@bigrovar most common inverters dont charge with 58v for a 4 batt setup, prag is even 13.3v, mustpower stated 14.8v but i dont see that when my batts are charging

The charging voltage increases gradually,

The 14.8 is the supposed Max charging volltage when on routine charge (when not equalizing)

If you dip your​ battery so much and start charging, just note how the DC voltage on the display increases and more juice gets into the battery untill it gets to absorbing unto float

Is your inverter 24v or 48v?

The higher the system voltage, the more stable and (on the long run) more economical as well better room for expansion.

If you need to conduct a load test, 10seconds will not give you what you really seek to know

If I may ask, how much load did you subject the batteries to and how?

[i]i have once done a 5mins load test and all passed but client complained more and did more longer test an saw the culprit, replaced just that battery and all was fine

if you noticed, the variation pre and post aint much

they may be just healthy but 10 seconds wont do it for me.

The rule of thumb to make this easy to achieve is never to take from the battery more than you can give back. Although I have a 220AH battery at 24 volt which is about 2600AH at 50% DOD. I never discharge it more than 1500wh a day (about 29% dod) not because I can't go further but because if I do I might struggle to charge the battery back to full with my 660w panel array. Thankfully since my system went online my battery always gets to float every single day. Battery rest voltage never dropped below 24.7

I have installed some systems for customers and they are doing pretty well , I own one as well though not that a big one but I am sure and know how RE guys are monitoring and watching their systems like hawks.

Except for a few inverters that's got some adjustable DOD settings, most dip more than 50%.

In a bid to paint an awesome image, we tend to make certain comments that make some new guys feel they have issues with their systems.

I always tell any prospective client, we do a load calculation and you know what to expect,(sometimes I over estimate so that when the customer gets more, he would be happier)

Alot of installers don't even do any load check, they dump a system which most probably is well done but undersized and the client would say "this thing no dey work"

We post images of our systems best moments , yes it's a good thing but I need us to be more clear to make new guys know certain factors could get Dem less back up time.

I installed a 1000w solar system with a 3kw,4800wh inverter+battery for my mum and the stuff has been amazing,

The major load in her house is a deep freezer and a TV+decoder and fan. And the system has an uptime of about 90% ,that's because she manages it well enough with timer switch for the freezer.

About lifepo4, its still very young but I ay just give a shot at it when I have some $ to spare

Yes, rule of thumb says max 3 strings.

Come to think if it, if u connect 20batteries in a 24v system, how would you get them charged?

Nothing Kills a battery like undercharging.

If owner wants higher backup power, increase the DC voltage to maybe 48v or get lower voltage and higher AH batteries.

The truth is that every pro solar power system design and installers knows that it's necessary to oversize-
- to provide power for not_too_good days with the sun
-also to be able to maintain a certain DOD and get more life cycle out of the battery

In Nigeria, customers and users when sold the idea likes it but the determinant is finances.
They would rather start small and grow to the point of achieving the expected results as per your advice.

But for now that solar power system products are not subsidized, let's do as we can afford

Deep cycle is a generic name for batteries that are designed to be (well) deeply cycled (cycle being a discharge and charge) as against automobile batteries which are not design for deep discharge.

Gel, AGM and Flooded acid batteries are all types of deep cycle

for FLA, Trojan is the king of the hill, US battery is also top dog but if they are beyond your reach, Luminous and Mercury tubular batteries are also good.
