At least in the Tech industry where I work; I know that software is usually translated into multiple languages to enhance its reach due to a factor called localisation. Wait! Did you think the French use an English version of Twitter, Facebook or Whatsapp?

Why Nigerians so much look down on their local languages baffle me.

If Facebook (the same Facebook that now has 2 billion users) has been translated to Hausa, then it means that Hausa is important to Facebook. I bet you didn't know that. What if I also told you that the popular Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite has Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba language packs? I know because I have the Yoruba language pack installed on my PC. If these powerful Corporations are conscious of how local languages drive the adoption of their products, then we that own the languages should not trample on them.

Language is and will continue to be a very powerful tool for economic, psychological and social development.
