Anyone that tells them the truth about themselves is automatically ibos in their eyes. I've been called ibo many times before. They even start insulting SE based on what I said. Let's see if they rename UNN tomorrow and people will not resist it. It is fallacious to say Yoruba people protested GEJ's subsidy removal. While I agree that the protest had political undertone from APC, nobody stopped PDP from sponsoring a protest when Buhari did same.

Naming a university after MKO in the SW was a move meant to reduce the man to a regional politician. A national holiday is far better. That is my opinion.

Most of the subsidy removal protest was done predominately in South West states if we exclude the North state. Yes we had few protest in other areas but in South, the protest was more focused on Yoruba states. Some Yorubas on this website even attacked others for not joining the politically induced protest. It is safe to say yoruba protest against the subsidy removal by GEJ but yet kept quiet when Buhari did it. North had an intense hate for GEJ for both his ethnicity and religious background. What was Yorubas reasons? It was obviously not for the benefit of the country and people as Yorubas would have had the same reaction when Buhari did it too.

We cannot be sure Yorubas reaction if Buhari attempt renaming the University; we can guess based on Yorubas reaction to Buhari's act recently. You said the reason why Yorubas were in support of Buhari's act but were against GEJ's act is because Buhari made MKO scarifice as a national holiday while GEJ kept it as a regional politician. isn't June 12 still currently a regional holiday? Beside Yoruba states, which other states announced June 12 as a public holiday? Currently, June 12 is not a national holiday. It is still a regional holiday. Currently, June 12 declaration is a promise of it becoming effective next year ironically, after the election. Based on Buhari's track record to his promises, the chances of him following through with that promise is slim. We cannot guess but we can judge based on his uphold to his past promises.

Stop waiting on Buhari and continue developing. Buhari hates the South and he's shown that many times. If he can rid of us all but keep the resources, he'll do it quick. He's a bigot! Governor Dickson should stop waiting on him and move forward. MKO lost in the East and our Igbo brothers voted for a Northerner in 1993 yet I have not seen anyone say that the Igbos hate Abiola. It is politics and it is democracy. The same Yorubas that you claim hated GEJ were at the forefront fighting for his right against the Northern powers. They even voted for him in 2011 and also rigged in his favor. However, 4 years later they felt he had not done enough for their region.Even at that, in 2015, GEJ still had around 42% of SWern votes which shows many still wanted him. GEJ also made some bad decisions such as undermining OBJ in PDP and releasing Major Al Mustapha who many Yorubas feel was a villain in MKO's saga.



On renaming Unilag after MKO, I will salute GEJ on that but it is extremely difficult to rename schools like Unilag, UNN and UI after anyone at this point. ABU was easier to rename after Ahmadu Bello because the school was still in its infancy when it was renamed. Many Yoruba graduates of OAU still do not like the idea of renaming the school after Awolowo although most like Awolowo himself. GEJ did not do proper consultations before he tried renaming the school. The students and alumni of the school did not like the idea. I don't think people will be silent if UNN is named after GEJ tomorrow.

Making June 12 a national holiday is by far more dignifying in my opinion. Also the official recognition of Abiola as the winner is soothing.

Currently, there's is no guarantee that June 12 would become a national holiday visiting Buhari's administration track record on going back on his promises. Currently, the only states that made June 12 a holiday is south west states. I went to work on June 12 and so did everybody in my states. June 12 is just a Yoruba affairs as of current.
