In Judges 14:5-6, 19, the Spirit of God came mightily upon Samson, and he tore a lion apart with his bare hands. If you have ever come across a lion, you would know that what Samson did was no ordinary feat; it could only have been by the Holy Spirit. In Judges 15:11-15, when He was bound and delivered to his enemies, the Spirit of God came upon him mightily, and the ropes binding him fell off as if they had been burnt by fire. He then took the jawbone of an ass and killed 1,000 men with it. That was only possible because of the Holy Spirit. David also achieved the impossible with the help of the Holy Spirit. After Samuel poured oil on him, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him from that day forward (1 Samuel 16:13), and the effect was tremendous. A mere shepherd boy went on to kill a lion, a bear, and a giant who was troubling his people and defying his God (1 Samuel 17:34-50). As great as those things were, they were only the beginning of the wonders God would do in David’s life. At one time, Saul wanted to get him killed, so he asked him to get the foreskin of a hundred Philistines as bride price to marry his daughter. It was a suicide mission, but because the Spirit of God was upon David, he got two hundred foreskins and returned unharmed (1 Samuel 18:25-27). He did over and beyond what was required because of the Spirit of God upon him. If you consider how far God has brought RCCG – from a small church in the corner of a slum in a third-world country to having parishes in over 190 nations of the world and several thousands of hectares of land as campgrounds around the world – you will know that these seemingly impossible feats were only made possible by the help of the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit helped Samson, David, and the RCCG as a church, He can help you also. If God has told you about great and mighty things that He intends to achieve through you, or if you are faced with a seemingly impossible task, do not focus on your limitations; instead, ask the Holy Spirit to overshadow you as He did with Mary (Luke 1:35). He will supply you with the strength and wisdom you need to achieve the impossible because, with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
When Jesus died on the cross, the veil that separated us from God was torn. Matthew 27:51 says that when He died, the veil separating the Holy of Holies from everybody except the High Priest was torn from top to bottom. God Himself took the curtain separating us from Him and tore it. Ephesians 2:12-16 says that the wall between us and God was broken by the blood of Jesus. His sacrifice meant that we could now come in contact with God; His death opened up a new era for humanity. Now, everyone has full access to God through Jesus Christ. It is because of Jesus that I can call God ‘Daddy’. It is because of Him that everyone anywhere, regardless of their skin colour or social status, can experience God’s presence. Jesus died so you can have an intimate relationship with the Father. Is your relationship with God distant or intimate? Jesus died because He wants you to relate with the Father personally. To what extent have you opened your heart to God? The torn veil signifies the destruction of everything that can keep us from enjoying God’s fullness. Are you sick in your body? Are you in the bondage of addictions? Are you tormented by demons? Jesus tore the veil so that you can access health, deliverance, peace, and freedom. You don’t have to continue struggling through life when you can enjoy all that Jesus’ death has made available to you. I pray that everything hindering you from enjoying good health and peace will be torn like that veil, in Jesus’ name. The torn veil also signifies a new beginning. It means that the old has been taken away. You can now enjoy newness and fullness of life. While the veil remained in the temple, people lived under the old covenant, but as soon as it was torn, mankind was ushered into a new covenant. Hebrews 12:24 says that Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant, and His blood speaks for us. As we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, may His blood speak better things into your life, and may you experience new beginnings in every area of your life where you need newness, in Jesus’ name. Lastly, the veil represents Jesus’ body (Hebrews 10:19-20). His flesh was torn so that yours can be whole. I pray that from now on, you will experience wholeness in every area of your life, in Jesus’ name. Happy Easter Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Several years ago, we used to advertise and print fliers to announce upcoming services. If we did not have enough money for fliers, we would just use our mouths. Occasionally, we would get nails, empty bottles, and empty cans and beat them together as we sing and dance through the streets, telling people about an upcoming service. Sometimes, we would write the information for an upcoming service on blackboards and place them at different crossroads. If we saw an abandoned lorry covered with dust, we would write on the lorry, informing passers-by of upcoming services. Today, God has given us more efficient and effective ways of communicating the gospel to people, and Luke 12:48 says that to whom much is given, much is expected. I often say this: use every method you have to bring all your friends, relatives, and even enemies to Christ. I always say, “Phone them, text them, email them,” then I add jokingly, “iPhone them, iPad them, Facebook them, YouTube them, blog them, tweet them, uplink them, and even download them.” When you see something on the internet that you want to save to your computer, you download it, so when I say ‘download them’, I mean, you know where they are, and you know where you want them to be, simply save them into the body of Christ. Beloved, let God know that you will use everything He has given you to advertise Him: your smartphone, professional network, social media influence, etc. If you truly use all that you have for Him, He will trust you with more. Therefore, go all out to make sure you download everybody you can into the body of Christ. If you don’t know what to say to them, just invite them to services where you know that the Holy Ghost can arrest them. Use every means possible to bring people to Jesus. In John 4:1-39, the Samaritan woman brought her townspeople to Jesus. She didn’t use big grammar to try to convince them; she just told them, “Come and see a man who told me all the things that l ever did. Is this not the Christ?” She used her testimony to download her people into Christ. You can also use testimonies of what God has done for you to bring people to Christ. Whenever God does anything for you, use the testimony as a tool to bring people to Him. Let your life be a billboard that points people to God always. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
In Acts 1:8, Jesus said that you will receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon you, and you will become a witness. A witness produces proof. When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you become someone who can produce proof that Jesus is the Saviour, the Healer, and the Deliverer because He will reveal these divine attributes through you. Your lifestyle must reflect that Jesus is in you because He said that people will be known by their fruits (Matthew 7:16). Being a witness means showing what it means to be a genuine child of God. All parties involved in a court case are expected to invite witnesses who would make statements in their favour. The testimonies of the witnesses are expected to strengthen the argument of the parties that invited them. Your lifestyle as a witness of Christ should strengthen the faith of others, not weaken it. Your life should draw unbelievers to Jesus, not push them away from Him. Your primary task as the Lord’s witness is to follow Him sincerely and use everything He gives you to lead others to Him. Don’t be the reason people vow never to follow Jesus because, as a witness, your life has told lies about God’s nature and personality. Whenever your words and conduct speak lies about Jesus, you become a false witness. While false witnesses tell lies about what they have seen, another set of people, whom Paul called false brethren, claim to have seen things they have not. They act as witnesses when they haven’t seen anything. Paul spoke about the dangers he faced at the hands of false brethren (2 Corinthians 11:26). Some of them came into the Galatian church and wanted to enslave the true believers there (Galatians 2:4); they came with high-sounding opinions that were contrary to God’s will. You must beware of false brethren because they carry a contrary spirit. They twist the message of Christ and turn the grace of God into a license for immorality (Jude 1:4). Such fellows say that once you have received Jesus, you can live anyhow because the grace of God covers you. They also feign godliness for their personal gain. Paul warned that we should withdraw from such people (1 Timothy 6:5). Beloved, as Christ’s witness, you must be careful that your life doesn’t speak lies about Jesus, and you must also take care not to fall into the trap of those who profess to be witnesses of Christ but have never met Him. In Luke 1:26-38, an angel visited Mary and told her she was going to be pregnant and that she would give birth to a special son who was going to be great. Mary said, “That’s wonderful, but are you forgetting that I am not married yet? I have never known a man; how will a virgin conceive?” The angel said, “The Holy Ghost will handle that because, with God, nothing shall be impossible.” Imagine what could have happened if she tried to help the Lord by sleeping with a man, just like Sarah did when she encouraged Abraham to sleep with Hagar so He could have a child (Genesis 16:1-3). Years ago, my wife and I were praying for a certain woman who was waiting for the fruit of the womb. After a while, she lost hope and consulted a witch doctor who made some charms for her, and she got pregnant. That was over twenty years ago; up until now, she has not delivered the baby. When you try to help God, you will play into the devil’s hands. King Saul was another person who tried to help God. Shortly after he became king, the Philistines gathered together to fight Israel. It was a difficult situation, and the people began to mount pressure on Saul to act. Instead of waiting for Samuel to present the burnt offering, Saul decided to help God, so he overstepped his bounds into the priestly office and offered the sacrifice. When Samuel asked him why he tried to help God, he came up with excuses that he thought were valid. Those who try to help God always have excuses and reasons to do so, but this doesn’t stop them from bearing the consequences of their disobedience. Saul lost the throne because of this foolish act. Beloved, do not try to help God; just do your part according to His word and leave the rest to Him. If you try to help Him, you will open yourself up to the devil’s manipulations and make grave mistakes. I have noticed from my walk with God that whenever He asks that you wait for Him, it is because there is something glorious on the way. Don’t get deceived by the flashy things the enemy tries to dangle in front of you to distract you or push you to ‘help God’. By trying to help Him, you might end up destroying the very things that you want Him to help you build. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
After reading today’s devotional, you may ask, how do I become a vessel unto honour? The simple answer is that you need the Holy Spirit. In 1 Samuel 16:1,11-13, God told Samuel, “I am sending you to Jesse’s house because I want to raise a king there.” Jesse didn’t present David initially because the entire family believed that David was not the kind of person who could become a king. However, as soon as David came, God said, “That is him.” Samuel poured oil on David’s head, and the Bible says that the Spirit of God came upon him. When the Spirit of God came upon the shepherd boy, he became who God wanted him to be – a king. God has a great plan for your life, but you need the power of the Holy Spirit over your life to fulfil it. In 1 Samuel 10:6, Samuel told Saul that the Spirit of God would come on him and he would prophesy; the Spirit of God turned an ordinary boy into a prophet. In Judges 13:1-25, an angel told a woman that she was going to give birth to a son and that he would be a judge in Israel. After that son was born, the Bible says that the Spirit of God began to move him. When the Spirit of God comes on someone, the fellow becomes who God says he or she will be. In Luke 1:26-38, when the angel told Mary, “You will have a son, and He will be the son of the Highest,” she asked, “How can this be since I know no man?” The angel gave her the ultimate solution to impossible cases: The Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit came upon her, she did the impossible; she conceived God and birthed Him into the world. She became a vessel unto honour because the Holy Spirit came upon her. Are you struggling with sin? Do you find it difficult to spend time in God’s presence? Do you lack the fire and zeal to live a holy life? Do you keep going back to your vomit of addictions? Cry out for the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is symbolised as fire, and when fire visits a place, nothing remains the same. When the Holy Spirit came upon Saul, the persecutor, he was changed into Paul, the apostle. Beloved, the Holy Spirit sanctifies vessels for the Father’s highest purposes, and you need Him to become a chosen vessel unto honour. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
One of my sons was in a church service, and the Lord told him to give an offering of N1,000, which was a lot of money in those days. He said, “Get behind me, satan,” and God replied, “It is not satan, it is Me, and I am not going anywhere.” He kept trying to silence the voice that spoke to him, but the voice persisted. At last, he decided to give N500, just in case it was God. The next week, a woman came to his office and gave him N50,000. He was excited because it was a lot of money. As the woman was leaving, she turned back and said, “Sir, I’m sorry, but I have to confess this. I was actually supposed to give you N100,000, but something came up, and I had to spend N50,000 out of it.” Immediately he heard that, his excitement vanished. He realised that God wanted him to reap a harvest of N100,000, but he only sowed half of the seed that was required. When we sow something little, we will reap something little in return (2 Corinthians 9:6, Luke 6:38). The harvest of a farmer who sows on hectares of land cannot be compared to that of a farmer who sows on a small piece of land in his backyard. Wise farmers reserve their best crops for sowing because they know that the quality of the seed is a major determinant of the quality of the harvest. Only foolish fellows eat the best of their seeds. Whenever God blesses you, He puts the seed for the next season and the bread for the present season in that blessing. Always recognise your seed and sow it. Seeds can be in the form of actions, service, or words. In 2 Kings 4:8-10, the great woman of Shunem sowed the seed of kindness to Elisha, and she reaped a bountiful harvest. Her decision to set aside a space for the man of God to rest whenever he passed by her town was a seed that yielded multiple harvests. First, she reaped a harvest of fruitfulness after a long period of barrenness; then, she reaped a harvest of resurrection when her son suddenly died and was resurrected. Lastly, she reaped a harvest of miraculous restoration after returning to her city following a seven-year famine to find that her land and house had been taken over (2 Kings 4:8-8:1-6). I decree that all your good seeds will yield bountiful harvests, in Jesus’ name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
When I joined RCCG, we never gave offerings; we were told to only pay our tithes. When I asked why, I was told that it was because the congregation was a mixture of sinners and Christians, and we didn’t want the money of sinners. I wondered, “What about those of us who are Christians? The Bible says give, and you shall be given (Luke 6:38).” Little wonder we all remained poor in those days. So, even though we were not giving offerings in church, I was giving offerings to the pastors privately. Also, in those days, when we sang choruses, we never clapped. I asked why, and I was told it was because clapping is worldly. You could never even bring up the topic of beating drums. There was no guitar, no trumpet, or any other musical instrument except the organ. Everything was solemn. However, I said, “The Bible says clap your hands all ye people (Psalm 47:1).” The first time we started clapping our hands in RCCG, the elders called a meeting to discuss it! You can imagine what happened when I introduced drums and the guitar. Sometimes, we allow the traditions of men to dictate how we should live instead of God’s word. God’s word is His perfect blueprint for every area of life, and when you follow His word, you will enjoy life abundantly. Those who fail to live according to God’s word will not experience the exceeding greatness of His power towards those who believe (Ephesians 1:19). Jesus did not respond to the devil’s temptations according to the philosophies and traditions of men. He overcame them because He stood on what was written in God’s word (Matthew 4:1-11). He knew what was written and refused to live by anything less than that. Do you know what is written? Do you know what God has said about your situation? Are you standing on God’s word or man’s report? Whose report will you believe? When the twelve spies went into Canaan to spy on the land, ten of them stood on what they had seen; only Joshua and Caleb stood on God’s word (Numbers 13:26 – Numbers 14:9). Truly, there were giants in the land, but God is greater than giants. It is true that the doctors can see sicknesses, but Jesus has paid the price for your health on the cross. Beloved, make up your mind to live only by God’s word, and you will experience His exceeding power in all areas of your life. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites those who are burdened to come to Him so that they can find rest. However, He said that when they come, they should take up His yoke and learn of Him. It is possible for God to give you rest and bless you so much that you will say, “Lord, this is too much.” However, you must submit completely to Him and learn of Him. Joshua 1:8 says that when the book of the law does not depart from your mouth, you will have good success. Study your Bible diligently so that you can truly learn God’s ways. Once you know His ways and follow Him, you will begin to bear fruits in every area of your life. In Deuteronomy 28:1-2, the Bible says that if you hearken diligently to God’s word and observe to do all He commands, blessings will pursue and overtake you. Become addicted to God’s word such that when you face any situation, the first thing that will come to your mind is, “What does the Bible say about this kind of situation?” God’s word shows us His will concerning every situation, and this should be the basis of our decisions. Jesus said that when you come to learn of Him, you must note that He is meek and lowly. Those who will learn of the Master must also have meek and lowly hearts; they must be teachable. Pride makes people puffed up and become full of unnecessary weights and burdens. To learn God’s ways and enjoy good success, you must be willing to overlook many things and obey His instructions even when they seem foolish. God’s ways are different from the ways of man (Isaiah 55:8-9). When God asked Moses to stretch his rod over the Red Sea as the Egyptian army closed in on the Israelites, it looked like a foolish move, but Moses obeyed because he was a meek man (Exodus 14:16, Numbers 12:3). You cannot be set in your ways and expect God to lead you into good success. In Psalm 32:8, God promises to lead and guide His people, but in the next verse, He warns them not to be like the horse or the mule that must be led with ropes before they can obey. Beloved, God cannot lead you into good success if you are like a horse that is so fast and doesn’t wait for instructions or a mule that is so stubborn that it won’t move until it is beaten. Where you sow will determine what you will reap. In the parable of the sower, four soils were identified, but only one brought forth harvests; the other three soils yielded nothing (Mark 4:3- . I pray for you today; you will not sow on barren soils, in Jesus’ name.A barren soil can be a person, an organisation, or even a house. Some people move into a new house, and everything that was working for them suddenly stops working. Some get into a new relationship or start a new business partnership, and everything they have built over the years crumbles. Jehoshaphat is an example of a fellow who entered into partnerships with people who were barren soils. Even though he was a righteous man, he entered into relationships with ungodly people. First, he became friends with Ahab, a sinful and wicked king, and almost lost his life in battle, but for God’s intervention (1 Kings 22:1-33). Then, as we read in 2 Chronicles 20:35-37, he joined himself with Ahab’s son, Ahaziah, another wicked king, and together, they made ships to go to Tarshish. The ships were destroyed, and the planned voyage failed because Jehoshaphat was partnering with someone who was a barren soil. Who you partner with in life and destiny matters a lot. If you partner with a wicked man, your efforts will be wasted because God is angry with the wicked every day (Psalm 7:11). I pray for you; may you never partner with someone who is marked for destruction by heaven. May your efforts not be destroyed because of the partnerships you make, in Jesus’ name. A disobedient fellow is another dangerous person to partner with. When you partner with such a person, you are sowing on concrete ground because disobedience shuts the heavens over a person. Jonah is an example of such a fellow; he put the people on the ship he boarded to Tarshish in trouble because of his disobedience. Although they didn’t lose their lives, they lost their properties because of one disobedient passenger (Jonah 1:1-5). When you join yourself to a disobedient person, you will suffer losses. In the name above every other name, I pray that you will be disconnected from every disobedient person who will make you suffer for what you know nothing about. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
There is a difference between working under open heavens and working under closed heavens. Matthew 3:16-17 says that when the heavens are opened over you, they will give the rain in due season; you will get a harvest from your work, and as a result, you will begin to lend to nations. When the heavens are closed, according to Deuteronomy 28:23-24, the rain that falls will be like powder, and your efforts will be useless. The way to experience open heavens, as seen in Deuteronomy 28:1-2, is to hearken diligently unto the word of the Lord and to observe and do all that He commands. One of His commands is in Malachi 3:10: Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. When the heavens are opened over a person, everything he or she touches will begin to prosper. When you live a holy life and do the will of God, the heavens will open over you. When Peter allowed Jesus to use his boat and then obeyed His instruction to let down his nets for a catch, his obedience led to an overflowing miracle. However, because Peter had operated under closed heavens for so long, he let down only one net. Even with that, he caught a great multitude of fishes (Luke 5:1-7); imagine what would have happened if he had let down many nets as Jesus instructed. In the name that is above every other name, I pray that you will hear God’s voice concerning your next level and obey His instructions. Prayer is another thing that causes a believer to walk under open heavens. When Jesus went to River Jordan to be baptised by John the Baptist, He did what other people didn’t do when they were being baptised: He prayed. Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, Luke 3:21 While others entered the water and came out under closed heavens, Jesus prayed as He went into the water and came out under an open heaven. Spending time in fervent prayers will give you results that others do not have because the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man has great power and produces wonderful results (James 5:16). Yesterday, I explained that labouring means working so hard and having little or nothing to show for it. Work is easier when there are results. When I go for Mount Zion Hour at the RCCG Headquarters, where I have to lay hands on thousands of people, it is hard work, but I don’t mind because testimonies follow. When a pastor fasts, prays, preaches, and follows up converts with all of his or her strength, yet the church does not grow, it is a terrible experience. I know this because l have experienced it. In the early days of my ministry, God promised that I would lead a mighty end-time army, but l couldn’t see the army. The church congregation would increase by two members in one week and decrease by four the next week. I organised seminars every month, and many people would be in attendance. However, after the seminars, the congregation would remain small. One day, God asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I replied that I wanted a miracle for every member of my congregation. He instructed me to organise a programme where He would be giving out the miracles. We called it the Holy Ghost Service, and that was how God turned things around for me. When God speaks concerning a matter, results that human efforts cannot produce are achieved. For example, when we needed N17,000 to roof the first auditorium in Redemption City, I had only N1,000. At the same time, one of the RCCG pastors was building an accommodation for some members of his congregation, and he needed N1,000 to roof it. He came to me to ask me for the money, and I got upset and said, “I need N17,000, and I have only N1,000, and you want to collect it? Please leave my office.” He got up to leave, but God spoke to me and told me to give him the N1,000. Reluctantly, I called him back and gave him the money. As he went away, God said, “Son, why are you grumbling? There were two problems; I solved one through you, and there’s only one left.” Before the day ended, somebody came from another state in the country and said, “I have just collected rent from my tenants, and God said I should bring everything to you.” The money was exactly N17,000! When you hear God’s voice, obey Him, and leave the rest to Him because your rest from labour and toil lies in your obedience. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
In 1963, while I was a teacher at Ondo Boys’ High School in South-West Nigeria, I was teaching 35 lesson periods every week. Another tutor, who had more experience and qualifications than me, was teaching just 21 lesson periods every week. He was earning four times more than I was earning and was still grumbling about the workload. I went to him and said, “Sir, you are teaching 21 lesson periods while I am teaching 35, yet you are earning four times what I am earning, and you are complaining.” He drew me close, patted me, and said, “My boy, you don’t understand. I’m being paid for what l have already done. I’m being paid for what is in my brain.” While I was labouring and earning peanuts, the other teacher wasn’t working as hard, yet he was earning more. There is a difference between working diligently and labouring. A manual labourer has to work very hard to get little pay. You can’t call a manager a labourer; both of them go to their workplaces in the morning, but one goes to work, and the other goes to labour. Even though a manager arrives at the office very early every day and works hard, he or she gets paid something worthwhile for his or her efforts. In Genesis 2:15, God gave Adam a garden to tend. Some Bible scholars have described the Garden of Eden to be as big as Lagos, Nigeria. To ask one man to keep a garden of that size requires a lot of work. However, Adam was working, not labouring. After he fell into sin, he began to labour (Genesis 3:17-19), such that when he worked, he sweated – it wasn’t recorded that he sweated before this time. Additionally, after labouring and sweating, the ground yielded thorns and thistles. In Luke 5:5, Peter toiled all night and caught nothing – that is labouring. Even though he worked hard all night, he had nothing to show for it. However, Peter’s labouring days ended when Jesus came into his life. If you have been labouring and you want your labouring days to come to an end, rebuild your connection with God, and He will put an end to fruitless labours in your life forever. Beloved, if for whatever reason, you are experiencing fruitless labour even though you have surrendered your life to Christ and are living according to His will, I decree that the Lord will step into your situation today and put an end to labouring in your life, in Jesus’ name. PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH 1. Father, thank You for Your church. Despite all the schemes of the enemy, Your church is still marching on. 2. Father, please let there be a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit on Your church. As You did on the day of Pentecost, pour out Your Spirit on Your church, and let there be a revival, in Jesus’ name. 3. Father, please let there be unity and strong fellowship among all the members of Your church. Let there be love and unity among all genuine Christian denominations, and let Your will be done on the earth through Your church, in Jesus’ name. 4. Father, I pray for all church leaders around the world. Give them wisdom, boldness, and the unction of the Holy Spirit to succeed in their service to You, in Jesus’ name. 5. Father, please strengthen and encourage all the pastors and church leaders around the world. Do not let the devil strike the shepherds and scatter Your flock, in Jesus’ name. 6. Father, I pray for all the Christians in regions around the world where Christians are being persecuted. Please let Your light abide with them and protect them, in Jesus’ name. 7. Father, please shield, encourage, and strengthen all Christian missionaries around the world. Let Your Holy Spirit abide with them, and let all their prayers be answered speedily, in Jesus’ name. 8. Father, I pray for all churches in unconventional places like prisons, military camps, et cetera. Let your presence fill such places, and let there be miracles and a harvest of souls, in Jesus’ name. 9. Father, please let the gospel of Christ spread and dwell in every corner of the world. Cause every negative policy that is hindering the preaching of the gospel and the establishment of churches to be reversed, in Jesus’ name. 10. Father, please supply Your church on the earth with abundant resources so that we can carry out Your mandate of making disciples of nations, in Jesus’ name. 11. Father, please bless my local assembly and help us to fulfil Your vision for us on the earth. Let Your promises concerning us be brought to pass speedily, in Jesus’ name. 12. Your personal prayer points for your local assembly and the body of Christ as a whole. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
I will conclude my discussion on the significance of the events of the day of Pentecost by sharing an encounter I had with God that has greatly impacted my journey in ministry. Just before my birthday some years ago, the Lord asked me what birthday gift I wanted, and I told Him that I wanted a miracle for every member of my congregation. I could have asked for anything that day, and He would have given me, but I asked for the power of the Holy Spirit in action among my congregation. He then told me to hold a programme which we called the Holy Ghost Service, and from that time on, we started to see great miracles that we had never seen before in RCCG. Special miracles started happening through me when l allowed God to use me to create an atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to move mightily in our midst. Every believer is qualified to work miracles (Mark 16:17-18), but the one who will create the atmosphere that will host the Holy Spirit will work special miracles and cause a revival like what happened on the day of Pentecost. On the day of Pentecost, everyone present in the upper room was tremendously blessed, but one fellow stood out – Peter. Peter was singled out for something extraordinary. The Lord had promised him in Luke 5:1-11 that he would catch men and not fish, and the promise came into full manifestation after the upper room experience; he preached just one sermon and won 3,000 souls (Acts 2:14-41). While others performed miracles, he was outstanding as his shadow began to heal the sick (Acts 5:15). This is what happens when you make yourself available to create the kind of atmosphere that can host the Holy Spirit. I know that from reading this series, you have been triggered to spark a revival. I have good news for ministers who will create the kind of atmosphere that will bring about the manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit in their churches or fellowships – their ministries will grow exponentially. I pray that God will move you into a deeper level of His power and begin to perform special miracles through you, in Jesus’ name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Today, as I continue my discussion on the events of the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, I want to examine the implication of the fire that appeared and sat on each of the disciples. In 1 Kings 18:30-39, we see that Elijah’s prayer that caused fire to fall from heaven was majorly filled with praises. In the atmosphere of praise, God answers prayers by fire. When the fire fell, idol worship stopped in the land. The reason the agenda of the devil appears to be thriving in certain places is that the necessary conditions for revival have not been met. Another thing Elijah did before the fire fell in 1 Kings 18:30-39 was to repair the broken altar. When we repair our broken altars of prayer, praise, and worship, God’s fire will fall. We cannot be lukewarm and expect God to send His fire. The disciples tarried in the upper room before God’s fire fell – they were busy praying and setting the stage for His fire (Acts 2:1-2). After Elijah repaired the broken altar, he put the wood in order and prepared the sacrifice (1 Kings 18:33). We cannot be disorderly and expect God’s fire to fall. Elijah also asked the people to pour four barrels of water thrice on the sacrifice. Note that it hadn’t rained for three and a half years; therefore, pouring such an amount of water was a huge sacrifice on its own. The people poured a scarce commodity in preparation for rain. No wonder God was in a hurry to send down His fire. Wherever God sees unusual sacrifice, He sends His fire. In 2 Chronicles 5, after completing the temple, Solomon gathered all the Levites, priests, and Israelites, and they sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told or numbered for multitude. After this great sacrifice, God’s presence filled the temple such that the priests could not stand to minister. Then, as soon as Solomon finished praying, fire fell from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and sacrifices (2 Chronicles 7:1). God’s fire of preservation, increase, and unusual miracles falls in atmospheres of prayer and sacrificial giving. Beloved, do you desire God’s fire? Don’t hold back in giving Him your heart, time, and resources. Give sacrificially and pray consistently; you will be visited by the fire of God’s power, provision, and glory. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |

As I continue to discuss the significance of the events of the day of Pentecost, I want you to consider that on that day, there was a sound of a mighty rushing wind (Acts 2:1-2). In Exodus 14:21-28, when the wind blew, a way appeared where there was none before. When a revival like the day of Pentecost happens, every force that is hindering the church will be blown away by the wind, and ways will appear where there were none before. Some years ago, I was invited to preach in an orthodox church, and I preached about the three basic steps of Christianity: salvation, sanctification, and baptism in the Holy Spirit. When I finished speaking about the Holy Spirit, I was expecting some opposition, but an Archdeacon came to me and said, “Sir, thank you for explaining to us that the Holy Spirit is like wind. If the wind wants to blow past somewhere and someone is blocking the way, what will happen?” I said, “The little I know is that the person will be uprooted.” Whatever has been standing against your progress and God’s plans for your life will be uprooted once the Holy Ghost comes. I pray that any power of darkness that might be keeping you from fulfilling God’s will and enjoying His blessings will be uprooted by the wind of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Another thing that happens when the wind blows is that there is divine provision. When God was going to give His people meat, He sent forth a wind that brought quails from the sea, and they fell in abundance around the camp such that the people gathered them until the next day (Numbers 11:31-32). There is always more than enough where the wind of the Spirit blows. Lastly, Job said that the Spirit of God made him, and the breath of the Almighty gave him life (Job 33:4). God’s wind gives life, and where there is life, death cannot stay. When God breathed into man in Genesis 2:1, man became a living soul; he was transformed from mere dust into a walking, talking being. You will experience transformation when the wind of God’s Spirit blows as it did over the formlessness of the earth and transformed it into a beautiful place (Genesis 1:1-3). I decree that you will receive a fresh visitation of the wind of God this season, in Jesus’ name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
In continuation of my discussion about the significance of the events of the day of Pentecost, I want to point out that those who listened to the disciples after they had been filled with the Holy Ghost said, “We hear them praising the good works of God in our various languages” (Acts 2:1-12). This means that there must be constant thanksgiving and praise to God if we want to experience a mighty move of the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ today. When we meet to pray concerning our needs, God will show up. However, when we meet just to thank Him and acknowledge His greatness, He will manifest in a powerful way, and there will be a revival; miracles will become commonplace in our midst, and there will be many testimonies. Years ago, I promised to visit one of the RCCG elders and told him I would spend just five minutes with him. Before I arrived, he had beautiful hymns and praise songs playing because he had observed that I am always humming songs of praise to God. I didn’t know when I spent one hour with him because I was enjoying the music. If you are God’s child and He always hears praises around you, He will definitely stay with you. God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3); He comes wherever He is exalted and extolled. People who complain and murmur cannot host God’s presence. When the Israelites murmured, it displeased God, and at some point, His fire fell among them. Unlike the tongues of fire on the day of Pentecost, this fire burnt and consumed them (Numbers 11:1). When Paul and Silas were imprisoned, instead of complaining, they started praising God. God came into the prison and caused a great earthquake such that the foundations were shaken (Acts 16:25-26). When you praise God amidst difficulties, He brings solutions that men cannot deny, giving you blessings that extend to those around you. When the prison was shaken, all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bands were loosed. Beloved, surrender your life to Jesus Christ if you haven’t done so and choose to live a life of praise. The Holy Spirit will dwell in you and manifest mightily around you. He will liberate you if you are in any form of bondage and bless you so much that the blessings will be evident in your life and in the lives of everyone connected to you. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Over the past two days, I have been discussing the significance of the events that happened on the day of Pentecost. On that day, everyone in that upper room received a touch from God. Their hearts were tuned to God, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. If we truly want a revival in our generation, we cannot watch weak believers remain in their weak states. We must sharpen each other (Proverbs 27:17) such that the ‘weakest’ among us will be working miracles. If we’re really united, we won’t look away when we see a brother dozing when he should be praying; we will hold his hand to encourage him to pray. We will not see a sister dressing indecently and showing signs of backsliding without trying to encourage her faith. If someone’s fire seems to be dying, pray for the fellow rather than use him or her as a bad example to others to make yourself look righteous. Everyone in the upper room on that particular day received a touch from God because they submitted to Him and to one another – nobody felt superior. In the 70s, I knew a young man called Bro Sam. He wasn’t a member of RCCG, but he was very popular because he was heavily anointed by God. He couldn’t speak English, but he was so anointed and was well sought after. On one occasion, he was invited to preach at a college. When he got up to say that he didn’t speak English and would need an interpreter, Queen’s English began to flow from his lips. He didn’t know what he was saying, but the message kept flowing. After about one hour, people began to rush forward, weeping and crying for salvation. As soon as he left the college, he couldn’t speak English again. There were testimonies of at least three dead people that God resurrected through him. Whenever he prayed for the sick, he would describe how their sicknesses were moving out of their bodies until they were completely healed. However, pride entered his heart after a while, and whenever he was called to go for Bible study, he would say, “Who is preaching? How many dead people has he raised?” Sadly, he ended up in an asylum. Beloved, if we want God’s power to rest among us, we must shun pride and submit to one another in the fear of God (Ephesians 5:21). We must also look out for the feeble among us and lift them up. I started discussing yesterday about the impact of the day of Pentecost and how Christians must be focused and separated from the world for us to experience such a revival again. Another thing I must point out is that on the day of Pentecost, the disciples were in one accord. If we want to see the power of the Holy Spirit in action, there must be love and unity in the Body of Christ, irrespective of denominations. Psalm 133:1-3 says that God commands a blessing when people are united. It didn’t say that God gives a blessing; it says that He commands a blessing. In other words, He says, “Blessing, you must manifest.” When there is genuine love and unity among the members of a church or fellowship, there is absolutely no doubt that every member of that fellowship will be blessed. God’s power will not manifest in a divided church or family. Unity attracts God’s presence, just as sugar attracts ants. Likewise, if a church is full of strife, jealousy, and all sorts of carnal works, God’s power will be far from that church. Paul had to rebuke the Corinthian church for having factions. While some said that they were for Paul, some claimed that they were for Apollos (1 Corinthians 3:4). Paul called them carnal for their disunity. The Body of Christ is one, and if we want to experience God’s power and presence like on the day of Pentecost, we must lay aside our petty differences and focus on the One whose name we bear – Jesus Christ. We cannot attack one another and expect God to dwell among us. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. Galatians 5:15 In the Scripture above, we see that when we live in disunity, we will consume one another. Many believers have injured other members of the Body of Christ with their words and actions. We must stop this and live in love and unity so that God’s presence and power can truly be manifested among us. Loving one another and being united is a sure way of showing the world that we are truly Jesus’ disciples (John 13:35). We should not let unbelievers reject the gospel because they do not see love among us as Christians. The body of Christ must unite. Gossiping, backbiting, and unhealthy competition among denominations must stop if we want to experience a true revival by the Holy Spirit. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
The first time the Holy Ghost came to dwell in man was on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-12. Jesus had told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Ghost (Luke 24:49). The day of Pentecost and the events that followed defined Christianity forever. If only there could be a repeat of that day in churches all over the world; oh, what a revival that will be. There was a similar experience in Azusa, USA, in 1906, and up until today, people are still talking about that revival. For the next few days, I will be examining what happened on the day of Pentecost and the implications of the events of that day. One major thing you must note is that the disciples were in an upper room – they were separated from the rest of the world. While everyone around them was enjoying the Passover feast, they were in a different realm, praying, fasting, and yearning to go deeper in the Lord. If we are to experience a repeat of that day, Christians must learn to live separately from the world (2 Corinthians 6:14). You cannot be engrossed in the pursuit of material things like the rest of the world and expect the Holy Spirit to descend on you and manifest through you as He did on the day of Pentecost. You cannot expect to carry the power of the Holy Ghost when your eyes are focused on worldly things. What you behold is what you will eventually become (2 Corinthians 3:18). You cannot love the world and claim to also love God (1 John 2:15). You cannot keep listening to worldly music and expect to be filled with the Holy Spirit. What you listen to greatly impacts your life, and faith comes by hearing God’s word (Romans 10:17). In the upper room, the disciples were not distracted by mundane things. Their eyes, representing their focus, were single, causing them to be filled with light (Matthew 6:22). Their desire was to wait for the promise of the Father, and they did this wholeheartedly. To receive and manifest the Holy Spirit’s power, you must seek God wholeheartedly. Only those who seek God with all their hearts and souls find Him (Deuteronomy 4:29). Only those who separate themselves from sin and distractions will receive the Holy Spirit’s power, like on the day of Pentecost. Beloved, God wants you to be separate because you are His (2 Corinthians 6:17) and not of this world (John 15:19). Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
2 Timothy 2:20 tells us that there are vessels unto honour and unto dishonour in a great man’s house. God will always find something to use people for; He will use His children as vessels unto honour, while those who refuse to live a holy life will be used as vessels unto dishonour. One day, while driving to church to minister to some sick people, I got stuck in a terrible traffic jam. After a while, I noticed a side of the road that was free of traffic, and I moved my car there. Unknown to me, there was a rule that vehicles could only drive on that side of the road after 10am, and that was why it was free. Some policemen stopped my car and said, “Don’t you know that you can only pass here from 10am?” I told them I didn’t know and that I was sorry. I explained that l am a pastor, and I was hurrying to go and pray for the sick. They said, “Well, you know what to do.” I knew they were expecting a bribe, but as a child of God, I couldn’t do it. Therefore, they said, “You will wait here until 10am before we let you go.” As I waited, some street boys who were some distance away recognised me, and one of them said, “That is Daddy Adeboye. It seems the policemen are harassing him; let’s go and help him.” When the policemen saw them approaching, they left me and hurried away. In that situation, God used the street boys to threaten the policemen into letting me go. When God wanted to free His people from Babylon, He used Cyrus, an unbelieving ruler. Long before his birth, Isaiah had prophesied about him and the part he would play in the freedom of God’s people (Isaiah 44:28, Isaiah 45:1-5). God can use unbelievers to do His will; however, such unbelievers will still end up in hell if they do not surrender to Christ, as all sinners will end up in hell. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18 Beloved, surrender your life to Christ if you are not yet born again and begin to live a holy life so that God can use you as a vessel unto honour and not unto dishonour. Typically, children tend to respect and even fear their fathers more than their mothers because men are generally considered stronger and sterner. A mother may not be as physically strong as a father, but she has immense strength in other areas. I usually say that I am where I am today because of God’s grace and my mother’s prayers. Whenever I did something that impressed her, she would say, “You will call one fellow, and 100 will answer.” What she meant was, ‘You will be very influential.’ Today, God has blessed me with great influence over many people across the world. When a mother is happy with a child, whatever she deeply desires and prays over the child will come to pass. Beloved, Ephesians 6:2-3 instructs you to honour your father and mother (not just your father alone) so that you can enjoy tremendous blessings. These days, many children don’t even pick up their parents’ calls. If you have parents, you must be intentional about honouring them because it is a prerequisite for God’s blessings and long life. When I was younger, my mother would instruct me to stay back at home to study while other children in the neighbourhood were out playing. Thank God I obeyed her. Studying my books helped me to ignore many distractions and achieve great things in life. In appreciation, I took good care of her before she passed away. I made sure that I saw her at least once every two weeks so that she wouldn’t miss me so much. If your mother is still alive, or if you have mother figures in your life, ensure that you always honour them by being obedient and caring towards them. If you are a mother, your role in deciding your children’s future is very important. You must ensure that they are disciplined and focused on fulfilling God’s will for their lives. Don’t pamper them; train them diligently. Don’t prioritise making money or partying over spending quality time with them. Also, be willing to make sacrifices to help them grow up in wisdom, strength, and the way of the Lord. I pray that God will bless all mothers with the strength and courage to nurture their children the right way. If you’re married and are seeking God’s face for the fruit of the womb, I decree that by this time next year, you will be carrying your baby, in Jesus’ name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Many believers fail to share the gospel because of fear. The key to overcoming this, however, is to ask God for boldness and wisdom for each unique occasion. I recall a time I flew first class because someone gifted me the ticket. I sat next to a man who I could tell was very rich from his appearance. I really wanted to tell him about Jesus, but I was afraid he wouldn’t listen because he would think that he was above such things. Therefore, I decided to go about it with wisdom. I said, “Sir, I’d love to introduce you to my Daddy.” He asked, “Who is your Daddy?” “My Daddy is a great chief. He’s into oil and gas, and He does some silver, gold, and diamonds. He also has a big farm with thousands of cattle,” I replied. Then he asked, “How come I don’t know him? What’s your father’s name?” I knew that if I said Jesus at that stage, I might lose Him, so I said, “My Father’s name is Chief Emmanuel.” That got his attention, and I was able to share the gospel with him. When God called young Jeremiah to preach to the rebellious children of Israel, He instructed him not to be afraid of their faces. The same God is with you when you go out to tell others about Jesus’ love. He has given you His Spirit to teach you what to say, just as He taught me on that flight. No matter how tough-faced or uninterested people may look, don’t look at their faces; focus on the One who sent you and deliver His message to them. An adage in Yorubaland says that you shouldn’t fear the one you are delivering a message to but the one who sent you to deliver the message. Don’t allow the fear of men prevent you from preaching the gospel. Keep your eyes on God, do as He has commanded all believers (Matthew 28:18-19), and leave the conviction and conversion to Him. Once God is with you, nothing else matters. He’ll teach you what to say and how to say it. Preaching the gospel is not about how excellently you can speak and quote the Scriptures but the demonstration of the Spirit and of power (1 Corinthians 2:4). Beloved, surrender your life to Jesus today if you haven’t; He is the only way to salvation. If you have surrendered your life to Him, ensure you share the gospel with others; don’t be afraid of their faces. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
God wasn’t enthroned; therefore, nobody can dethrone Him. The devil once tried, but he was kicked out of heaven (Revelation 12:9). God is King, and He is King forever. When I say that God is king, I mean that He is King over all earthly kings. No matter how powerful a king is and no matter how much he has achieved, God is greater than him. In Daniel 4:1-31, Nebuchadnezzar thought that he could take the glory that belonged to God. God made him eat grass for seven years, and when he came back to his senses, he said, “God is the Almighty.” If you are a king in your own right, whether in your organisation, family, state, or wherever, your reign is only temporary. You should submit to the One who is King forever if you want to have a good and memorable reign. David submitted to God, and up until today, Israel still recognises him as their greatest king ever. Many years ago, I was invited to dedicate the RCCG national headquarters in a particular country, and I gave the church leaders a date in my calendar. In that country, government permits are required before hosting dedication ceremonies, so the church applied for a permit. However, a man in the government was determined to stop the dedication. He said, “I have heard about this church. You plan to convert everyone and build churches everywhere; that will not work here.” The church leaders called me to report the situation, and to be honest, I didn’t even pray about it. The day the man was to attend a meeting to conclude that the dedication wouldn’t be allowed to take place, he accidentally put both of his legs into the same trouser hole as he was dressing up. He struggled to free his legs until he fell and was rushed to the hospital. He eventually died with both of his legs still in the same trouser hole. Nobody possesses greater power than God; when He decides to do something, it is better to cooperate with Him because He cannot be stopped. Jesus is King forever, and all power belongs to Him. All souls are His (Ezekiel 18:4), including yours, and He wants you to surrender what belongs to Him. You belong to the King, and it is a blessed thing to belong to Him because you will automatically have access to all that He has. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
From my little walk with God in the last 51 years that I have been born again, I have observed that God specialises in bringing something out of nothing. When it seems like there’s no way to solve a problem, He makes a way where there is no way, like He did for the Israelites in Exodus 14:21-22. In Exodus 16:11-17, when the children of Israel were on their way to the Promised Land, God rained down readymade food from heaven. Because they had never seen or tasted anything like it before, they called it ‘manna’. In Numbers 11:1-32, when they were tired of eating only manna and wanted to eat meat, Moses cried to God on their behalf, and God told him there would be meat the next day. As great as Moses’ faith was, he found it hard to believe there could be enough meat for all the Israelites within one day. By the next day, God had provided heaps of quails for them. One day, there was no meat, and the next day, there was an abundance. That is my God; He specialises in bringing something out of nothing. This is why you must never underestimate Him. In 2 Kings 7:1-16, a city was experiencing a severe famine, and God spoke through His prophet that within 24 hours, there would be so much food that nobody would want to buy. There was a top government official who said it was impossible; he saw it come to pass, but he died before he could partake of the miracle. It doesn’t matter how hopeless a situation is; just bring God into the equation, and He will bring something out of nothing. A woman once asked me to pray for her child, who was dumb and had never spoken since birth. I laid my hand on the child and said, “In the name of Jesus,” and the child said, “Amen!” I had not even prayed yet, and God caused the child who had never spoken before to speak. He put a voice where there was none; I was so amazed, I almost jumped out of the window. I pray for you today; in those areas where the enemy has caused emptiness, barrenness, and stagnation, the Great I Am will cause something good and beautiful to come out of them. God specialises in creating magnificent things out of dark and empty places like He did in Genesis 1:1-3. Every nothingness in your life will turn into something bright and beautiful today, in Jesus’ name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
In Psalm 24:7-10, God is described as the King of glory, the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle, and the Lord of hosts. In Psalm 107:20, the Bible says that He sent His word to deliver the Israelites from their troubles. It doesn’t matter how big the opposition you are facing is, the One who is mighty in battle will give you a great victory. Jesus said in John 14:6 that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. In John 8:32, He said that you shall know the truth, and it shall make you free. If you are facing an enemy that appears to be greater than you, my advice is that you surrender your life completely to Jesus now. Once He makes you free, you are free indeed, and no one can oppress you again. In Luke 11:21-22, He said that the only way anyone can steal the goods of a strong man is if he or she is stronger. Since there is no one stronger than God, once you are surrendered to Him and have become His child, no one can take you from Him. This is why Jesus said in John 10:29: My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. In 2 Chronicles 20:1-30, when Jehoshaphat was attacked on every side by the Ammonites, the Moabites, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir, he called on the One who is mighty in battle. The instruction he received was, “Just praise me,” and he obeyed. He and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judah fell before the Mighty Man in battle in worship. Nobody escaped after the Mighty Man in battle set Jehoshaphat’s enemies against one another. All Jehoshaphat and his men had to do was gather abundant spoils because the Lord made them rejoice over their enemies. I decree today that any gang or group that comes to attack you will help to utterly destroy one another; the Mighty One in battle will set your enemies against themselves, in Jesus’ name. In the name above every other name, none of your enemies will escape the sword of the Mighty One in battle. Beloved, surrender totally to Jesus today if you are yet to do so. He is the Almighty, and He never loses a war. When you surrender, you give Him room to fight your battles for you, just as He fought Jehoshaphat’s and gave him victory. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
God is the Great Physician. In Exodus 15:26, He said, “…I am the Lord that healeth thee.” The Bible says that He sent His word and healed them (Psalm 107:20). He is the God of all flesh, and nothing is too hard for Him (Jeremiah 32:27). Some diseases are termed incurable, but for God, no disease is incurable. Even if a damaged body part is deemed irreparable, He can replace it. While earthly physicians refer cases to each other when they cannot handle them, the Great Physician never refers a case – He is a specialist in all fields of medicine. Years ago, a wealthy chief, who became paralysed from the waist downwards, was taken to the best hospital in London. After trying their best and he didn’t get better, the doctors gave up. To prove the hopelessness of his case, the head surgeon drove a long pin through the chief’s thigh, and when the latter felt no pain, he told him, “Go home, stop wasting your money, you will never walk again.” The chief was taken back home, and a young girl, who is a member of RCCG, witnessed to him and said, “If you can get to my G.O., you will walk again.” The chief was brought to Redemption City, and because he had a big stature, six hefty men had to carry him into my living room. I told him my God can change the doctors’ report and that if he surrendered his life to Jesus, things would change. He surrendered his life to Jesus, we prayed, and he walked back to his car! What renowned medical specialists termed impossible took God only a few seconds to do! I have seen God turn hopeless cases into great testimonies. I have seen Him step into sorrowful rooms as a result of the death of loved ones and turn them into places of joy and laughter. I have seen Him do the impossible, and your case will not be different; just believe in Him because all things are possible to him that believes (Mark 9:23). He turned around the 12-year-old case of the woman with the issue of blood in a second (Luke 8:44). Lazarus’ four-day-old dead body didn’t take him hours to resurrect (John 11:43-44). The man at the pool of Bethesda with the 38-year-old infirmity received instant healing (John 5:1-9). If you have any sicknesses or diseases in your body, I pray that the Great Physician will step in and turn things around immediately, in Jesus’ name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
As I conclude my discussion on constants and variables, I will attempt to describe them as a mathematician. In mathematics, constants are numbers or quantities that remain at a fixed value throughout a given discussion, while variables are unstable and are dependent on other factors. God is the only consistent constant throughout eternity, and with Him, there is no variableness or shadow of turning (James 1:17). Having discussed His word as one of His constant qualities yesterday, I will identify and explore three more absolute constants about Him, and these are: His principles, His love, and His mercy. God’s principles are His ways of doing things, and they are constant. They are His standards, and they can never change. One of God’s principles for marriage is that it is honourable unto all, and the bed should be undefiled before marriage (Hebrews 13:4). If He says that people should get married before they have sex, that principle remains, it will not change because the world has changed or because government laws have changed to accommodate immorality. God’s principles remain firm and constant, now and always. Another principle of marriage is that it is between a man and a woman, and from the first couple and throughout the Bible, we see God maintain this standard. God’s principle is that a man should leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife (Genesis 2:24). Likewise, God’s principle of sowing and reaping remains constant. Anyone who applies this principle will reap its harvest. God has principles for every aspect of life, and anyone who wants to enjoy His full blessings must learn to live by His principles. His foundation is sure, but you must depart from iniquity to partake of His blessings (2 Timothy 2:19). God’s mercy and steadfast love are constant. For example, because of His constant love and mercy towards man, He does not want anyone to perish (1 Timothy 2:4). God’s love for you is constant (1 Corinthians 13: . His steadfast love never ceases, and His mercies never come to an end – they are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). If you experienced an overload of mercy yesterday, expect a fresh dose today because God gives new mercies every morning – He daily loads His beloved with benefits (Psalm 68:19).Beloved, God is an absolute constant and you can totally rely on Him. Trust Him with all your heart, and He will be an anchor for your soul in the midst of life’s uncertainties (Hebrews 6:19). Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
In a world of constantly changing laws and policies, God can be trusted to remain an absolute constant, as l discussed yesterday. His words, principles, and actions are consistent, and they can never change. When politicians campaign for political offices, they make numerous promises, some of which they often fail to fulfil. God is never like that; His promises are constant, and His deeds can be absolutely trusted. Many things are constant about God; I will discuss one today – His word – and three more tomorrow. God’s word existed before the world began, and it will remain long after the earth passes away (John 1:1). If He makes you a promise and you play your part as He requires, no matter how long it takes, He will surely fulfil it. One day, I was praying, and God said, “Son, presidents will come to the camp to worship.” At that time, it seemed impossible, but Daddy said it, and as far as I was concerned, it was settled already. Therefore, with faith, we built a presidential lodge immediately, and it was the biggest building in the camp (now Redemption City) back then. Three years passed, and when no president came, some senior pastors said to me, “Daddy, you are our president. Why don’t you move into the presidential lodge?” They didn’t fully understand why we built the presidential lodge, and they felt that I wanted to live in a big house but didn’t know how to tell them. I told them, “No! That’s not my house. It’s for presidents; they will come.” Of course, presidents have come and are still coming. No matter how long it takes, God’s word and promises will come to pass. According to Isaiah 55:11, the potency of God’s word is constant; no word that comes out of His mouth will return to Him void. This means that you can claim whatever you see in the Scriptures, and you will receive it if you believe. For example, Deuteronomy 28:13 says that you shall be the head and not the tail. If you believe this, then you will indeed be the head. 1 Peter 2:24 says that you have been healed by His stripes. If you believe this, then sickness has no place in your body. Situations may vary, but God’s word is constant. No matter how bad a situation appears to be, God can turn it around for good because His word is living and powerful, and that will never change. We live in a world of constants and variables. For example, the heights and weights of humans are variables as they differ between individuals. Wealth is also a variable because some people are rich while some are poor. Even among the rich, wealth remains a variable because a fellow can have riches today, and it could all be gone tomorrow (Proverbs 23:5). In contrast, constants represent things that never change. For instance, men do not get pregnant and give birth. In life also, we have variable constants; these are things that are supposed to be constant but can be subject to changes. For example, adults are supposed to have 32 teeth, but if you check, you may find that some adults have less than 32 teeth. Ecclesiastes 12:3 says that the grinders become few with age, which is the Bible’s wonderful way of saying that you may lose some of your teeth as you grow older. Furthermore, we have absolute constants. For example, a day following a night is a constant. It has been happening since the world began, and it will continue to happen until God says otherwise. Psalm 30:5 says that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. It is certain that a day will follow a night; therefore, before sunrise tomorrow, all your sorrows will be gone, in Jesus’ name. Our God is an absolute constant. In Malachi 3:6, He said, “…I am the Lord, I change not…” He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13: . Who He was is who He is – He never changes. That is why He introduced Himself to Moses as I AM, not ‘I WAS,’ nor ‘I WILL BE’. If He gave someone a miracle yesterday, you can rest assured that He can give you the same today. The God who healed the sick and made the lame walk is still the same. Do you have a case that looks impossible? Our God is Almighty, and there is nothing impossible with Him (Luke 1:37). Pray and search through the Scriptures for God’s word to you concerning the situation, for the things that were written in the Bible were written for your learning, that you might have hope through patience and the comfort of the Scriptures (Romans 15:4).Beloved, God never changes; His word is constant (Isaiah 40: . Let your heart be filled with hope because His word never fails. Hold on to His word, and very soon, your hope will be turned into testimonies. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
