@topic 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV): "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." Proverbs 28:6 (NIV): "Better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse." Proverbs 19:22 (NIV): "...better to be poor than a liar." Proverbs 15:16 (GNT): "Better to be poor and fear the Lord than to be rich and in trouble." Ecclesiastes 4:13 (NIV): "Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king..." |
kor4e:I would ask Him when am I going to get married and who am I to marry. |
My ATM card is expiring next month so I went to the bank today to get a new one at a GTB branch on campus (UNIBEN). The last time I replaced my expiring ATM card was 4 years ago. I had to queue and wait a long time before I was attended to. So I was expecting that I would have to queue and wait for a long time again before I was attended to. My first delight at the GTB branch was that there was practically no queue. When I then approached the GTB staff at the Customer Inquiry Desk, I told her that I want a new ATM card. She replied and said there is a machine that will do that outside where the ATMs are. So I went there and saw the machine after being directed by the security staff on ground. I tapped on the screen of the machine to awaken it and it asked for my account number. Initially it kept saying "unable to identify customer", but the security guard reassured me to keep trying that it is a network issue. So I tried again and it worked. All it required again was my thumb print on the thumb print scanner. I linked my other account to the card and that was it. It dispensed my new ATM card just like that. No queue, no waiting to be attended to by a staff member. I never knew ATM cards could be dispensed like that by self-service. I am really impressed with GTB's advancement and the use of technology to make things easier for their customers. Well done GTB. P.S. Is it only GTB that now uses a self-service ATM card dispensing machine, or is it other banks too? I don't know. I rarely go to banks nowadays because POS has taken over. |
ProphEkene:Prayers has worked for me countless times without number. Like when I prayed for admission and I got it; I prayed for water supply and I got it; I prayed for a successful inter-state journey and I got it; I prayed for healing and I got it. I can go on and on about the countless times God has answered my prayers. However, there have also been times when I prayed for something and I didn't get it. Experience has taught me that the will of God is very important in getting answers to prayers. I have learnt that the prayers I pray that are not in line with the will of God don't get answered. No matter how big your faith is, if what you are praying for is not the will of God, it won't get answered. Also, God's timing is part of it. If what you are praying for is not God's time yet, it won't be answered until the appointed time set by God. Bottom line is that prayer works for the children of God but it has to be according to His will and His timing. SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: [[1 John 5:14-15 KJV]] 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. [[Isaiah 49:8 KJV]] Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; |

maxinvile:I recommend you see Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church (a.k.a. Winners). He is a real man of God. The only snag is that he is very busy so getting an appointment with him may be very difficult. That's why he usually refers people to read his books on the particular area of concern. e.g. If you have financial challenges, there are books authored by Bishop David Oyedepo that address financial challenges. His books give light, and that light is what you need to bring you out of any darkness. Knowledge is light! |
shox:The comparison is not in terms of infrastructure. It is in terms of Lagos and New York being business hubs; and Abuja and Washington DC being political hubs. |
SpencerForbes:Hmmm. You have a point. But they (Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom) are more like cultural hubs rather than entertainment hubs. |
If Lagos is like the New York of America; and Abuja like the Washington DC of America; what state of Nigeria would be like the California of America? State your answer and give reasons. For me, I would say it is Rivers State. Of the most popular places to live in Nigeria, Port Harcourt follows Lagos and Abuja. So I would say Rivers State is the California of Nigeria. |

God resurrected 2 things that were more or less dead in my life: 1. My M.Sc. program (after dropping out for three years); and 2. My career (after over ten years of joblessness.) |
SpencerForbes:I have previously also pondered on this question before. Even though he was created as a full grown man, I think his age started counting from the day of his creation. So his age at death (930) would not have included the usual length of time it should have taken to grow to that full grown age his life started at. |
The biggest lesson I learnt in 2025 is that no matter how big your faith is, it is subject to the will of God: [[1 John 5:14 KJV]] And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: |
[[Ephesians 5:19 KJV]] Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; |
As soon as they learn to speak. |
The birth of Jesus to me is the incarnation of divinity in mortal flesh. It's like the concept of the avatar in Hinduism where we have deity in humanity. The bible in John 1:14 says that the Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us. (Talk about the gods amongst us.) This is epitomised in the way Jesus was conceived: by a virgin who was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit: [[Luke 1:35 KJV]] And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. |
As a young boy, Christmas was always a time to look forward to. We would usually spend the Christmas visiting my cousins. And we have all sorts of fun together: like playing computer games, going to the beach, watching DStv, etc. It was always a memorable time. Thank God for the good old days, but God says the days ahead are better than the good old days. |
May God have mercy upon us all. The Pharisees thought they were heaven bound, but Jesus told them otherwise: [[Matthew 23:15 KJV]] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. [[Matthew 23:33 KJV]] Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? You can read the entire chapter 23 of the book of Matthew for full context of how their "holiness" was all counted as hypocrisy. The chapter (Matthew 23) teaches us that even holiness is not a guarantee of going to heaven. We don't want to be like the "holy" and "righteous" Pharisee in the bible passage below: [[Luke 18:9-14 KJV]] 9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. |
@OP Are you sure? How do you explain the following passages of scripture: [[Matthew 19:29 KJV]] And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. [[Mark 10:29-30 KJV]] 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. |
ChybuzzDD:It's not that type. It is the portable Sun King package that comes with 4+1 light bulbs, a charging unit, and a solar panel. |
AngelSlay:It cost a little above ₦200k. There is even a cheaper one by Sun King that goes for a little above ₦100k. |
Hezzyluv:It can power TV but the TV is sold separately. No, the one I bought is from Sun King. It comes with 4 light bulbs, a charging unit, and a solar panel. It can't power a refrigerator. |

Buying and installing solar power in my apartment. No more using rechargeable lanterns and candles. I am now able to read my bible in the morning and in the evening when it is dark outside. My phone is constantly charged and I don't have to waste money buying petrol for the generator. It's like living abroad where there is constant supply of electricity. I am grateful to God who provided the money to purchase the solar unit. |
Today's Scripture A faithful person will be richly blessed. Proverbs 28:20, NIV In the Ordinary Days Sometimes we’re frustrated because we know we have more in us but we’re not seeing it happen. David was anointed to be the king, then God sent him back to the shepherds’ fields to care for sheep. Your anointing will supersede where you are right now. But David didn’t slack off or have a sour attitude in the mundane when no one was watching him. Thirteen years later, after being faithful in the shepherds’ fields and going through all kinds of unfair situations with King Saul, David suddenly took the throne. Passing the test in the ordinary days is what leads to exceptional days. As with David, you may know you have more in you. You can feel the seeds of greatness, but you’re doing something menial, something below your training. Are you being excellent where God has you now? Be faithful in the routine. Be faithful when nothing exciting is happening or changing. If you are being your best where God has you now, serving and giving with a good attitude, God will take you from the background to the foreground. A Prayer for Today “Father, thank You for calling me to be faithful in the routine, knowing that You are preparing me for the new things You have in store. Thank You that You will take me from the ordinary to the exceptional. I’m going to keep being my best, serving and loving right where I am. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.” By Pastor Joel Osteen. |

Omooba77:Yes. He has. I was jobless for many years and it seemed like my career was dead and buried. But God gave me a job and resurrected my career like the dry bones in Ezekiel chapter 37. Praise the Lord. Also, in like manner, God resurrected my Masters degree programme that I had dropped out of for three years. I was able to resit for an outstanding course and complete my dissertation all with the help of God. Infact, I scored the highest in the course I resat for all because God provided someone to take us for tutorials on an integral part of the course that came out in the exams. I give glory and thanks to God. |
Hope appointed as Renewed Hope ambassador. His name is Hope so who else can represent Renewed Hope except for someone named Hope. It is the perfect match. It is also a good example why you should give your children good names. A good name will work for you. Ask Goodluck Jonathan. ![]() |
essentialone:1. Sacrificing my breakfast for life: I completely stopped eating anything before 12noon as a special sacrifice to God. It lasted for some time (maybe even years). But eventually I had to resume eating breakfast again. I couldn't cope. It's like I regained my senses back. Initially, I limited the breakfast sacrifice to only on Sundays. But after sometime, even Sundays was taken off the breakfast sacrifice schedule. Now I eat breakfast freely everyday having learned my lesson that when the pastor asks for you to give a special sacrifice, it's not your breakfast for life he is talking about. 2. Giving away my first alawi during NYSC service year: I gave away my entire first salary at the NYSC orientation camp. They call it capitation back then in NCCF (Nigerian Christian Corpers' Fellowship). I eventually ran low on funds and had to contact my mother at home to send money urgently because I didn't even have enough to travel back home. Fortunately, my mother sent money to me by Western Union back then. Now, looking back I can't say whether sacrificing my entire first salary was a wise move or not. God knows. But I don't think I have learnt my lesson about giving away my entire first salary away as first fruits because I still do it when I get a new job. |
