mathematician: no. 1 is quite simple -5*2= 3(-5)²+(-5/2) which equals 75-2.5= 72.5
2. a²+b²= (a-b)²-2ab, therefore the equation becomes (a-b)²-2ab=16, since 2ab=7, then the equation becomes (a-b)²=16-7=9, finding the squareroot of both sides (a-b)=3
