SlowlybtSurely: Sis, let me not sugar coat this thing; it's going to be very difficult.
Estimate of monthly bills; Rent: $1,200 (2 bedroom basement, with utilities inclusive) Groceries: $300 Before and After Sch Care: $1,200 Transportation: $120 Phone bills+internet: $100 Miscellaneous: $200
Total of $3,120 and this does not include the money needed for school and to settle in initially. Unfortunately, you won't be able to make this much working only 20hrs per week. It could be manageable if you were coming in as a PR, cos you will be eligible for some benefits and grants. So except you have some good savings. . . It's going to be financially, physically and mentally draining.
Is there a trusted family member or friend in Nigeria that you can keep your kids with? Your studies is just for one year, you'll be done before you know it. Kids are more resilient than we give them credit for. They'll join you once you finish your studies and have your post graduate work permit. Thank u so much, so I can get one bedroom apt? For like $600 And the day care is so high God |

19CannyMum: I think you should take is one step at a time, right now the step you should worry about is getting your visa.
I don't know much about what students are entitled to and I don't know about prices in Ontario.
For Alberta as a PR, you'd get about 1350 in CCB. Free healthcare, extended healthcare for the children (dentist, eyecare, prescriptions) under Alberta Works Dayhome subsidy of about 900
You'll pay about 1k rent for a 2br basement (utilities included) About 600 for dayhome/afterschool (parent portion after subsidy) Groceries about 300 monthly Bus pass comes with your fees. Stay on a street with a school or 2, and a direct bus to a supermarket and train station. There'll probably be a dayhome opposite the school (My street is exactly like this, I'm not just yarning dust).
If you work for 20 hours at minimum wage, you will earn about 1k. Arrange your work hours to be daytime while your children are at daycare. Spend the evening with them. Do your homework while they're asleep.
If daddy is in the picture and working in Naija, hopefully he can support with like $500 monthly to keep the budget balanced.
Like I said I don't know much about Ontario, or if students get all these benefits and subsidies. Just dropped this here for any single mom (with no more than 2 children o! It becomes punishment when they're too plenty lol) planning to come to Alberta and having similar fears. Thank u. I really appreciate |

DivineGrace123: Gbam!
Ma’am Koonleh, the above is just the truth. It will be very tough. In Ontario for instance, as an international student, you will not be eligible to apply for most benefits. Also, coming with two kids with no support will be physically and mentally draining just like Slowlybtsurely said.
Yes, I have someone who can help with rent, he just want to knw Aw much it’s going to cost him. So he will decide if he is capable or not. Can’t leave my kids. At all.
I appreciate u all
You can try to do the above if it will be possible. Wishing you the best.

zeelo2014: For a single person, your budget for a room + utilities is $500-600 depends on the location, this will be a room in a shared apartment or basement. Transport- $100 Food-$100-$200 depends on you. phone- $25-$50 Am so grateful. Thank u |

einsteino: Congrats on the admission. To be honest it isn't easy to do, if not almost impossible. However, I have learnt that everything depends on how you plan out things and what you are willing to trade off. I am studying for a fulltime Masters degree and I have managed to swing a fulltime job along with it. TBH, it is torture, the kind that makes me realise that something has to give sooner than later. It's a life of high bp and wondering if you would make it through. However in the words of Friedrich Nietzsche,"He who has a why can bear almost any how". So, you have to really look inwards and ask yourself "what is your why?". Would it be concrete enough to propel you through such a demanding life? I hate to sound like a blind optimist or a delusional motivational speaker, but sometimes life is such a hell that a dab of optimism is the only way you can get out of bed. There are many people here with a story that should not have been possible, I know a few like that. However, you would also have to ask yourself if you have the resilience that their story demands.
If you don't mind my asking, are you coming as a permanent resident or you intend to apply for a student visa? Do you have a spouse? if yes, is he willing and able to take hold of the kids? Do you have relatives here that are willing and ready to accommodate you? How much do you have set aside for living expenses(I guess you have tuition sorted out already). I am sorry if my questions are intrusive but without these answers, it is difficult to help with a realistic answer to your question. thank you, i am coming with a student visa, no husband,no relations pls can i get an idea of price of one bedroom with other bills. am trying to see the financial implications to journey so i plan ahead. thank you |

Anon123: Lemme be honest with you ... diploma Thats a problem.. You might get denied with the reason "purpose of visit". The VO will wonder why arr you going for a diploma when you have BSC or HND (where is the progression there). why not a PGD. I would advise you go for a PGD in culinary management. thank you for ur reply, i appreciate. i was on the opinion that since this is an just for my career, perhaps they dont have a pgd in culinary management. i understnd your point, but this is my career progression (my thought.) although i also got an offer for 1 year graduate certificate in hospitality and tourism, which has limited relation to my career, should i go for this? |

Pls I want u all to help me analyse this situation before applying/ paying sch fees after getting admission
A single mother of 2, (4&6 years), bsc sociology 2011, 30yrs of age, career as a chef since after NYSC, got admission for 2 yrs diploma in culinary management. I just concluded 6 mth training in a chef sch, I also just opened a company registered with CAC for my chef sch and other things like poultry
I want to apply with the kids cuz dnt want to leave them alone, but I heard leaving them behind can be like home ties or take the youngest one. If I leave them, their father can come US to pick them or rather stay until they can visit me
Pls the house advice on this, and with my company and self sponsorship with 2 landed property in my name, what are the others things that Can guarantee financial stability.
Thank u so much. |

Lekiboboe: This has nothing to do with her Study Visa Chances, and its not a must, except a co-op is an integral part of the program she got admitted for.
If a Program has a Co-op component, that means when the students get to the Point of Entry in Canada i.e Airport (after getting an Approval), she will be issued two different work permit ,
1. Normal Work Permit 2. Co-op work permit
but note that, there are cases the VISA OFFICER would forget to issue a second work permit (co-op) and just give only the normal work permit, so kindly inform the officer immediately and ask for the second work permit.
So while this person is applying online for a Canada study Visa, in the Questionnaire part of the application, she will be asked " Is there a Work Component in ur program "?.
If the program has that, that She will answer. " yes",
She stating yes means that she alrdy have a letter from that school stating that the program has a Work Component (Co-op), the letter mostly comes together with the Letter of Acceptance/Admission Letter.
When this happens, she would need to split the Co-op Letter from the Letter of Acceptance the School Sent to Her, so she can upload the Evidence of Co-op letter in its appropriate uploading section.
So its when she gets to the Uploading of documents/form section, she would see a column which says, Evidence of Work Requirement in Study that's where she gonna upload that Co-Oop Letter.. (Reason why she is seeing this is cos she said YES that her Program has a work Component in the Questionnaire)
SO having a Co-op is not a must, except a co-op is a compulsory course component of that course, and if the school says she must have a Co-op work permit, they would be the one to give that person a Letter that will be presented at the Point of Entry in CANADA to get a Co-op Open Work Permit. Thank you for the enlightenment, i really appreciate. |

KennyUG: It's not that easy and also it's not that hard The problem is that you won't be able to get 100% scholarship but I can guarantee you 50% scholarship
Tuition fee 100 - 1000$ (that's if you are ready to study in Turkish language)
Tuition fee 300 - 3500$ ( this is for causes taught in English language)
For the last question you asked; you have to ask your sister that one she is the best person to give you an answer Thank u for ur reply, Pls which part seems hard, the visa or the admission? |

Insanity: Which school are you applying to? Is WES ICAP course by course evaluation a requirement? Which document is WES requesting you to upload? You can mail them to clarify this for you. To the best of my knowledge, once they have evaluated for you before, they will request for the recipient's details, not to upload another document. Your best bet is to contact WES and ask them. Thank u, it’s the sch that wants me to upload my transcript. And for now school in Nigeria are closed, so I can’t get it agn, my best bet is to use the one with WES. I guess I will contact the sch. |
