I want us to have the best players in every role willing and passionate to play for the team. I do not have preferred names but better players. I always like competition and the team improving. I already pointed out I want us focused on youth development. Meaning, I want every role challenged continuously.
So leave that Nwakali talk.
The most important team is the team should have players passionate to play for us and we should stop this red carpet treatment.
Is there a universal measurement for passion.
Dude the term passion is subjective to the extreme and it's a question of perspective.
You are too bigoted and fillrd with double standard and prejudice to make a selection of players based on objectivity.
You are the same one eltjst never stop eulogising Nwakali the personification of Mediocrity.
charlesemeka85: mk we Dey form pride wey we no even get as a nation
Better footballing countries like Italy,England,Germany,Spain just to mention a few they poach players that has links with them but once nff try una go Dey form pride wey una no get
Algeria tried to lure olise earlier at the same time with when we first approached him which he turned both down but they didn’t stop
Even till date they are still working hard to convince him to play for them whereas folks like u call the nff names as they re making a second approach
Dis is 2022 not 1980 or 94 so to compete with the best in word football u need to stretch your hands over board to grab the best you can
Thank you.
It probably went unnoticed but when Hudson Odoi went to Ghana he was welcomed by many including the President of the Nation.
TheGoodJoe: Who did I make an assumption of? Is it Tammy Abraham, Tosin Adarabioyo, Jordan Ibe, Nedum Onuoha, Eberechi Eze, Olise? All these have something in common. They are English. From reports, even Lookman took time to submit his transfer request letter.
The NFF should change its policy to reach out to them to play. Only players that are mentally prepared to play for us should we break ourselves for. All these traveling to beg and red carpet treatment should stop.
Let them enjoy their egos until they are ready to play. When they are ready to play, their agents can reach out to the NFF to alert them that the player is ready to play.
The NFF should have prestige.
The difference between me and you is my narrative is not harvested from the media.
Because they are English they are as all the same don't you think that's highly ignorant.
TheGoodJoe: Pinnick should stop all these red carpet treatments. These trying to convince these guys to play for us makes them feel like they are too special. They do not get that the only reason we are coming at them because they have little to no chance for England.
People on this thread should chill with all these celebrations of mostly these English borns. They are too cocky and feel bigger than their heads.
Look at Tomori, Tammy, and Ibe. Feeling special but mean little or nothing to England.
If the players are not ready to reach out to us that they want to play for us, forget it.
Finito.
You are making assumptions about people you have never met or even spoke to, but what's bad everything is negative.
In the just concluded Afcon, our defense lines were superb, losing to Tunisia had made a lot to talk shit about the team.
I don't mind see Bassey as our LB competing with Sanusi and Collins.....my question do we really need a world class CB before we perform as a team?NO and fine we don't even have one, left for the coach to bring the best out on the available ones,a team with Semi,Awaziem,Omeruo,Ekong and Balogun should not be disturbed and our outing at last Afcon testified that we have a good defence line.
I watched Bassey with keen interest recently and I would say a very promising young guy with full potential as LB but would be a great asset as SE squad member cos he can also do it as CB,meaning Collins out and one CB shoukd be dropped to give way for additional midfielder.
Irrespective of longevity in the SE your club and league performance are still a barometer for selection to any national team.
We don't know how good someboyis until given justifiable opportunity and selection. Omeruo looks slow dated and unable to cope with physicality from strong physical forward players.
In the last AFCON Ajayi seemed a lot better to me, in addition Ajayi brings aerial dominance at set pieces and in defence. What does Omeruo bring , old age , longevity ❓ He should be dropped. We need better.
Calvin is clearly better even better than Balogun.
Eizzy003: I just da laugh most of wanna for this thread, they sentiments and double standard wer wanna da practice ehhh, I remember last week most of you guys here wer bashing and insulting Hudson Odoi simply because he said he was only going to play for Ghana after the world cup qualifiers, most of you here insulted him and called him glory hunter, that if he were to be a Nigerian you guys will never allow him into the team, cos he doesn't want to suffer with the team during qualifiers but he wants to enjoy in the world cup. Now Olise has said the same thing (that he is going to play for the SE after the qualifiers) and you guys are here praising him for making a right decision, for accepting to switch blah blah blah. Mak wanna remember sa what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.
Actually Hudson -Odio does not qualify to play for Ghana until after the qualifiers. He has 3 senior England caps one in a competitive game but all played before he was 21. This allows him to switch after three months when the FIFA mandatory time lapse would have expired.
andrewbaba44: Wetin segunda player want fine come epl when there is Laliga there or are you smoking Igbo ?
Pedri left las Palmas to Barcelona and went on to become the best young player at the euros and won the golden boy award
Please name any championship player that has won the golden boy award ?
Better player follow where the money is ? Lol
Mitrovic is earning 100k at Fulham currently so Na just money championship get and nothing
You are clutching at straws and making a false narrative.
Pedro was essentially a youth player before he had played his first game for Las Palma's he was already in negotiations to sign up with Barcelona.
He played his first game for Las Palma's at 16 on August 16, 2019 within two weeks he was contractually signed by Barcelona. Allowed to complete the season and after that he's been at Barcelona.
That's totally misleading he is not a Segundo division created and found player. He is essentially a young Prodigy from Barcelona. His award's were won as a Barcelona player.
Jordan Ibe played for Wycombe Wanderers at 15 , Liverpool bought at 16. Would you call him a league one player.
I reiterate tell me how many player's have left the Segundo division to the top 5 teams of European football then top 5 of La Liga, then the EPL, Seria A, Bundesliga ❓
That's the question stop muddying the waters and changing the goal posts.
Meanwhile it seems you have a very short memory. Let me remind you, 27th March 2018 , friendly football match in London Nigeria vs Serbia, we got beat 2-0. and who scored the two goals after mashing up our defenders Mitrovich. Dude dominated in the game.
Finally, I doubt if there are any Segunda Division players good enough for the EPL. That's why there are none in the EPL.
andrewbaba44: Na money championship get and nothing else
Kicking legs doesn’t mean football is tough there
Better player's follow where the money is.
Tell me how many Segundo division players left that moi moi poor quality league to the EPL ❓or Seria A, or the top 5 clubs in La Liga, Or to the Bundesliga ❓❓
yinkeys: Dennis seemed uninterested to play for Nigeria at Afcon Osihmen was hit with covid excuse. He wanted to play for Nigeria Ighalo was also denied the opportunity, he was upset and moved to another Saudi club
Consider the bold , you are being negatively presumptuous.
Unless Dennis said he was not interested you cannot make that assumption.
yinkeys: I don’t support inviting Dennis Let Eguavoen do his job He knows the patriotic players. He was once a player so he knows their club issues. Pinnick should not force players on him except the 2 skippers Discipline, Good Attitude & Hardwork over talent any day No one is bigger than the country It’s a slap on the face of some players who genuinely dream of playing for Nigeria Nigeria can make people unpatriotic sha
If Olise said he’d play if we qualify for the World Cup then he has no business in the squad. The way Pinnick dey beg all these players sef. Mr Pinnick should cool down na Let Eguavoen do his job
This term patriotic seems to resonate when it's football and I don't know the definition of patriotism you anchor ⚓ your deductions upon.
Because so called patriotic leaders after destroying the nations educational systems, send their children to school in the UK, USA, Europe, etc
They then loot the public purse with reckless abandon.
Enthrone mediocrity, Godfatherism, Tribalism religious discrimination, Nepotism, etc. These so called honourables are called patriotic Nigerians.
But nobody questions their patriotism.
You are a hypocrite, with bigoted double standards.
Dennis and Victor O have done the exact same thing but one is villified and the other idolised.
Wow. What abysmal finishing to score a rocket from over 20 yards. Such a player cannot even succeed in English league two, let alone league one.
The second goal was even the worst, what a poor chip from the edge of the box on his weaker foot. He should have used more power in the chip like Premier league quality strikers do. He is such an embarassment to not only Nigerian football, but footballing history in general. Maybe with his height he may succeed in basketball, although it is highly unlikely because he always falls like a bag of beans anytime breeze blows him.
drDoom3: Wrong. He was good enough to easily get game time at Wolfsburg, he was just unlucky. As much as I complain about Victor he is still way above most other strikers his age technically. Physically he is a monster and that is mostly enough to succeed. However, if you want Haaland or Mbappe levels you need more and that is only where I feel he can do better because he has the potential.
I want to presume you are not familiar with professional football academies.
One of my friends a former footballer came from Nigeria and l took him to a EPL Academy to watch the U11s and then the U15s he was SHOCKED at the level of technicality at that age.
He is extremely aggressive he is not a physically dominating player, he is not that strong like say Anichebe of old.
drDoom3: Wrong.
He wasn't unlucky he just was not technically good enough to play first football at that TIME for Wolfsburg he had a lot to learn.
I don't think you understand, coming from Niger local football scene you will have a lot to learn.
The reality is our so called excellent Coaches according to some , simply will not teach you .
Truidstar: You are on a roll today bro...take is easy.
Go and look at Elijah Adebayo , Luton Town top goal scorer with 12 goals. See his physicality.
When he was at Fulham's academy I knew him more as a technical player. But the speed of the game in England makes managers frown at unnecessary dribbling and showboating.
More so at Luton Town quintessential English football team.
drDoom3: That's because no one in Serie A plays a high line against Napoli. It backs up my point earlier that the league is helping him conceal the poorer parts of his game which will hurt him in the long run. It is not an exaggeration or just a fluke, there have been flashes for a while now.
People call it HATE.
But when Victor was at Wolfsburg I could see why he was not getting game time. He was technically and tactically naïve.
He did not have the knowledge base to jump straight in and compete. It's in that context I said he would struggle at most academies in England.
I felt a move to a lesser league where his main attributes of speed and agility and as a true 9 he will have more success. That has happened but those handicaps are getting a bit more exposed now.
He has to learn, but for a £75 million player it may be strange to some.
drDoom3: The irony is that he was better at all those when he was in Lille. Ligue 1 is a very physical league, so having muscle and pace alone does not suffice. He had to learn finishing, positioning, and link up to succeed at Lille. Victor rarely missed one-on-ones at Lille, he was very efficient in his shooting especially at the beginning of the season.
Apparently, Serie A is not as physical, coincidentally, Victor was also adding muscle. It seems he started overrelying on physical dominance to oust opponents and his development in other areas regressed to an extent. For games against smaller clubs where you don't need to be prime Ronaldo technically to succeed, he was performing as expected. However, against bigger teams where strength is not enough and things like positioning and tactical awareness come into play, he seems to struggle. I would argue he should probably have stayed one more season at Lille to hone his tactical abilities before making the big money move.
Actually you have got it completely wrong.
The entire team strategy of Lille was centred on Victor O, it was simplistic when you have the ball look for Victor. When he was at Lille he made more sprints than every other player in the entire league. The consistently played to his strengths the ball played in front of or over the top as well as 1 -2s to create space for him to run on to.
This is the same problem that Messi is having at PSG where he looks at shadow of his former self. He is not the center of all strategy. It happened to Benteke at Aston Villa as well as with Grealish.
This kind of strategy may win you games but it doesn't help the development of the player he becomes one dimensional.
When the player leaves that setting, he has to learn a whole new level of technical skill sets in order to fuse with his new team and to have competitive edge. It is not easy and sometimes your not going to get enough time.
Finally, the player may not want to change and wants the team to change for him. Management may decide then to sell you before it becomes obvious that you have major handicaps.
Joebie: I have seen Sadiq in the national team. And my verdict is he is our #2 man! Osimhen is still the man. All the things Victor is being criticised for lately is just as a result of his recent games. Victor is still far from his full potential yet. And you know what that means.
In all honesty from what I have seen of Sadiq over the years from his abysmal mediocrity at Ranger's to his recent showing in the SE.
He will struggle in English league 1.
Maybe he need to stay in Segunda Division or the less competitive and much slower and not so physically taxing Spanish football.
Subzero47: While Pinnick and Eguavoen are jollying in London they should help out with Nwakali's club situation, I think Nwakali will be a pivotal member of the SE in the years to come
This bare faced double standard and favouritism.
The SE us not where you learn you bring what you have learned from consistent outstanding quality performance in your club and league. That should be the only basis for selection to the SE.
Nwakali has absolutely no business in the SE, there is no merit for his inclusion beyond favouritism Godfatherism and Nepotism.
As it stands Nwakali will struggle to get a club in English league 2.
zuchyblink: you are the one with misleading narrative. Some players are late bloomers and may not go to Europe or bigger clubs because of their age. Some are comfortable where they are Aboutrika,Gedo,Hossam Hassan, Hakan sukar, Ahmed Hassan,Rainford Kalaba, weal Gomaa,Ali Maloul,Rashidi Yekini,El hadry and others did not play in big leagues. Does it mean they were not good?
You clutching at straws.
You are taking a different time frame with entirely different dynamics to make a deduction on modern day football today.
Then you present disinformation, Yekini is still revered today ,l was at Sporting Braga 6/7 years ago and the Sporting Director was still eulogising about Yekini who was the top goal scorer in the Portuguese league at that time.
So please update a download a new operating systems we are using windows 11 and you are still using DOS. You are stuck in ancient history.
That narrative is an exaggeration from just one game. Make una calm down. You are not Napoli. Osimhen will not lack suitors and Napoli will not sell him easily.
Why do we present facts that don't justify your narrative. Look at what you are presenting and the comparison you are making.
It actually indicts Victor O it doesn't justify him it says he has not met the expectations, if you add last season it becomes even more concerning.
Lukaku is in the list of poor performance and has FLOPPED. However, most will agree for a striker who has been consistently among the top goal scorers in every league he has played for over the past 10 year's. Something is amiss not just player performance.
There is no question about the quality of Lukaku but more about the issues ongoing in Chelsea. Yesterday Lukaku touched the ball 6 times against Palace. Something is not right with Tuchel and Lukaku. A player who was the second highest goal scorer in Seria A last season with 24 goals.
zuchyblink: If you are good you are good. Let us stop eating players by the league they play. We have seen players in Egyptian, Tunisian, Saudi, Nigerian leagues make exploits in their national teams. It is fallacious rating a player by the league he plays. Odion Ighalo won AFCON golden boot playing in China, Vincent Aboubakar won AFCON golden boot playing in Saudi.
Aboubakar was an outstanding player before he went to Saudi Arabia proven, tested and consistent. It was his exploits that got him to Saudi Arabia on CRAZY money £££$$$$€€€€.
He did not drop I quality his quality remains he is just getting paid a lot more.
But when you have been playing all your career in backwaters league it's a reflection of poor performance low level quality and inability to rise to a higher standard.
Sometimes players drop standard and performance and drop to lower league where they can compete at that level.
Ighalo was outstanding in the EPL and on the basis of that performance followed the money £££$$$ to China and following that to Saudi Arabia for even more money. If he wasn't a quality player he would not have been invited to Manchester United.
So please keep matters in context and stop this misleading narrative.
TheGoodJoe: That is Jose Mourinho being Jose Mourinho. That is like Saying Peter Croych can play as a central defender and do well or saying Ndidi will flourish as a top nine.
Players suit particular systems. Theirry Henry's move to Arsenal proves that.
Now you know more than Mourinho but I don't know more than your local coaches.
TheGoodJoe: Honestly, can you even conduct a training session, let alone having more weighting. That is just blowing your trumpet. These are coaches with playing experience in Europe and coaching badges in Europe. Amunike has done technical studies for FIFA on repeated occasions but hey, komekn has more weighting, sorry way more weighting than them.
I've said this before you may have driving license it doesn't make you a great driver.
You can have a PhD in Business but you can't run a business for profit.
I really can't talk about me for the sake of anonymity.
I've seen young inexperienced coaches with basic qualifications Excel and coaches with high level qualifications like Amunike fail.
I know what ex international Nigerian born and bred players say to me about your so called esteemed Coaches.
My comments were specific and the context was clear.
Very simple for all Thier hyping and favouritism of Nwakali they can't get him into a club of substance in Europe or England.
I wouldn't even bother with him he is not even sellable to league 2.
TFLASHOGEE: Rodgers favourite player's are fit so he simply drop nacho in the Pecking order which is nonsense and disrespectful to the arguably the best player in Leicester last season bringing him on today for just 18 minutes waiting for nacho to produce magic as usual because nacho spoilt him with it last season saving his ass in every mess he finds him self
KC was outstanding last season but after 3 seasons of abysmal mediocrity. He was rewarded with a contract extension.
There were great expectations on him but once again new season and he has gone it seems back to his normal character, which is Mediocrity.
But then he is laughing all the way to the bank ,he essentially set up for Life. £115k a week is not small money in any league.
Ademola Lookman started off struggling for game time when the season started. Now look at Ademola Lookman MOTM against Liverpool FC and he has scored how many goals after 17 games ❓and playing from the wing. If you add the scoring chsncesy he creates in each game, he becoming a crucial player for Leicester.
