So, emeka is right since the substitution should yield=>

If x*y = (x+y)xy

Then =>
(x*2) + (x*3) = 68
(x + 2)2x + (x + 3)3x = 68

Which should be 5x² + 13x - 68 = 0

Solving the quadratic expression should give you the values of x.

Frm yur equation......I got X as 4.2 or 3.2 as worked previously...........Binary operation sucks i'm telling u.

x*y=[x+2]2x, which gives, 2x^2+2x

[x+y]=[x*3],substituting y in d xpression we qat 3x^2+9x
2x^2+4x+3x^2+9x=68
5x^2+13x =68
dvd both side by 5
x^2+13x/5= 68/5
x^2+13x/5+169/100=68/5+169/100
(x+13/10)^2= 1529/100
x+13/10= squareroot1529/10 +d
pls i take the squareroot of 1529 as 39

x+13/10= =-+39/10
x= -13/10+39/10= 26/10
x= 2.6 or
x= -13/10-29/10
x= -42/10
:x = -4.2 or 2.6

Checking yur workings frm d start,please consider x*y=x*2 which equals x=x and y=2 ......substituting will be x*y=(x+2)2x which equals 2x sqaure +4x and if diving thru by 2 we'll get xsqaure+2x...ma opinion sir.Maybe u shuld re-check n repost

So, taking natural log of both sides yields =>

log{5^(11-3y)} = log{2^y}

Applying the law of log => (11-3y)log(5) = ylog(2)

Expanding the LHS => 11log(5) - 3ylog(5) = ylog(2)

Collecting like terms => 3ylog(5) + ylog(2) = 11log(5)

Factorizing (y) => y{3log5 + log(2)} = 11log(5)

y = 11log(5)/{3log5 + log(2)}

y = 11(1.61)/{3(1.61) + 0.69}

y = 17.71/(4.83 + 0.69)

y = 17.71/5.52

y = 3.21 approx




I don't quite get it, is * supposed to mean raised to power or what? Type out the question a little clearer...
