@ op, the truth is it's not everyone that can do exclusive BF for various reasons.

Like many posters have already alluded to the fact that milk flow differs and low flow may not be able to sustain babies except you want a cranky, hungry and starved baby on your hand. I for one assumed that I will do exclusive atleast during my 3 months maternity leave. So while going for my first delivery I didnt bother to take infant formula with me. Unfortunately, there was no flow at all for the first 2 days. I was advised to keep my baby on the breast that milk will flow. It later did but the flow was very low. On the 3rd day my by has reduced from 3.6kg to 2.5kg all because I wanted to do exclusive. I had to resort to infant formula to augment it. Afterwards, I started taking lots of fluids ranging from pap, tea, kunu, millet mixed with moringa leaf, mention it, I tried all. Need I mention how I wasted money buying breast pumps both manual and electronic with the hope that it will help increase flow. Even with all my efforts and strategies I would nurse my baby at regular intervals for over one hour and immediately I remove her from breast she will start crying. Nobody told me before I accepted my fate that exclusive BF is not for me.

Just like the op, my hubby initially felt I was not trying hard enough. He too was insisting on EBF and was reading all manner of articles on it. He made sure a big bowl of pap/millet was made available every 2 hours. I drank all and increased my food intake but for where. He understood the situation when he realized baby would not sleep at night even after hours of nursing until I give infant milk. With my second baby, I didnt bother my head going through all the stress I went through in the name of exclusive BF.

Op, to allay your fears, babies fed with infant formula are also very healthy, intelligent and smart. I am a living witness to that. My kids only visit hospitals for immunization and routine check up and they are doing fantastically well. Thanks, I really appreciate, she has done it for 3 months, am just encouraging her to finish it up for 6 months. I bought enough provisions and other things mentioned here to help her out. From the onset before the birth, we agreed on EBF, but what brought about this issue is that she feels the baby boy is not being fed well and she wants to start giving him SMA , but I just cant wrap my mind around formula feeding with all the preservatives added to it. NATURAL IS NATURAL.

My mom is also insisting on formula feeding saying boys eat a lot. Now they want me to start having a morality attack, as if am not being considerate. Well, I think I have to come to a compromise, but I swear, if i were to be a woman, I will do everything humanly possible to do EBF. Well its all good, different strokes for different folks.

Was she mentally and physically prepared for exclusive breast feeding before giving birth or do you think that it comes spontaneously?
Do you know the several factors that affect exclusive breastfeeding? From what you wrote, all the factors are in play here. You and your wife lacks the emotional and physical preparedness needed to support exclusive breastfeeding, the understanding of what it is and the advantages.
Both of you had to go back and source for materials to tutor yourself on EBF. The success of EBF stems from knowledge, emotional preparedness , what the woman wants and the support system she has. If any of them is lacking there is bound to be issues such as the one you are experiencing right now..

This ultimately will bore holes in your pockets as you spend money buying baby foods. Tongue lashing her for not breast feeding will strengthen her resolve not to.
This all boils down to what they the woman wants as not all woman is cut out for all that breastfeeding sh!ts.

No, she is not working, her reason is that the breast milk is not enough for the baby, while I encourage her to eat more to ensure the optimum production of breast milk. Her fears being she will get too fat if she continues to eat much. I don't like formula food for babies under 6 months

Its nobody's business if she decides to b feed or not and a woman shouldn't have to justify herself.
Ebf has numerous advantages however in the long term most children turn out fit and healthy whether ebf or formula.

2 children and I didn't ebf,they are fit and healthy.It is a thing for people to judge women who for their own reasons choose not to b feed.
For the men it's irking,you can grow a pair and do it yourself.

The numerous advantages of breastfeeding a baby outweighs any reason a woman might have not to breast feed unless on medical grounds. I tend towards thinking its a lil bit selfish of a woman to deny her child that.

The funny part is that the formula feeding is gotten from a cow's breast milk, so why not give the child the real deal.......

on the contrary, ebf actually helps most women stay fit and shed pregnancy weight.
Breastfeeding does not sag breasts either.
None that I know of or can think of.
tea, pap, pepper soup with uziza, oats, vegetable soup with lots of spinach, carrots, fenugreek seeds etc

PS: while the pros of ebf cannot be quantified, some women for one reason or another cannot do it either because of health reasons or they just can't and don't produce enough milk. In such scenarios they have no choice but to use formulas. Breastfeeding or not does not make one a good mother, or not.

Breastfeeding is a sacrifice and it is hard. It may be what's best for the baby but some women are incapable of it or do not produce enough milk. I was one. And no matter what I did, nothing worked to increase my supply to EBF (not until I stopped trying). It can turn a woman mad because people are putting pressure on her and judging her because of something she has no control over. Women have starved their children to death in desperation trying to EBF and refusing to give formula. Sit her down, pull up close to her and ask "what's really going on with this EBF, you know you can confide in me". Then open up websites about breastfeeding and both of you look at the info together. If it's just for purely cosmetic reasons, you have shown her she's wrong. If she had concrete fears (she may have been watching your child lose weight and listening to nosy people comparing your child to a plumper baby), you have allayed them and slain her dragons. Which is what every woman wants in a husband.

Or you can keep snapping at her. Whichever works best.

I will try to get her to eat more of the foods mentioned to enhance more breast milk production. I really want her to do the EBF for 6months at least.

I just need the opinion of matured minds. Is the exclusive breastfeeding of a baby for 6months a sacrifice too tasking for a mother to give a child.

The only argument against it I get is " I will be too fat", " I will not be attractive anymore", but are these excuses enough to deny a child the huge advantages of exclusive breastfeeding.

I had to do some research and found out that not eating enough food hampers the production of breastmilk, now that will in turn make the baby to always be hungry, deliberately trying to force the introduction of Formula feeding.
