ISIS militant used a large torch to set fire to them.

Minecraft inventor Markus Persson claims he's 'never felt more isolated' since selling his company Mojang AB to Microsoft for £1.5billion.

In a series of a downhearted tweets this morning, the Swede spoke of how he disliked his new-found wealth and felt unchallenged and empty.

He wrote: 'The problem with getting everything is you run out of reasons to keep trying, and human interaction becomes impossible due to imbalance.

'Hanging out in Ibiza with a bunch of friends and partying with famous people, able to do whatever I want, and I've never felt more isolated.

'In Sweden, I will sit around and wait for my friends with jobs and families to have time to do shit, watching my reflection in the monitor.'

Persson has a personal fortune of around £1billion, according to Forbes estimates.

Construction of the world's longest - and deepest - railway tunnel, in Switzerland, is complete.

The NEAT Gotthard Base Tunnel, when it opens to the public on June 1 2016, will transport passengers from Zurich to Milan in two hours and 50 minutes, shaving almost an hour off the current travel time.

Measuring 35 miles, it surpasses Japan’s 14.5-mile Seikan Tunnel, which connects the main island of Honshu with the northern island of Hokkaido.

Work began on the ambitious project, which was funded by Switzerland at cost of around $10.3 billion or £6.5 billion, 20 years ago in 1996.

Over 2,000 workers were drafted in to excavate more than two million truck loads of earth from as deep as 8,000 below the surface of the earth.

Due to the rugged terrain of the alps, connecting important cities, such as Milan and Zurich is no mean feat, but thanks to the tunnel being almost completely flat along its whole length, trains will soon be able to travel at more than 150 miles per hour.

Excavation involved enormous tunnel boring machines cutting through almost 100 feet of rock every day. It was a dangerous process, and tragically eight workers died during construction

Geneva newspaper, TDG, reports that the first safety tests will take place in October. All scenarios will be considered and tested, said Marco Hirzel of Alptransit Gotthard at a press conference on August 24.

'After opening the tunnel, it will be the safest stretch of the Swiss railway network,' Renzo Simoni, CEO of AlpTransit Gotthard, told the newspaper.

In January, 1,000 people will be selected to take the maiden voyage.
