amastar:[b]Its not a question of whether its too old or not. it comes down to the condition of the machine itself. Make sure the engine performs well and MOST IMPORTANTLY is the transmission and undercarriage (the chains). The "Older is better" syndrome is not necessarily true. However, most mechanics in Naija are very familiar with them and don't need any specialized tool or computerized equipment to diagnose the problem. This will help you in case you break down in a remote village. Most of our people are afraid of the new technology hence they advise you to buy what they are familiar with. I think you can still be ok with any D8 machine up to like 1985 without any issue. The engines and concept (though slightly updated) are very familiar. You don't have to stick to only 1969. Just expand your search to up to 1985 and buy the best machine you can afford. What i mean by that is that if you have like $30k to spend, you find a 1980 in excellent condition and another 1984 in ok condition. i will say you buy the 1980. Don't be hung up with the year. Just be concerned about a good machine. Get it inspected by a certified CAT technician before you buy it. Good luck in your find. [/b] |

Sunnyjean:Let me first of all say that "different strokes for different folks" I can't say what you must like. With that said, personally, i am not sure i will be losing sleep if i don't buy a Chrysler/Dodge Caravan. Especially one of 170k miles with an accident record. Mind you, the accident happened in 2006 and was reported to be moderate. The owner seem to keep the car after the accident. It shouldn't be nothing to worry about. My concern is that the vehicle was retired from use [as per the last entry]. Dodge Caravans [especially with high miles] are prone to transmission issues. Since we don't know why it was retired, i suggest that you look very closely transmission and electrical issues. At last, make sure the price is favorable, otherwise walk and walk rather quickly. tedanne:Its very possible to get a 2002/03 Passat with spare engine or spare. As for the Acura, [2000 TL] it will land for about N1.6m delivered to your compound. Please be aware that since year 2010 is coming to an end, it will not be possible to send 2000 Acura to Lagos if not sent latest by Oct/early Nov. There is a 10year rule on vehicles that can be shipped to Lagos. Shipping company's will refuse to take it. I will probably not be doing any more dismantling this year anymore but we can help in shipping any vehicle that you want by itself. The spare engine and gear will wait until when next a container is coming. Regards. |

Jafour:25 cars can be dismantled and loaded. There will still be enough room for about 1 or 2 vehicle. As far as space goes, the container can hold up to 30 dismantled cars, but since there is a weight restriction, thats why you want to sandwich with 2 vehicles. Aks:[b]Its a good business. You are not necessarily required to be on ground. You only need someone knowledgeable, reliable and committed to handle the project. Something like this will take between 2-3months for the project to be finished. Even if you are on ground you will need a dealer or dismantler's license to be able to buy some of these cars. Not to forget that you will not acquire all 25 cars at the same time. There is a lot of driving up and down all the auctions. Coordinate the towing, labor, loading etc. So if you don't or haven't lived here and don't have anyone knowledgeable that can take out their time to put you through when you get here. Its difficult, if not impossible. As a matter of fact, if you are here, you will be responsible for 2 people (yourself and your guide) as opposed to one person if you let someone else handle it for you. Also, the person guiding you must be able to attend all these auctions while you are here. One good thing about dismantling is that you can sell the whole container within a week that it lands. Quick turnaround for your investment.[/b] |

okeymadu:Looking thru the report, i even discovered that there was an issue of potential mileage rollback shortly before the second owner acquired the car. The first owner put a lot of miles on it for 10 months. I am thinking that its probably leased. When you lease, most of the time you cannot exceed specified mileage as per the lease contract. So its not uncommon that people do that. While Montero is a very rugged vehicle (winner of Dakar Rally many many times) i will suggest that you look for another one. This particular one has too many question mark for me. If you its ok with you, i was able to locate AN EXTREMELY CLEAN, 1 OWNER 2003 Montero Limited thru the dealers' network. It has 96k miles and clean title. Like i mentioned, 1 owner for 7 years,2months (people don't keep a problematic car for that long). It will cost $14,000 to get to Naija (Buying, Transport and shipping). [size=14pt]YOU CLEAR[/size]. [Clearing is about N350k/less] As always, you can always post the VIN of any other one you find.
